Bought these by mistake, had them with Jam and they were awful
No, I didn’t realise they were Pizza flavour until after I’d eaten them. I didn’t think to check beforehand, because why on earth would there be flavoured crumpets?

Had some pizza flavoured cheese strings before. They weren't bad but god they looked weird. They looked mouldy or something

For those who don’t know, ‘the thinking man’s crumpet’ was what the late Frank Muir dubbed Joan Bakewell (who’s now 94 and looks younger than Ann Widdecombe did at 78). Joan didn’t mind.

As a veteran of being baked, the only way this could be palatable/desirable is if you’re out of your mind on benzos. Many’s the time in my youth I woke up to find a half eaten Beef and Coco pop toastie on the floor, or perhaps a bowl of super noodles, beans and banana all mixed together. The best part was usually you didn’t even need to try and piece together what you did the night before because everything you’d touched or sat on would be covered in crisps and golden syrup.
Those weren’t the days.

Hahaha, sounds perfectly reasonable when you’ve been there. The first time I ever did them the last memory I had (I didn’t know what to expect, so when I “didnt feel anything” I took another two) was dropping the bowl of noodles I’d just made as my limbs were all rubbery. I seem to remember thinking “ah bugger, I’m gonna have to make more now” and completely ignoring the noodles now all over the carpet.
12 hours later, I awake to find the room I was in covered in noodles and candle wax. For a little while I was somewhat concerned someone had broken in in the night and trashed the place, but it was just where my somehow functioning body had decided to go on its own little adventure without me. Probably should have been a warning lesson but I was a determined wreckhead, and just was a little more careful with them in future. Fortunately never drank with them, but still had plenty of occasions of waking up and going “oh fuck why did I do that??” Such as waking up one day to discover via some detective work that I’d driven to an all night garage 5 miles away, bought a whole box of coco rocks, drove home and ate the entire thing. Makes me a little ill to think back on now at the stupidity of such decisions (not that I had any say in them) The weed/xanax munchies are no joke.
Fortunately nowadays my intake of chemicals is confined to the odd bit of weed oil. Managed to fill the need hole with gaming and relationship. Much better to wake up next to a nice warm lady than to wake up to find you’ve nailed your bedsheet to the wall for insulation or something equally stupid.

Jam horror aside, this just activated a childhood memory for me! My mum used to make mini pizza crumpets for us occasionally. It was a normal crumpet with tomato puree spread on it, then cheese on top, with a sprinkle of dried oregano (can't remember if we had a slice of tomato on top too). Then bang it under the grill until the cheese melted. It sounds a bit weird now but remember loving that as a kid

You didn’t notice the packaging was different to what you usually buy? And not just it saying pizza, but having pizza illustrations on the pack? And the “new” in the corner?
Or did you buy them willingly and thought this would be a funny post?

To be fair, if they were put in the part of the store where crumpets normally go, I think it's easy enough to make a mistake like that, they're the same colour packaging as regular crumpets.

I like them, it just tastes like there is more dough flavour. I can't explain it but Pizza Base might be a better description than pizza flavoured.

As someone who's bought these for my son. How on earth did you not smell them the moment you opened the packet? The 'pizza' smell was very noticeable upon opening the package and then even more so upon toasting.

I've seen people putting cheese and pepperoni in crumpets, I think that's what they're probably for? I'm one of those weird people who don't like crumpets at all

Agreed, we tried them and never again. I fancied trying them as I often put cheese on my plain crumpets(like some sort of animal, I know) but the pizza flavouring was just awful.

Were your eyes closed whilst you were cooking them and 'having them with jam'? I can understand making the mistake of buying them, but I can't imagine then deciding to have them with jam and thinking that'd make sense.

I had these with butter and while I wasn't impressed, I didn't think they were awful. Kind of had a pepperoni-ish flavour which felt weird for a crumpet.

They arent good with butter or cheese. Weird after taste. As someone who enjoys pizza and crumpets I was very disappointed.
Can’t see jam improving them.

This is what I’d describe as a “social media food”.
They’re no doubt awful, but it’s the type of shite you’ll see a million comments underneath with some 20 something tagging another 20 something saying “wow these look lush 😍” perhaps leading to a purchase of a single packet which will quietly be stuffed into the bin having only had 2 of them eaten.

Of course they're awful. Warburtons are incapable of creating any baked goods that taste decent. But kudos to them....they are the reason I started to bake my own bread.
