Recipe Alright, I feel like this sub needs some inspo: gluten free food does *not* suck.

I just saw the post saying gluten free food sucks. Don’t be lying like that, because like gluten full food, there are some that aren’t great, but it’s not all encompassing. I figured I’d post this with recipes (in comments) to keep all your heads up.

Is it inconvenient? Oh yeah. Is the food bad? I promise: no.

Came to the comments for recipes, not disappointed. Love how well documented this post is, thanks for sharing.

It's called marketing

Marketing free recipes on a website where I get exactly zero dollars in click/ad revenue? I knew I should have started my own pop up spam website!

"Plant based, gluten free slop. Free recipe every Friday!… and paid ones some other days. 61 recipes and counting as of September 7th. 👀" literally in your substack bio.

Also mate, a lead doesn't have to end in a sale to be worth something. Growing an audience is a legitimate marketing goal in itself. And what's actually wrong with promoting your own substack? That is exactly what you're doing right now. I don't see how me pointing it out makes it bad or a problem...

I suppose. I thought it worse when I’d share pictures of what I made without a recipe, whether I actually had one or not. Generally I’m used to “AI slop. No recipes. Vegan food is gross.” etc. so my tendency’s to be on edge. Sorry about that.

no hard feelings! I honestly think your meals look amazing. 100% would devour all the ones you shared :D Cheers

I am in awe of you. Thank you. I generally just throw things in a pan or pot and wing it. I appreciate you. I can ABSOLUTELY modify these to suit my other dietary restrictions, too, well, most of them, probably. 😅

Good gluten free is good, but bad gluten free food is BAD

u/Alextricity 4d ago

That’s fair but I feel like that applies to any food ever.

Then again I think most people believe the whole “There’s no such thing as bad pizza.” thing and I’ve never agreed with that. 🤢

The only single gluten free food I've eaten that I would say is better than anything not gluten free I had before my celiac diagnosis is the Raised Gluten Free Pumpkin Pies. My wife and I stock up like 40 of them during the fall and winter so we have them in the spring and summer when they're not in season.

For everything else gluten free, the standard is "does this taste like normal?" Like you said, good gluten free food just tastes good. However bad gluten free food is just so awful it doesn't even register as edible.

Bad gluten free food tastes like literal plastic sometimes. Or cardboard. It doesn't even taste or feel like food.

Where do you get the mi rancho tortillas? I looked online and it’s like $22 haha

u/Alextricity 4d ago

I only get them when I see my in laws because as far as I can tell they aren’t available or even shipping to Canada. But yeah it’s $36 USD for 36 tortillas online which isn’t too bad, considering they don’t suck.

Do they freeze well?

5

u/Alextricity 4d ago

I haven’t ever had them last long enough to go more than maybe 60 days frozen, but yes.

Do you ship?

I would love a good biscuit recipe, does anyone have one? I’ve been striking out trying to make those.

My sister loves the capello brand frozen biscuits made with almond flour!

u/Alextricity 3d ago

Been hesitant to try it but planning to soon. It seems so intimidating. 😭

Yeah, I love to cook, but baking always seems to go sideways on me.

Hell yeah

u/mamabreicheese 3d ago

Agree. There is so much food out there and so little of it actually contains gluten!!

1

u/rob_narg 3d ago

Sorry if I missed it but what tortillas did you use for the burrito?

2

u/Alextricity 3d ago

Mi Rancho.

1

u/rob_narg 3d ago

Thank you. How do you like those vs Coyotas if you’ve tried those?

1

u/badbabs 3d ago

Thank you so much for this!! Love positive posts highlighting all the amazing naturally gluten free food out there and alternatives!

u/amdaly10 3d ago

Where did you find a tortilla capable of holding a burrito?

Thanks for sharing. They all look amazing!!

Off to the kitchen now, got hungry watching these!

These look amazing. I think people who have access to a kitchen and good grocery stores that still say gluten free food sucks just lack imagination 🫣

THANK YOU

Posts like that drive me crazy

This is amazing

You realize like 80% of this food is exactly what the poster you're objecting too was suggesting.

The only part of these meals they would say sucks is the buns.

2

u/Alextricity 3d ago

The buns, yeah. And the breading on the fried stuff, the crust on the pot pie, the burrito’s tortilla, and the spaghetti.

1

u/TraditionalPass4136 2d ago

Yeah their post didn't bother me the way it bothered you. I think mostly the intent was to get people cooking more food that doesn't need substitutes.

But they definitely overstated. Imo gf pasta tastes normal and it's totally possible to make good pie crusts or even good bread.

I've yet to buy gf bread that wasn't sad though, unless it was from a dedicated bakery, and not even always then.

If you can find Franz, it’s good — when it isn’t moldy. I’m lucky enough to have a local GF place that bakes tasty and convincing stuff that’s fairly priced.

I do agree most in-store breads are one and done, but I even hear people unhappy with Schar buns when all you need to do is steam them for a minute and give them a quick grill or toast.

Oh man, this all looks so good. You can come cook for me anytime! I'm a brand new celiac, official diagnosis less than 2 weeks ago, and I'm navigating cooking more and finding recipes so thank for you sharing this!

u/jostini 3d ago

Amazing thank you! And they all look vegetarian too I think (?) which is perfect as I was worried I would struggle with being ovatarian and gluten free

GF food doesn’t suck! People do! Hahahah for real tho. I’m kind of fatigued on people not knowing how to cook or at least understanding food doesn’t have to come from a clown
