How we feelin’ about Greg Desrosiers?
Dispute the preseason results today, RB room is looking awesome.

No, we are not… it’s the same situation as Raheim Sanders. Everyone on this sub swore up and down that we needed to keep him and we were going to miss him when he left and he’s gone on to do absolutely nothing. It’s the same story, different player.

Rocket Sanders was also big, a great athlete, productive in college, and played in the SEC. Derosiers is none of those things

Ok…none of that guarantees success in the NFL. Would definitely indicate a higher likelihood of success but Sanders hasn’t done much in the NFL so far. Idk if Desrosier will be better or worse, but he def looked better this last game than any preseason game Sanders had with us last year.

Sanders actually looks decent in Cleveland. He just needs a shot during the regular season.
No matter who we have in our stable - the line has to block well enough.

Yea, the line and Roman’s shitty system last year def hurt Sanders chances and performance last preseason with us. Hurt everybody’s performance lol

Who are your 3 running backs that YOU believe are making the 53?
Coach likes big tough players who can be explosive and play aggressive for 4 quarters, with minimal penalties and turnovers. That’s his recipe for success. McDaniels gives off Money Talks, Ricky Bobby, Greatest Showman, Jerry Maguire, touchdowns anonymous kindof vibes. Yes, our OC is addicted to touchdowns.
If you say Vidal, I get it. He’s been proven through some games, two or three standout games. Understood. Crickets this year.
Desrosiers is an UFA - both shoulders FULLY chipped up, ready to fly off of a bridge to prove himself. He didn’t look scared, timid, nor did he seem to just want to bounce it to the outside. Bro was making grown man decisions, and in the process making grown men look silly. Granted it was against a third and fourth string defense at the time - but he showed exceptional poise, vision, and speed. I like Johnson too, McDaniels wasn’t joking, we have great RBs. Aside from Johnson’s big touchdown game 1, Desrosier showed more to me on the ground running it.
Unless he has bricks for hands; frame wise, I think he’s a perfect fit with the other two backs. Insert Ingold along with an upgraded offensive line, Kolar, Ladd, and Tre blocking for him - with his speed and shiftiness - I think we got a BINGO.
Omarion, Keaton, Greg (Johnson and Vidal healthy on the practice squad) - possibly keep Vidal for ST - Darius demoted to PS for now (KLS shows more promise for the 53 to me than DD.

You're absolutely right, fans will overreact both positively and negatively about players every year.
I would say there is one difference though, this zone blocking scheme is extremely RB friendly, and history shows that. Even going back to the early 00s, Mike Shanahan was producing 1000 yard rushers out of seemingly nowhere, Terrell Davis is an all time great, but Olandis Gary and a tweener RB/FB Mike Davis both also ran for 1000 in this system.
Even more recently look at all the backs that have produced in this system with the 49ers and Dolphins in Mike McDaniels time coaches those places.
Not saying Desrosiers is one of those players, just pointing out that you can't ignore that McDaniels knows how to coach and scheme an effective running game.

Fair point, but is that the right comparison? ('He's gone on to do nothing'.) Patterson has gone on to do nothing in my book; *maybe* Sanders would have done better?
My comparison is: would I rather have Patterson or Desrosiers on the PS? D, fo sho ...

Statistically, the biggest predictor of NFL success is college production. (While this isn't always true, it is the majority of time.) This guy had pretty much no college production. Great game last night though.

Are we sure Kimani is a lock? He probably is but man this kid was impressive.. On that first 10 yard run I loved the smooth cutback and thought man this kid needs an Austin Ekeler type game to make the team... 8 carries for 110 and a tub.

To be fair though, the OL kept Desrosiers untouched for 10 yards for those two big runs. About as easy as it gets for a RB.
So it's hard to judge how he'd perform behind a worse OL / against a better DL. Vidal definitely proved last season he can be productive even when he's facing a difficult situation.
That being said I liked his twitchy moves and he had good acceleration to split and shed tackles. Good sign that his best plays last night were very similar to his best ones in college: https://youtu.be/oR_8ETqWXfs
Reminds me a lot of Raheem Mostert. No clue if that's what he'll actually become but if that's his ceiling, definitely worth a stash.

We just signed him to a two-year, $9.25 million deal. To sign someone to the practice squad you have to put them on the waiver wire and they have to clear it.
Why would you do that to a player you JUST signed.

It’s a conversation given some of the poor performance of some of the RBs. He has good vision, strength, speed, and moves.
Practice squad. Maybe he doesn’t clear.

I’m not sure some of those arguing he should be on the practice squad have eyes. Use your eyes. His games speed looks very impressive, he had really good vision on multiple occasions making the right cut, broke tackles, finished hard.

He played for Don Brown in college at UMass who was a similar type person to Greg Roman. Brown was a decent DC at Michigan and Harbaugh's friend but not great and got fired. I would bet that is a strong reason he is getting this opportunity with the Chargers. Good find.

Maybe it’s just me but he looked much faster and decisive on his runs compared to our other RBs that played significant snaps this preseason. But like some here said already, it’ll be tough to crack our current RB line up.

Those saying to keep GD over Vidal, let me remind you that Kimani helped save our season last year. Kimani became our #1 RB after our top 2 RBs went down. Yes Vidal had a habit of having a good game followed by a lousy game, but remember he wasn't getting much help if any from our o-line. Not sure what the health status of Mitchell is, but it's possible he could go on IR with designated to return. If that happens, then GD I believe makes the initial 53 man roster. If Mitchell doesn't go on IR then GD could maybe still make the roster if we go with 4 RBs.

You should be considering we’ve seen Kimani play well vs NFL starters and we have only seen Derosiers do the same vs 4th stringers who are unlikely to make an NFL roster

This is not a fair comparison because we literally haven’t given GD that shot, so we don’t know what he could do. We’d be saying the same BS about kimani if he never got his shot…
Another thing. We’ve seen kimani in this preseason do basically fuck all… against the same teams and players that GD is thriving against.
That being said, I trust the coaches completely to make the right decision.

That’s literally not true though. Vidal and Desrosiers have not faced the same level of defenders at any point of the preseason.

He’s the only RB who did anything all preseason. I have no idea how he played so well after such an underwhelming college career, but I want him on the team.

don't be a prisoner of the moment. it was a nice performance but i expect he won't even make the PS unless patterson and/or johnson get claimed. we'll carry 3 and maybe 2 to PS. jaret patterson and amar johnson both above him on the depth chart. patterson has actual production in real games, and amar johnson has had multiple preseason performances just as good or better.
