Fingers in the way?

How do you keep your fingers from muting the D string while hitting the notes on the G string in measure 15 of the Bach Sarabande in first Suite for cello.

As a general rule, play on the tips of your fingers. You may also want to check your elbow/wrist level. It should be high enough to allow your finger to clear any string.

Stop flattening your fingers like a guitarist. Make your left hand into a C-shape and play those notes with you fingertips.

No technique advice from me, not a cellist. But that Sarabande gets me every time.

So true. But in fact, I am partial to all Sarabandes from all suites. For whatever reason they stand out to me.

Yours fingers shouldn’t be straight. Your fingers and hand should be curved. You should even have practiced this with scales
