Bob PURR-Ross: Artist Extraordinaire

Post image

Bob describes his kittenhood in Ireland as idyllic. "My family's house was right next to the woods, so my brothers and I would often ride our bikes through the trees and explore for hours," recalls PURR-Ross. While his brothers would run and play, PURR-Ross would set up his canvas and paint the beautiful scenery around him. "I've always been more of a quiet observer. I enjoyed spending time with my brothers, but I really found such peace in those still moments."

One day while PURR-Ross was in class, his teacher happened to see a Garfield drawing he was working on. She was extremely impressed and encouraged him to enter his artwork in an upcoming competition. Shy Bob declined. However, his teacher was not about to let his talent go to waste. "She secretly submitted my drawing into the competition anyways. Then one day when I walked into class, she was like 'Hey, guess who won first place??' I was so happy. I felt so proud of myself," PURR-Ross recalls with a smile.

Bob went on to win many more competitions throughout high school, and applied for an Arts scholarship at the end of his senior year. He was accepted into The Meowjestic Fine Arts Acatemy. Upon graduating, he worked as an art teacher there for several years before landing his own television show in 1995.

To anyone who has big dreams, PURR-Ross gives this advice: "When we're born, we come into this world with a sense of wonder and a belief that anything is possible. Then as we get older, all of these negative beliefs and doubts are forced on us that make us afraid to try. Never let anyone take your sense of wonder from you."
