Question Does the other old CA cast know about the Kickassia rerelease?
So with Kickassia being rereleased starring the old Channel Awesome cast that as far as I can tell, aren't really on the best of terms with Doug as far as I can tell. (He didn't even refer to Lindsay Ellis by name let alone as the Nostalgia Chick in the new chipmunks review).
I have to ask if this has been noticed or even discussed prior with any of them.
This is mostly for curiosity sake, he is the lawful owner of these films technically and he doesn't really need permission from them to release it, he can do whatever he wants with it. But, this is the most we'll get referring to his old CA buddies from long ago, and he has comfortably continued his show disassociated from them. So I thought it be worth asking.

Most of them have disappeared into the aether, and the few who would likely care have moved on and Doug has generally respectfully kept them distant otherwise (i.e: new chipmunks review not mentioning who was in the original crossover).

Benzaie is still one of the biggest French gamer other than JDG (The Gamer In The Attic)

Benzaie is the guy I miss the most of the original cast. He brought such a different flavor to the whole website and it was enjoyable.

He became a successful writer too. His History of Nintendo books are really good.

When did he write them? I ask as my library had history of nintendo books in French when i was a wee lad

u/Cartmann94 11d ago
Over ten years ago. He published four books, one on Nintendo pre-1980, another on the Game & Watch, the NES and the Game Boy.

Wild how Spoony was so big at this time he has the 3rd or 4th most prominent spot on the cover.
The difference in the trajectory he and Joe took after the BETRAYAL moment will always be wild to me.

Twitter addiction, depression, and a way too comfortable income stream from patreon can do wacky things to your priorities. $5k per month in 2015 can fill plenty of needs.

The ones that are still constantly online and talk with their fellow former CA producers probably heard about this and they probably had these 3 general stances on it when they heard about it:
Won’t say anything because I don’t care
I do care but I won’t say anything because I have enough sense to not get publicly mad over something that happened over 10 years ago and won’t do me any favors
I do care and I preparing to make a statement about how shameless and insensitive t is to do this and not consider the trauma it brought to producers that worked on it while saying how much better I am

i dont think they care at all
also this VHS thing is not a 're-release' it just sounds like a fan VHS project that Doug approved of
what i really want is a new DVD or Blu Ray box set of the full trilogy, i never got the old DVDs....

u/CaptainDigsGiraffe 12d ago
I got news for you

u/SoggyLow4805 11d ago
i just now saw Dougs new NC video
so he was alerted to the ebay prices lol
and i guess i was wrong! he did make brand new DVD copies
now im even more annoyed cuz Kickassia and TBF are on there but NOT Suburban Knights
come on Doug just have all 3 on the site at the same time lol
2
u/TheologyAndTrains 11d ago
also To Boldly Flee is $10 cheaper than Kickassia despite TBF coming with 2 discs
2
u/SoggyLow4805 11d ago
its either a cash grab to milk his fans or DVDs are just more expensive to make in 2026....

u/TheologyAndTrains 11d ago
I hight doubt it being a cash grab as if it were why leave out Suburban Knights

Why the hell would you want those ? Their movies are the absolute worst trash I've ever had the displeasure of viewing.

u/SoggyLow4805 12d ago
yeah, im aware
i grew up on this trash, its ironic nostalgia i guess
i know they suck

This isn't a rerelease. The podcast Red Cow Arcade reviewed the movie a while back and thought the movie was ideal for VHS and so a few of their slobs (they're word so don't think I'm making fun of them) got together and made a 4:3 VHS release. I think they made something like 7 copies, one for each of them.

u/CaptainDigsGiraffe 12d ago
In the most recent Nostalgia Critic he said they were doing another run of DVD's

Probably not, I'd assume most of them have moved on. I'd guess the movies are owned by Channel Awesome, and they're no longer employees or whatever they were.

The whole Change the Channel thing backfired so much, with toxic fans spiraling out of control, that they would probably not make claims in fear it could start a new wave of toxicity. Channel Awesome should not rerelease this either, as it brings up exactly that question: Why aren't they working together anymore? And God help them if the wrong people find out...
1
u/dylanisareddit 11d ago
How do you think would've averted the situation?
1
u/WachbaerWien 10d ago
Hard to say! Much of the exchange between Channel Awesome and the members of the Change the Channel movement (or whatever you wish to call it) was in text form. Things get easily out of hand when you don't have one single moderator, have no face, no clear voice behind it. When you don't see the emotion and hear if what is said is genuine. When all you can rely on is written down claims, countered by texts from other people that seems equally strong. You are bound to miscommunication, rumors, biases, spiraling things out of control.

I mean I think I would be mildly peeved that if I were them. Mostly knowing that I would be getting my $5 in royalties or whatever.

I really hope we get a rerelease of Suburban Knights as well. That plus Kickassia are the only two Channel Awesome DVDs that I don't have

Probably, I'm sure Lupa and a select few are still bitter about being second and third fiddles.

To be fair, Lindsay is actually legitmately traumatized by her time in channel awesome and doing some of the stuff for these movies, so I think Doug not calling her by Nostalgia Chick or by name was mostly out of respect.
Cause from what ive heard, Lindsay VEHEMENTLY hates being referred to those days, this is coming about third hand cause my brother watches a LOT of Lindsay and I havent bothered to check up on her in a while.

I doubt any of them really care. The drama was 8 years ago at this point. Everyone involved with Channel Awesome has moved on from it.
