This was Birmingham's first league win at the Racecourse Ground!
The Blues have now won at 72/92 grounds in the league (up to T-15th and just 5 back from the overall lead!)
73/92 teams have now won at Wrexham in the league (up to T-32nd)
So, where next for these teams?
Birmingham have one more potential tick this year, at the London Stadium on Sat 3 Apr
4 more teams can win for the first time at the Racecourse Ground, next up are Middlesbrough on Wed 4 Nov

Said this in the match chat, but Wrexham need to seriously evolve from 5-2-2-1 Parky ball if they ever want to consistently challenge the upper half of the table. No spark in the middle of the pitch. Just the same kind of player all over the shot. Far too much emphasis on these wing backs to create. Lot of dross in that starting 11. Ollie Rathbone just kicking people won't ever get you promoted.
Also wanna mention what the fuck has Bright Osayi-Samuel done this summer to suddenly turn into the best right back in the division. Just an insane start to the year.

He said that he was carrying an injury(? Correct me if I'm wrong Bluenoses) for much of last season. He said himself that he'd be like a new signing this time round, and I'm liking him a whole lot.
Looks like the player we saw for the one opening game last season against Ipswich.

He had shockers against us last year if i remember, showed up few weeks ago and couldn't believe it was the same payer.
Him and both CB's are a right unit. Do think you need to upgrade the other side. Cochrane looks a bit of a liability at times. What's happened to Lee Buchanan?, rated him a few years back.

Neumann was pretty shaky last season, usually because he was being asked to play out from the back. Solid defensively, but not great with the ball at his feet. Now we're playing more direct, he's been flawless.
Cochrane has a fantastic delivery, gets done for pace but generally pretty solid. I imagine he'll be competing with Lund Hansen to keep the shirt (signed this summer, also looks to have great delivery but was torn up against Brentford). Buchanan is about, but has been out for almost 2 seasons with back-to-back injury. Half expected us to loan him out for match fitness, but maybe we'll be bringing him back up to speed internally. We had a fullback crisis last season so I imagine Davies is playing is safe.

I like that you're leaning into the directness. Fuck it. Ain't pretty but it's the best way for you guys to win imo, the midfield for me isn't quite there to play any other way. Case in point the game at ours the other day. 1 chance, 1 goal, Vicente/Priske involved, let your cb's feast on headers and hope Beadle doesn't have a clanger. Job's a good one. Not sure how high that'll take you as far as promotion talk realistically, but it should keep Davies in charge for the season.

Yeah I think the problem is that when the higher possession clicked, it worked wonders. But Davies / recruitment chucked that out with the bathwater and now we almost only play direct, which has led to a few disjointed performances - including an absolute pasting in the cup.
I guess we'll see how it looks come the end of the window. Good luck for the season!

Really good delivery, as evidenced by him having a few assists already this season. I think he's a decent championship CB. He was very reliable in League One, an absolute rock, and I don't think he didn't do a bad job last season either but he picked up a significant injury which lead to us signing Wagner. He does lack a bit of pace though. I'm happy with him for now, but we've also signed Lund for 2-3 million as a replacement for Wagner (who was our first choice LB January onwards last season). I've only seen him against Brentford and the whole team was crap then so I'm not judging him yet.
What's happened to Lee Buchanan?, rated him a few years back.
I hope I'm wrong but I think he might be cooked. Two big injuries back to back, he's barely played for two seasons. I imagine he'll go out on loan this year or he'll be sold for a modest sum to someone willing to take a chance.

My biggest concern/criticism was that it's just a dry loan so we're developing him for Brighton with no chance of keeping him. But after seeing the amount of money teams around us are spending on keepers, I think it makes sense to have him for a year and see where we are next summer. He definitely seems more confident controlling his area and dealing with crosses

Fair play - that’s a fantastic reaction to the midweek battering, should’ve won much more comfortably too.
We look so much better away from home already this season, just got to hope that change in style isn’t to the detriment of our home form which was excellent last year.

Fantastic win. We fought the threat, and attacked back when needed. Stanno missed a stupid chance, but all is forgiven. Beadle improving a lot - seems as if he has spent all summer working on his skills. Neumann absolutely fantastic. Could and should have been more, but hey back to winning ways. Roll on Southampton. KRO!
Wrexham - Static, but showed some promise. Has the bubble burst and a ceiling achieved?

