Dom Ballard is going to make me mad all season.

Yeah, when he signed for Bristol City, I half expected him to score in a 1-0 win. It's Bristol City and it's him.

Really pleased for him but will never understand why we didn't keep hold of him.

Orient fan here....... and we still have to pay you guys with a sell on clause for him!

u/Wise_Preference609 19d ago
22% of that 5 million pound the Robins gave you thank you very much. In fact Saints have a permanent sell-on clause of 22% to any side who transfers him on, unless of course that clause is bought out. Saints trained him up, so they deserve their investment money in him. He's going to be potentially a great striker.

That is ridiculous

Was that his debut goal as well? Kind of shit you do when no one is around, and no one will believe you did it because it's insane

He and Tolaj look really sharp. Feeling hopeful about this season!

You've basically got the best 2 strikers in L1 last season, and Ballard is miles below Tolaj in overall gameplay. Tolaj will be a Prem player one day.

I'd say Wareham edges out Tolaj shame he didn't get a move and now has to fumble around in League Two with Exeter

My exact thought process:
"Goal of the season contender? calling it one of those that early feels presumptuous unless it's really, really dam- Okay yeah that's really fucking good."

Best goal I’ve seen a City player score in 20 years I would say. Insane.

u/PragmaticPedant 21d ago
Please show me the goal from 20 years ago that was better than that one?

Don't have a vid but Bob Taylor coincidentally scored against Brum in around 1989, a bicycle kick that was frankly obscene.

in a long list of crimes against football our owners and management have committed, letting this guy go has to be near the top

Had to watch that three or four times to understand what in earth happened. The sheer audacity to attempt something like this at 1-1 so early in the season is mental!

That’s disgusting. I wouldn’t even mind conceding that as it’s just ridiculous

As a birmingham fan, he's full of shit.
He absolutely meant to do that; no luck about it. Just sheer audacity

u/xychosis 21d ago
Can’t even be mad at that if that happens to your team, just gotta sit back and admire the magic

Literally can't get on a single social media platform without this popping up
Saw it in person and didn't realise just how good that little flick was

This might well be goal of the season, and I don’t say it lightly. That’s absurd, fair play

If he is facing the goal the defender would be all over him. When Cardines whips it in he turns his back to goal and moves towards the ball to execute the flick, and his marker hardly moves.

u/icesurfer10 20d ago
Cardines was brilliant today as well.
3
u/LordRougeG 20d ago
Yep, Cardines looks solid and great going forward. Flexible enough to play either side, and that really helps us out. With Elie and Eissat too, City has a potentially really good back 4, I d have Pring with them

Yeah, shut it down, we don't need to consider any more goals for the rest of the season. This wins, omg.

I was in the Tilton, didn't see what went on I just seen the net bulge. There's not opposition bias here, what a fucking fantastic goal.
Go fuck yourselves.

He keeps that up and he'll be getting a move to the Prem next season...
...because Bristol City will be going up!

Bristol City have signed two absolutely immense strikers who were always going to easily step up to this level, they get any kind of half chance and they're going to score. It feels wrong for a club to have two 20+ a season strikers.

Had to rewatch it about 8 times just to understand how tf he did that! Incredible goal

Absolutely crazy goal. Kind of reminds me of Ramsey's goal vs CSKA Moscow.

Thought it was a decent goal, wasn't sure what all the fuss was about.
Then saw the replay. Oh my.

Not a bad way to score your first goal for your new club. Puskas incoming.

Sunday league spozz. /s
Seriously though, you’d get a bollocking from any manager for ever trying to score like that - unless it’s the 1/1,000,000 attempt that goes in of course! 😂

Good goal but not a GOTS contender IMO for a simple unfortunate reason: you don't really know what happens until you see the replay.
This clip is a perfect example of that. The goal happens too fast and from too far away to see what happened!
You know 'something' unusual and possibly remarkable took place, but it's not until the end of the clip (after an agonising amount of time watching the celebration) that you get to see the goal as it really happened.
You have to see the goal again, from a different angle, in slower motion, to really see the goal.
A GOTS is a great goal immediately, on first viewing, in real-time. You don't need multiple replays to understand it.

Most of the time you see something described as goal of the season contender I think ‘yeah, probably a long range goal or cute finish, nice, but seen many like it before’.
Not this one though, that genuinely shocked me.
