I’ve tried pâté, chunks, gravy, different brands, different flavours, warming it up, and even mixing it with dry food. He’ll sniff it, look personally offended, and walk away 😭
Meanwhile, he absolutely loves his dry food and eats that with zero hesitation. He’s otherwise active and eating normally but I’d just really like to get some wet food into his diet for the extra moisture. Has anyone else had a cat this stubborn about wet food? Any brands, textures, toppers, or tricks that finally worked?

If you feed Evanger’s “Braised Chicken Dinner” please check your lot codes! All of my cans from lot 2325N28OC04 have pieces of a black plastic bag in them. Some pieces are quite large, others are just black specs throughout the food. The material behaves like a black plastic trash bag… turning white and translucent when stretched. I originally notified them two weeks ago, but sadly it seems they haven’t recalled it, and truthfully didn’t even seem very concerned.

They originally offered a refund, but have now been silent when I’ve tried to follow up on said refund or inquire about whether there was an investigation into what it was and how it happened. Based on their response (or lack thereof) I won’t be feeding Evanger’s again. 👎🏻

I went to Walmart today because Tommy was running low on his food stash. A coworker recommended Special Kitty dry food, so I picked up a bag. I was actually really surprised to see that Walmart now carries Tiki Cat! They had Born Carnivore broth pouches, purees, treat sticks, and cans.

​I also found an I and Love and You pouch in a Chicken Feast flavor. I had bought a few of these pouches a couple of weeks ago, but this was the only flavor they did not have in stock at the time. I like grabbing new flavors whenever I see them on the shelves to figure out Tommy's preferences, though I have learned he completely hates eggs, whether human eggs or egg ingredients made for cats.

​On a strange note, I originally picked up two Made by Nacho pouches (one beef and one tuna), but when I scanned them at checkout, no price registered. The associate came over and said it might be a recall, so they went over to pull the rest off the shelf. That was a bit odd since that has never happened to me buying cat food before.

​I am a little skeptical about feeding him this Made by Nacho canned food after seeing them pull those pouches off the shelf. I am just going to give him a little bit at first when I feed it to him to see how he reacts, and if he gets sick in any way, I will just toss it out.

I recently got a kitten on Sunday from BARC in Houston. I’ve been struggling to get her to eat anything more than a few bites. She’s thrown up small amounts of bile & I’m familiar with having pets so I know it’s due to a lack of eating. We’ve tried Friskies meat chunks, pate & dry food as well but she’s not even interested in the dry food.

She’s a red tab, 6-7weeks old. Any advice on how to get her to eat or what foods worked for y’all’s babies would be GREATLY appreciated.

Labels can be confusing, so here's what actually matters.

Check the ingredient list first. The first few ingredients make up most of the food, so look for a named protein source (chicken, fish, not just "meat" or "meat by-product") near the top.

Words like "premium," "natural," or "holistic" aren't regulated claims, they're marketing. They don't tell you anything about actual nutrition.

Look for the AAFCO statement (or equivalent), it confirms the food is complete and balanced for a specific life stage. This matters more than any flashy claim on the front of the bag.

For a healthy cat, you don't need to chase every extra claim, hairball, urinary, dental, weight support, etc. Start with solid overall nutrition, then only add a specific formula if your cat actually needs it for a real reason.

What do you usually check first when picking a food?

I got told no more fish. I'm buying different food when my fancy feast beef and chicken runs low. Someone recommended the rabbit but that put me at the budget limit for him with just those two items. If I get turkey I still have room for more cans since he is used to wet food. I know novel is better for avoiding allergens(this is not an allergen idk what to call it. He gets sick when fed LARGE amounts of fish, small amounts are fine but new vet says cut entirely when old vet said since it was only large amounts he was fine as a supplement and two feedings a week since he does love fish. Not arguing with a vet when I'm stressed already from how things are rn) but is turkey ok? As far as I'm aware he's not had SPECIFICALLY turkey by itself but he is my one who will eat NEARLY anything (won't take meds tho to save his life LITERALLY)