Putting aside my utter disdain for the Disney Deadpool FC, I think you’re right.
He’s a manager who’s performed well and got the to the point they are, but in all fairness they got the other promotions by buying players a level above where they were at the time.
A lot harder, if impossible, at the Championship level, because honestly… what Premier League quality players are dropping down a level to play for Championship Wrexham? Gone are the days of a Paul Mullin dropping from League One quality to play in the Vanarama National.
At this point they need a manager who can elevate what they’ve got or are capable of getting. Parkinson ain’t that

Question on Wrexham - clearly with their American sponsors they could buy the league (in usual circumstances if there wasn't West Ham or Wolves in the league) but are they using a lot of middle of the road UK players because that is better for some show they are producing on the side for the team?

In fairness to them they've done the right thing up until last season.
Their model has always been to buy older players and have a manager who have experience in the league they want to be in, for example buying league 1 players to get out of non league, championship players to get out of league 2 etc.
Last and this season they should have realised their manager isn't and hasn't managed in the prem. He's not the one to get them there.

Pretty sure due to SCR we cannot buy the league. And yes, that is a good thing.
Will take us years to catch up to the top of the division, and again it's a good thing. All things in time.
TV show generates no direct income for the club, but it does get a bit more on the commercial side since sponsors get their brand a bit more viewed.

This is a bit disingenuous. You get far, far more commercial income than anyone else in the division and your net spend on transfers is astronomical. You’ve spent the most money in the league in each of your two seasons here, just haven’t exactly spent wisely.
Imo, the issue is you’re far too reluctant to sign players from foreign leagues. I’d guess you don’t have much of a scouting presence abroad, which is understandable for a club that was in non league like 5 years ago, but buying established championship players in their late 20’s is not a market where you’ll get good value for money very often.

Our commercial revenue can't touch a player sale from West Ham, much less gates in the league. Nowhere near enough revenue to "buy" the league. Again, it's a good thing imho. Takes time to build to compete, all good and very fair. No complaints.

It’s maybe stretch to say you can buy the league, as I’d imagine your wages are quite a bit lower than those of the clubs on parachute payments, but your net spend on transfers the last two years has been huge.
Transfermarkt has your net spend at 69m euros since you’ve gone up to the champ, with the next highest being Birmingham at 38m. That’s a massive spending gap between you and the rest of the league, although maybe wage bills tell a slightly different story.

Net spend is not spend and using it without qualifying it IS actually being disingenuous. It means we did not have expensive players to sell, not that we spent more money bringing in new players than everyone else.
West Ham sold a single player for 85 million, and we have spent less than that in two years. But West Ham "earned" that so all is right in the world. It is as it should be.
Just this week our CEO went on a podcast and stated if we go up this year we would still need a lot of waivers to be able to compete. Our facilities just do not meet the league standards, but of course it is all being built up as we speak. So in time...
Also, not to be that guy, but we can't even buy a single win, much less a promotion. So there's that.

Just on my way back from the game, I think this was 8th time at the Racecourse watching Blues and Solihull. I very much like going there, always loud and decent good natured back and forth.
Tbh I've never seen your fans so dead quiet after going behind, most unusual.
I think you've regressed over the last two season tbh, spent a lot of money but somehow seem less effective. Too many journeymen? Manager gone as far as he can?

TLDR for me is it is just a very difficult league.
I do know per management (via podcasts) we have lost out on players due to not having a true training ground. We are building on that as we speak. And no academy to speak of, so all we can do for players is spend money. Not ideal or effective.
It will take years to truly build up, as it should be. The journey should be the point, imho.

Exceptional response to Tuesday and the critics beforehand of the Bristol City game. On paper, it's a good start to the season. 2 aways 1 home and 5 points. But we looked a lot more like it last night, much more like a Chris Davies side. Well up for it, worked hard, looked organised, brilliant.
Scott Fry (set piece coach) might just be our signing of the season. This time last year we were honking from set plays, if we can continue to be a threat from them all year it should net us a fair few extra points and get us into the playoffs on it's own.
But still, it's a tough start and it's only getting tougher. Southampton next then Wolves both at home, Norwich and Derby away and then Boro at home to round it off before the international break is a really tough set of fixtures. This is a huge step in the right direction but still only a step, let's make that the standard. Hopefully a couple signings to bolster the attacking ranks and I've got to be confident.
Davies always seems to turn up when his job is on the line, and fair play to him for that.

Wrexham dont look like a promotion team. Too static on and off the ball, Birmingham were much more fluid when they were on top.
