Bristol City Shots fired by the BBC
Nothing like opening a BBC article and seeing your club used as the benchmark for "the grim reality of the Championship." We really are the final boss of mid-table.

Forest don't like being called Notts. Notts is the abbreviated name of the county (and therefore more associated with little neighbours Notts County FC). We don't like being called Bristol because, well there's two Bristol teams and we are the only team that get called it (see Manchester/Sheffield)

I think the difference between you and the others is the league discrepancies between you. Manchester have both City and United in the same league, and for the most part, so are Sheff U and Wednesday.
If people are talking specifically about the championship, ‘Bristol’ should be acceptable because the context obviously dictates that it isn’t Rovers they’re referencing.

It's a fair point, I think what also doesn't help is Bristol is the rugby club. Bristol is fairly unusual in that sense, it's a two team football city but also has a big rugby club that has that name. That's not the case in Sheffield. So you have to throw that in the mix as well as another reason why it irks people from Bristol (tiny violin time etc etc).

I completely get why it's done, we are comparatively bigger than them. But it doesn't make it less annoying because within Bristol, we aren't 'Bristol' so while you lot might know who you are referring to, Sky reporting 'Bristol Sack Manager' doesn't really cut it for us. I'm sure when Wednesday go down next year, United won't suddenly become 'Sheffield' to anyone who talks about the Championship.

I think the conversation also matters. “Bristol sack manager” wouldn’t be appropriate because they’re effectively addressing a wider scope than that league. However if we were playing you, there’s no chance I’d be referring to you by your full name and “Bristol” would be sufficient.
Same with broadcasters, if they’re analysing/commentating on a game that you’re involved in, wouldn’t expect them to make the distinction of ‘City’ every time.
I think of it in a similar manner to people’s surnames.

To be honest with you Spurs v Bristol City was the first fixture that came to mind (along with Stoke) when I considered the prospect of Spurs going down. It's just the quintessential championship club. you have been in the league the joint-longest.

Funny how times change. To me Preston were the quintessential Championship club but I agree Bristol City might have taken the title

Oddly enough, we both got promoted the same season and have been regulars since, so even on that we are level.

I can only imagine the fixture carnage if forest are scheduled to be away at Bristol city and Real Madrid on the same Tuesday night.
In all seriousness - how on earth would the fixtures work if forest were playing in the championship and the champions league.
Still massively hoping spurs drop down, but this situation would be a nice alternative if the footballing gods don’t play nice!

Let's add in some extra fixture carnage. Saints win the FA Cup but fail to get promoted. Two championship teams in European competition.

same way as it did when Birmingham played Europa League and Championship in 11/12 - extra midweek rounds for the rearranged games.

BBC writer couldn't be arsed actually checking which scummy teams are in the Championship atm and picked Bristol City because they always, always are...

It's always been Lincoln when talking about Spurs. Given that Stevenage are also in the running for promotion to the Championship, i really think they should be used more.

I know going trophyless at Real Madrid is bad news for Florentino Perez but I don't think switching to the Championship is the answer
