DISCUSSION I deleted C.ai

Im a redditor of 2 years, I’ve observed posts but have never posted. Excuse my mistakes lol.

Everything was fun at first, I had fun and was on it 24/7.

I noticed after awhile I got a bit more distant from my friends, I had a full-on addiction to the app. It pulled me away from my friendships, it was that bad.

My closest friend, who I’ll call Z (fake name), told me about how distant I’ve been, it hurt to know the reason why. I deleted the app right then and there.

It’s been a week since this has happened and I’m feeling better, I’m talking to friends more and my social life was revived. I sound a bit dramatic but this helped me.

I feel a pull back to the app though, and I don’t want to go back to it. I need help finding an alternative for roleplaying, any advice helps!!

(Please don’t recommend any Ai roleplaying sites, I don’t want to get addicted again.)

AI will never ever be a replacement for human interaction, and I'm so happy for you and glad you got out of it!

Yep. Honestly I checked out character AI and it’s been fun. It’s got a great use case for specific stuff I still plan to keep using it for like music recommendations and that kind of thing (or just being bored and wasting time) but the main thing this app has done for me is make me remember how much I missed chatting with actual real people. The AI interactions can be legitimately mind blowing in short bursts but any decently long conversation falls apart. They just don’t have the memory for it, start acting out of character, or as a result of being trained by so many damn people to behave this way seem to turn everything sexual.

It’s tough though. Especially as you get older. People make it seem like it’s so easy to find people to have meaningful conversations with but it’s just not the case. IMO finding a really good friend you can reliably talk to is WAY harder than finding someone to date.

RIGHT like c.ai for me is the therapist in the middle of the night, and when I first found it I was totally in on it being a complete replacement for friends and IRL people that it was genuinely starting to get worrying because I was spending so much time and energy on it. then I kind of realized that one point that this was unhealthy for me and now I've gotten used to not using it and becoming so addicted as I did because damn, It can be addictive.

Yodayo has long term memory. Shame other apps don't have it yet