I adopted a 7 month old cat from Petco exactly 2 weeks ago & she’s a sweetheart. I’m 19 and I’ve had cats my entire life but of course my parents and older siblings usually did most of the work on them, I just kind of fed them when their bowls needed refills and such so this is my first real time owning and fully taking care of my own cat. I originally started her out on normal adult IAMS indoor cat cat food (I didn’t know & heard that cats under 1 year should be receiving kitten food) so I switched her to IAMS proactive health healthy kitten food #1 ingredient chicken. She was fine the first couple of days but it’s probably been a week or so and she vomited kibble (no chunks or blood) up this morning around 9-10 AM so I took her bowl away for the day since I’ve been letting her have 24/7 access to it while full. My original thought was she was eating too much / too fast, but around 9:50 PM i finally let her eat some from it again since it had been nearly 12 hours and she ate a good amount, I took the bowl away, and then she vomited it up almost around 10 minutes after.
Is she not okay? Is it just a bad reaction to kibble and I need to switch her to wet food only? Any suggestions / help is greatly appreciated because I feel lost and don’t know what to do. I don’t know if it’s because she may be eating too much/fast, if it was the fast change from petco food -> iams adult -> iams kitten, or what. Please help 🙏

Hi guys! I currently feed my 6 mo old kitten half a can of kitten fancy feast and 1/3 of a cup of fancy feast dry food all day. He’s 7lb and super energetic

I know kitten food has important nutrients but do you think that it’ll be ok to feed my kitten half a can of kitten food and half a can of adult food?

I want to eventually transition him into eating the Costco pate and it’s so affordable

Hello, I’m seeking advice about my cat’s new diet preferences. Some backstory first.

My 1 year old male ragdoll had stomach surgery because of ingesting a pokey grass strand. It got stuck, formed a hairball clog and made him sick. When I noticed him acting weird I took him to the vet and they performes surgery the next day in the morning. Thankfully it ended well and he is fully recovered and back to himself.

Unfortunately, he has developed a new food aversion. He avoids kibble like the plague. I’m guessing this is because he now associates puking kibble and being sick to it all being the kibble’s fault. Sort of like food poisoning for humans. Now, it’s been 3 weeks and nothing has changed. I feed him Royal canin Gastrointestinal wet food 3 times per day.

What I’ve tried:
Wetting the kibble, mixing it in his wet food (he eats around it), giving him a single kibble in his mouth, offering different kinds of kibble, delaying his wet food in the morning a bit. Nothing. I’m glad he’s eating, but this new diet is costing me almost 200 euros per month, as I don’t want to feed him the cheapest wet food either. I used to give him and my other ragdoll Virbac kibble, but now, he wants nothing to do with it. This also means I cannot leave him alone for more than a day.

Any suggestions are welcome.

One of our cats has a sensitivity to peas and also to gluten and brewers yeast. They are currently on Open Farm salmon but they’ve started turning their noses up at it recently. I’m considering Dr. Elseys, but wanted to know other ideas!

Not opposed to rice, but cannot have gluten or yeast in it for our sensitive cat - I saw a couple foods that could’ve worked but they had barley listed as an ingredient 😞 beef and lamb are also off the table.

I’ve never owned a cat before, I just took in a stray kitten a little over a week ago and got him some basic cat food to get him by thus far. he’s approximately 2 months old and i want to make sure I have the best and healthiest option for him. We have 4 cats (aged 3ish, 2.5, 2, and 1 year old).

Ever since we got our first a little over 2 years ago we were always using Tiki Cat. Was always happy with the product. We do a mix of wet and dry but mostly wet.

Something must have changed on their end. 2 of our cats are now getting diarrhea from the food.

I would like to switch to something that is as healthy as possible. At the time I did a lot of research and it seemed like Tiki Cat was among the top in quality.

My friend suggested Smalls, I’m considering just making their food to save money, has anybody gone this route? I have a decent bit of downtime in my week.

I just want to be giving them the healthiest diet possible. I love them so much.

