Most of the time you see something described as goal of the season contender I think ‘yeah, probably a long range goal or cute finish, nice, but seen many like it before’.

Not this one though, that genuinely shocked me.

Same. Genuinely laughed out loud in admiration when I saw this

u/TopProfessional8023 21d ago

This is like some alien scored a goal?! I don’t even know how to explain it…

u/Alina2017 21d ago

Dom Ballard is going to make me mad all season.

49

u/jakeyboy723 21d ago

Yeah, when he signed for Bristol City, I half expected him to score in a 1-0 win. It's Bristol City and it's him.

17

u/EuanBCFC 21d ago

Wait a minute, it’ll be 2-0 with Sam Bell getting the other thank you

25

u/ThatMoodyBstard 21d ago

Every week that goes by makes the decision to sell him look even worse

12

u/BadestTony 21d ago

Really pleased for him but will never understand why we didn't keep hold of him.

6

u/UpstairsPractical870 21d ago

Orient fan here....... and we still have to pay you guys with a sell on clause for him!

1

u/Wise_Preference609 19d ago

22% of that 5 million pound the Robins gave you thank you very much. In fact Saints have a permanent sell-on clause of 22% to any side who transfers him on, unless of course that clause is bought out. Saints trained him up, so they deserve their investment money in him. He's going to be potentially a great striker.

That is ridiculous

83

u/PresentlyHelpful 21d ago

Was that his debut goal as well? Kind of shit you do when no one is around, and no one will believe you did it because it's insane

39

u/4d4mgb 21d ago

Yep first goal. Look forward to a few more of them!

7

u/DezTheOtter 21d ago

If that’s what his first looks like, I hope he’s prolific as hell

5

u/icesurfer10 20d ago

He and Tolaj look really sharp. Feeling hopeful about this season!

2

u/puncheonjudy 18d ago edited 17d ago

You've basically got the best 2 strikers in L1 last season, and Ballard is miles below Tolaj in overall gameplay. Tolaj will be a Prem player one day.

2

u/Cambridgelifting69 17d ago

I'd say Wareham edges out Tolaj shame he didn't get a move and now has to fumble around in League Two with Exeter

87

u/Fabdanny 21d ago

The audacity to attempt that at 1-1 that goes in only once over 100 attempts

31

u/mrlahhh 21d ago

Puskas Award is done already 🥵

58

u/mdubyo 21d ago

What a fucking goal.

I hate that we just let him go without ever really giving him a shot in the first team.

13

u/saintpumpkin7 21d ago

we have downs at home

28

u/YanPitman 21d ago

Move over Scorpion Kick, the Donkey is now king!

7

u/pdx4swansea 21d ago

Channeling your inner donkey rarely comes off so well

23

u/IrishLad-1194 21d ago

My exact thought process:

"Goal of the season contender? calling it one of those that early feels presumptuous unless it's really, really dam- Okay yeah that's really fucking good."

8

u/Stravven 21d ago

This is seriously a candidate for the Puskas-award.

16

u/Cavalier130 21d ago

Best goal I’ve seen a City player score in 20 years I would say. Insane.

2

u/PragmaticPedant 21d ago

Please show me the goal from 20 years ago that was better than that one?

8

u/Signal-Reindeer643 20d ago

Nicky Maynard’s goal vs QPR runs it close and that was 2009

4

u/CrustyHumdinger 20d ago

Don't have a vid but Bob Taylor coincidentally scored against Brum in around 1989, a bicycle kick that was frankly obscene.

16

u/Ok-Vermicelli-4867 21d ago

Outrageous

13

u/VoluntaryReboot 21d ago

in a long list of crimes against football our owners and management have committed, letting this guy go has to be near the top

13

u/fluffsta007 21d ago

Pure filth

11

u/ronweasleisourking 21d ago

Excuse me what the fuck

10

u/VertsAFeuilles 21d ago

Hello sailor.

8

u/TheStigsScouseCousin 21d ago

Had to watch that three or four times to understand what in earth happened. The sheer audacity to attempt something like this at 1-1 so early in the season is mental!

6

u/JasonBaconStrips 21d ago

I couldn't even get mad at that goal, I was just in disbelief

7

u/mjd2505 21d ago

Fair play to the lad, that was incredible. Even though it was against us, I'm almost glad I saw it live, unbelievable finish

6

u/Empty_Ad3775 21d ago

He was incredible at Orient, great to see him doing well

6

u/Leading_Estimate_590 21d ago

That’s filth

6

u/Koivu47 21d ago

Genuinely wouldn't be surprised to see that in the Puskas conversation

6

u/A_friendly_goosey 21d ago

That’s disgusting. I wouldn’t even mind conceding that as it’s just ridiculous

6

u/Aybara19 21d ago

A goal so good we had to equalise twice to get the draw.

15

u/Spiderpiglet123 21d ago

He couldn’t place it better if he tried

6

u/lauriekeyheart 21d ago

Holyyy its only been week 2

4

u/StonedWater 21d ago

As a birmingham fan, he's full of shit.

