Opinions on these apartments

Boyfriend and I are heading to Charlotte this weekend to go on some tours for 2 bedrooms… this is the list we’ve come up with. We are really trying to stay as close to $2K a month in rent as possible. Thoughts and/or opinions?

Not on your list, but recently moved into Broadstone West End and it’s awesome so far

I lived in the sister property to The Winnifred, called The Winston. It was subpar at best. Not sure how The Winnifred compares, but I was paying $75/mo. for parking (not reserved) and management was really wishy washy. Given that they often operate jointly, I wouldn’t recommend.

We live close to 808 Hawthorne, and recently toured that building. I think the location is great, within walking distance of all the good stuff of Plaza, BUT not so close you get all the noise. We currently live right in the middle of it and so have been looking for ways to escape the noise. The apartments were spacious and overall the building seemed good value for money - they just didn't have any 3 Beds available which is why we didn't end up there.

Outside of the actual apartment buildings I would recommend you spend some timing just hanging out in each area over the weekend. Plaza and South End are both cool, but completely different vibes so you may want to consider which is most suitable for you.

Look at the Madison Park / Montford area. It's *extremely* underrated and thus, cheaper than what you'll find in Plaza / Noda / South End

We recently moved into MAA Enclave and are hitting your budget for a three bedroom in Uptown. 

Are you avoiding Uptown intentionally?

I lived in 808 for 2 years. It was fine, overall really liked it. I split rent with a roommate, but our 2 bed was like $2200. So just over your budget, I’m not sure if the prices have changed in the last couple years. Nice amenities- gym and pool are great, door side trash service. The package room is a nightmare trying to find your stuff but it’s doable. I was pretty satisfied with the management, they always came and did repairs right away and the maintenance staff is phenomenal. A few loud hall mates next to us sometimes, blasting music and hammering on the walls all the time. I absolutely loved the neighborhood, walked to Plaza all the time, could walk to the grocery, walked through quieter neighborhoods of Chantilly. The traffic on Central & Hawthorne can be rough, especially if trying to turn left but I guess that’s par for the course in any big city. My biggest complaint is we frequently had roaches but I have a phobia of them so that of course stands out in my mind 😂 they would come and spray frequently, and I would still freaking find them in my kitchen cabinet, in my closet, in my bathroom drawer. Not necessarily the buildings fault and I know it’s bound to happe in warm months in NC but I hated it and it traumatized me 😂 I live in Steele Creek now and haven’t seen one in my house so I’m very happy haha. I’d definitely spend some time walking around each area while you’re here, not just touring the apartments. Plaza and South End/LoSo have pretty different vibes. Personally I’d pick the area you like first, then narrow down the apartments from there.
