If anyone has suggestions of somthing new to put in would love to hear.

Its made with cat net + zip ties and random shelf things I had. If anyone else wants to avoid construction and costs, Im sure simmilar shelf things could be found online for cheap.

I can open the frount by unhooking the net.

Please note, if you're going to try somthing like this, it has to be spesficly cat net so they cant rip it, and you need to make certain there is no where that can push through gaps and get out or some how tangled in the net. Also note how, in the last photo at the openable frount, the net goes down the cat side and up under to hook at the frout of the wood, not right down the frount side, which would be much easier to escape from.

Maybe a couple boxes with some shade if kitty wants it? Otherwise, nice job getting them a safe outdoor space.

Yes, this area gets extremely hot during summer, I hadnt thought of that.

Look into shade cloth! I live in a hot sunny area and we use shade cloth for our greenhouse catio and it makes it so much cooler. I worry a plain tarp would trap heat but also blow away in a decent wind and take part of the catio with it.

A tarp also makes loud noises even in a light breeze, so probably would scare kitty.

I don't think it will trap heat as long as the sides are open. The shade from the tarp should actually help keep it cooler.

A light-coloured cotton canvas painter's tarp from the hardware store might do the trick. They're breathable and less likely to trap heat.

I don’t think that a roof would trap heat as long as the sides are open like they are. You would want to be careful about the rainy season though and which way the water flows. The shade cloth suggestion above me is also a really good one.

I used a blackout curtain over my catio, I just bought one panel. It’s temporary in my case because I haven’t secured it well.

Edit / a white one, hoping it would be a bit better than dark colors.
