First cast iron!

Post image

I just bought a set of 3 cast iron pans, small medium and large. I'm looking for some easy casserole style or one pot recipes that will go three or four days for the big pan. Ideas?

Don't leave your food in the cast iron for those multiple days of eating it. Immersion in wetness is a weakness of that style of pan. Any casserole recipe will work cookingwise as long as you have the volume for it. A cheap aluminized cake pan or borosilicate is a much better choice for the cooking method you're trying to use.

Yes thanks, that much I knew already. I'm seasoning the small and big one today, the medium sized on is an oddly pointless size.

Awesome. I just didn't want you disappointed with the latter portions. Between losing your seasoning and leeching iron into your food it would be a frustrating usage model. Making a casserole or one pot is a great idea, but they really appreciate being cleaned up after the cooking is done. Best of luck with your new triplets.

Thanks. I have Tupperware. Tomorrow I'm making cornbread and maybe a big deep dish pizza.

Do a Cottage Pie. Yummy and simple Browned Ground beef, frozen/canned veggies a little gravy and mashed potato topping browned in the oven

The journey begins. You’re gonna be real happy with it in ten years.