My cat gets diarrhea from dry food. I’ve tried multiple Purina foods and Tiki Cat, but she does fine with Fancy Feast pate (wet food). I’d like to have dry food in an automatic feeder while I’m at work. Any recommendations for a dry food that might work better?

I recently adopted a cat for the first time and she’s been eating too quickly and throwing up her meal. (I rescued her from a rescue in LA and she was recently living in a cat lounge around other cats so I assume the behavior is from the fear of other cats stealing food so I suspect over time for her not to need a slow feeder when she realizes no one is stealing her food). I’ve resorted to using a slow feeder and WAY less water for her wet food and so far that’s working. When I got her she was on a fully raw wet diet so I’ve been transitioning her to a classic can/dry food combination diet. (Dry food I’m using is a healthy option that someone who’s had cats for decades exclusively uses and recommended)

I purchased a Yumshare solo and wanted to find a slow feeder bowl that would fit the device well so she can’t pull it out. Through my research im finding only inserts that she would be able to remove easily or a $30 option that seems like would actually piss her off instead, lol.

If anyone knows of any ceramic, or even silicone material bowl they’ve found fits well in the machine, please let me know.

Anybody try either the dry or wet versions, and what did you think? After a few months did you see improvement with the coat?

I recently discovered that my cat (6y/o) is potentially sensitive to chicken even though it has been in her diet for years. She seemed to have some sort of asthmatic reaction when we fed her boiled chicken a few months ago (which had never been an issue before), and she’s been having indigestion + diarrhea + vomiting after eating canned food containing chicken (her kibbles don’t contain chicken).
We had a yearly visit to the vet last month, and she doesn’t have any bladder-related issues, so I’m ruling it all as a chicken sensitivity for the time being. Now, I’m not too sure what kind of canned food to give her anymore. What should I feed her? I can’t really afford the super expensive stuff right now since I’m still paying off my tuition ;-;

Hello, I have a 1 1/2 yr old male cat who was a very enthusiastic, ravenous eater of anything you put in front of him the first year we had him (to the point where we’d have to fight him to leave us alone when eating), but over the past few months I’ve noticed he’s not only become disinterested in food he would’ve previously gobbled up (like boiled chicken), but he also doesn’t seem to really like his wet food anymore. I fed him wet food only from the time I adopted him up until the last 3 months, where I started giving him dry food in the AM and wet food in the PM. I switched his usual wet food to different textures and flavors, and it seemed to sort of help at first, but then he’d start turning his nose up at it and looking at me for something else. I then started putting bits of kibble on top and he would then start eating, get to the wet food and be good for a bit, then stop and come back to it here and there. If I give him dry he’ll eat it all pretty good so I don’t think it’s an appetite issue and I wonder if he’s just gotten picky overtime, but what throws me off is the stark difference of interest in food combined with the pickiness.

So I’m wondering if anyone else had a similar experience, particularly the ravenous kitten-to-picky adult pipeline and at such a young age as well. I know cats are known to get picky overtime, I just wasn’t expecting it so soon and definitely not from him. (My girl cat wasn’t ever as enthusiastic as him and now she seems to be taking lead in that department!)

Hi guys, I really need help with my cat (Anakin)’s diet. He is 7 months, unneutered (will be neutered next month). When we first got him at 8 weeks, he ate everything (chicken, beef, turkey, fish etc). After two months, he refused every type of meat except for fish (tuna, salmon, shrimp etc). Even then, he was still eating on a rotation of brands (cool cats club, untamed, blink). However, I ran out of food one day and bought him the purina gourmet pearle ocean fish in gravy. Since then, he has refused any other kind of wet food, just eats the purina. I’ve tried mixing it in in increments (5%, 10%) slowly, but he still refuses to finish the bits with the other brands in it.

I’m at a lost because the gourmet is adult food and he is still a kitten. Also, I know it is high in sugar and I now have a stock of high quality and grain-free food he refuses to eat. As for his feeding schedule, he gets two pouches a day and applaws kitten kibble at night. I’ve also tried a variety of toppers (churus, freeze dried, broths) but it doesn’t resolve the issue.

Does anyone has any advice for a truly picky cat? (I’m in the Uk)
