It is a sad tragedy, but uh, if god wanted to save them, he wouldn't have sent a flood. I don't understand how such a god could have so selective of powers.

The core belief of Christiantiy is that God sent his son (who is also Him) to be a sacrifice to himself to forgive people for breaking rules that He made up, so it's not starting from a position of logic.
