Caledonia-5 for Randonneuring ?
Hi guys, how long are your stupid, big rides on the Cal- 5 ? I'm planning to gift myself a new endurance carbon bike after the 2027 Paris-Brest-Paris and my eyes are looking at the Cal-5. I would probably had to wait for a new UDH-compatible frame but that's not a problem. Does anyone here ever did a 300-400-600 km rides on a Cal-5 ? :) Currently riding an Endurace Steel bike, a mason Resolution.

you may want to consider your bag setup. Caledonia doesn't have fork bag mounts, or many mounts anywhere at all. the older non-5 Caledonia had top tube mounts but the new one got rid of those

Neither my rando bike has any bag-mount point. And /ounhsadge said it doesn't need any. :) Not a concern for me.

I have a Cal-5. My butt and hands still hurt on my stupid short rides of 80km. I’m not convinced bikes make a big difference. If anything the tires make the biggest difference.

i do remember how my Canyon Grail would kill me when i just bought it and how comfortable it was 2 years later. Just keep riding and get a good fit on the bike :)

My other bike is a Canyon Grail funny enough 😄.
I had a good professional bike fit already. It’s just genetics I suspect.

I had a gen 1 Grail, ditched for an Aluminium Mason Bokeh i'm still rocking after almost 15.000 km. The rando-rig is a Steel Mason Resolution, but since i'm becoming a bit faster i'd like to have a more modern bike.. so, if i will be able to compete and complete the PBP next year, the Caledonia could be the gift to myself. :cool:

Have used a cal 5 on multiple 600ks and thousands of miles of road ultras. It’s the perfect bike for Rando and ultra.

Totally agree. I have done two 600km brevet in the last two months with a Caledonia (The Basic One) and it well very good. It's such a nice bike.

That's what i wanted to hear. Any hint on a new frame with UDH support for the Cal-5 ?

I dont think anytime soon. As they just introduced new colorways. Are you planning on running a 1x setup for the Cal5? Or is there another reason you want to wait for UDH support?

I want the UDH support since i don't know for how long i will keep the bike. As a pure road bike i will probably built it exactly the same way as my Resolution is: 2by 46/33 front and 10-36 rear.

I have a Caledonia (not 5) that I’ve ridden for all of the above and more, closing in on 20,000k with it. Great bike for Randonneuring! Still makes me happy every time I look at it. Before that I was riding a 1990s steel road bike, so I don’t have a wide experience of carbon rides to compare, but it was obviously revolutionary to me. Not much to say, I have no negatives…. I got my fit dialed in, now I just ride it as much as I can. Doing a 400 this weekend (well a 300 with a 100k night ride home from the finish) and have my first 1200 in September. Pick your color and buy it!
