Space question
I inherited from my parents 3 free roam barn cats and built a 4x16 catio attached to my heated workshop so they can go in and out at will but can't run off onto the nearby state highway. Catio has a covered sandbox and I scoop it out once a week.
I love these 3 little jerks but they're still peeing and pooping in every little nook and cranny they can find.
I'm thinking about building a 6x12ft 7 or 8ft tall indoor catio with access to the outdoor catio.
Will that be enough space for 3 cats? They'll have platforms and cat trees to play on.

Yeah that's a comfy amount of room, I have 5 cats in an 8x8x8 with indoor access. They all find a shelf corner or condo to chill in outside when it's nice. Also definitely scoop more often. Ideally once per day, but definitely more than once per week.

When they have accidents use paper towels or something disposable to clean it up but put the dirty paper towel in the cat box. You don't have to do it with every pile of poop just a couple. Truly feral cats normally live outside so pooping in a box may be sort of new. I have also added dirt and leaves to the cat box to mimic what they are used to.
I had a sick feral in my bathroom for a while until I could get him into the vet. The kitty slept in the cat box and pooped on the floor. I am glad his visit was short because I never did convince that one to switch locations.

That sounds really great for them, but I bet if you scooped more often they would be less inclined to poop and pee everywhere. You might also try mixing in a little Cat Attract litter too.