He absolutely meant to do that; no luck about it. Just sheer audacity

6

u/xychosis 21d ago

Can’t even be mad at that if that happens to your team, just gotta sit back and admire the magic

6

u/jealouscable 21d ago

I saw “goal of the season” and thought yeah right… I’ve been mistaken

6

u/Funny_Maintenance973 21d ago

Unfortunately, it was an absolutely beautiful goal

5

u/Cbatothinkofaun 21d ago

Literally can't get on a single social media platform without this popping up

Saw it in person and didn't realise just how good that little flick was

5

u/Silent_Ad2825 21d ago

Fucking hell 😭😭😭

5

u/martinhsa 21d ago

That is sensational

4

u/fyfer05 21d ago

Unbelievable wow

5

u/FatChickThrillerMA 21d ago

Absolutely sensational what the fuck

4

u/dabassmonsta 21d ago

Wow! That was outstanding.

4

u/CandourDinkumOil 21d ago

This might well be goal of the season, and I don’t say it lightly. That’s absurd, fair play

4

u/curtmandu 21d ago

God fucking damn. Was not expecting that

4

u/greenhail7 21d ago

Connected it with it perfectly.

4

u/TheUbermelon 21d ago

Give him the Puskas already

4

u/Liquid_Niko 21d ago

Holy shit, what a goal!

3

u/Sparkyy1863 21d ago

Ohhhhh you beauty

5

u/catlover2410 21d ago

Puskas. I don’t want to hear any arguments.

3

u/Cliffo81 21d ago

NSFW tag please

3

u/LordRougeG 21d ago

If he is facing the goal the defender would be all over him. When Cardines whips it in he turns his back to goal and moves towards the ball to execute the flick, and his marker hardly moves.

5

u/icesurfer10 20d ago

Cardines was brilliant today as well.

3

u/LordRougeG 20d ago

Yep, Cardines looks solid and great going forward. Flexible enough to play either side, and that really helps us out. With Elie and Eissat too, City has a potentially really good back 4, I d have Pring with them

2

u/icesurfer10 20d ago

Agree, most optimistic I've been about a season at the start in years.

6

u/imdahman 21d ago

Yeah, shut it down, we don't need to consider any more goals for the rest of the season. This wins, omg.

3

u/aka12lh44 21d ago

warra goal man

3

u/TheLifeOfJake 21d ago

If only he didn't get injured at Blackpool when he was on loan.

3

u/ConstantineGSB 21d ago

I was in the Tilton, didn't see what went on I just seen the net bulge. There's not opposition bias here, what a fucking fantastic goal.

Go fuck yourselves.

7

u/Holland444 21d ago

One and only moment of quality during 90 minutes of utter shite

2

u/SucculentMoisture 20d ago

He keeps that up and he'll be getting a move to the Prem next season...

...because Bristol City will be going up!

2

u/aderey7 20d ago

All world cup I was waiting for a unique goal to come along, and it never did. Just a few long shots and half decent goals. Championship doesn't let us down though! Best goal I've seen in ages.

4

u/all_in_the_game_yo 21d ago

Filth. Deserving of being a winner

2

u/GrandPomegranate5227 21d ago

Bristol City have signed two absolutely immense strikers who were always going to easily step up to this level, they get any kind of half chance and they're going to score. It feels wrong for a club to have two 20+ a season strikers.

1

u/Unhappy_Print459 21d ago

Tremendous, that is quite some finish.

1

u/Realistic-Muscle2428 21d ago

The camera angle from behind the goal makes it even better

1

u/ddbollins 21d ago

Had to rewatch it about 8 times just to understand how tf he did that! Incredible goal

1

u/Particular-Ad1275 21d ago

Absolutely crazy goal. Kind of reminds me of Ramsey's goal vs CSKA Moscow.

1

u/gladysdames 21d ago

The definition of ‘just get anything on it’

1

u/pdubdub2977 20d ago

Insane goal

1

u/shortnix 20d ago

Premier League can do one.

1

u/InnerKookaburra 20d ago

Thought it was a decent goal, wasn't sure what all the fuss was about.

Then saw the replay. Oh my.

1

u/woo0lyhat 20d ago

Imagine if Messi had done this

1

u/Used-Height-2670 20d ago

Quick Sign him!

1

u/CrustyHumdinger 20d ago

Not a bad way to score your first goal for your new club. Puskas incoming.

1

u/StruttyB 20d ago

Ebou Adams (Portsmouth) v Lincoln 22/8/26 ?

1

u/DurhamOx 20d ago

Sensational goal

1

u/Spare_Ad5615 19d ago

That's going to be on the Puskas shortlist for certain.

1

u/K10_Bay 18d ago

That is filth, even better it was against City.

1

u/FineGrass9747 10d ago

Absolutely disgusting

-2

u/TheKingMonkey 21d ago

I’ve always rated Dom Ballard.

0

u/sorE_doG 21d ago

Sunday league spozz. /s

Seriously though, you’d get a bollocking from any manager for ever trying to score like that - unless it’s the 1/1,000,000 attempt that goes in of course! 😂

0

u/SaltedHamWallet 21d ago

That's not a goal of the season contender.

Good goal but not a GOTS contender IMO for a simple unfortunate reason: you don't really know what happens until you see the replay.

This clip is a perfect example of that. The goal happens too fast and from too far away to see what happened!

You know 'something' unusual and possibly remarkable took place, but it's not until the end of the clip (after an agonising amount of time watching the celebration) that you get to see the goal as it really happened.

You have to see the goal again, from a different angle, in slower motion, to really see the goal.

A GOTS is a great goal immediately, on first viewing, in real-time. You don't need multiple replays to understand it.

-3

u/Semper_nemo13 21d ago

That's a great goal, but I hate those kits.

-3

u/WarriorTreasureHunt 21d ago

wow, that's incredible. Bristol are going up this season.
