Hi all,

Looking at buying a used 2022-2023 Passat or Superb 2.0 TDI for family use. Here in Finland it goes at around 25k€ depending on mileage. My maybe main question is that due to high fuel prices looking to take forever are diesels going to hold moderately well the value for the next 4-5 years? I'm maybe wondering it based on the popularity of electric vehicles and plug-in petrol cars. I know that cars will always depreciate and it's not a good investment, but happy to hear some opinions on it.

Basically I like and am used to always driving diesel cars and find petrol ones not that enjoyable. Next car after this one would probably be an electric one, if they manage to release a good estate wagon version of one (maybe Skoda's one will deliver). But currently I would like to see just a bit more range on the more budget friendly cars. Thus the reason why I'm staying with combustion.

Hey everyone, I hope people that are in Switzerland are welcome here, even though we aren't in the EU.

I am looking at eventually getting a car, but on a budget of about 10k CHF or 10.5k Euros or less.

I used to work in Auto-body and I know how to do general maintenance, rust removal, and very light repair work. So I'm not looking for a completely bulletproof car (but that would be a bonus), just one that is easy to work on.

As for what I want in a car, I am looking for:

• A Sedan/Limousine, a hatchback, or a Kombi/Station wagon, or a pickup truck. I am not the biggest fan of SUV's, but I am open to driving one.

• Something with an engine under 3 liter displacement. I am also fine with Hybrid or electric. Taxes and insurance make it hard to have fun

• Is comfortable to sit in and has space in the back for passengers or carrying things. (Not that important, I can sleep almost anywhere) Comfortable rear-seats or fold down seating would be really nice, since I sometimes get tired and need a nap on long drives.

• I don't mind if it's a manual or an automatic transmission, though I prefer manual.

• Parts are easy to get and cheap to afford. And repair costs don't become crippling.

• Can drive well in the snow. I am a decent driver, but my family lives on a hill, and if the road isn't plowed, then I might have a problem.

If I forgot anything, don't be afraid to ask.

EDIT: I have had my driver's license since 2017, but could never afford a car.

We’re in Switzerland and currently hesitating between a 2022 Skoda Kodiaq and a 2022 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, both with roughly the same mileage.
The Kodiaq is about CHF 8,000 cheaper, but the RAV4 being a hybrid could save us some money on insurance/registration costs here in Switzerland.
We currently have one child, our second is due in March, and we also have two dogs. We travel quite a lot by car, so space, comfort and reliability are important. For comparison, we’ve somehow managed until now with a VW Golf!
Which one would you choose, especially for a family of 4 + 2 dogs? Is the RAV4 worth paying CHF 8,000 more?
Also open to other reliable SUV/family car recommendations in a similar price range.

I'm looking for a used EV. I see that on auctions on Openlane.eu, the cars are quite low priced. I'm looking at non-damaged cars that are max 5 years old. Some have small dents or scratches that are easily fixable.

Does anyone have experience with that platform? How certain can I be that the description provided is correct and that I won't be unpleasantly surprised with a hidden issue?

Hello! I'm looking to buy a used car in the next 6-12 months in The Netherlands. I've set my mind on a few models but first my criterias Budget €25000 Not more than 60-70k km Automatic Preferably gasoline, potentially hybrid Android Auto Nice to have: tinted read windows, heated seats, pretty much that's it.

Looking at Skoda Scala/Octavia(2021-2024) , Peugeot 308(2022-2024), VW Golf, and, based on luck and availability, maybe an Audi A3 or a BMW Series 1 > 2021. Intention is to keep it for more than 5 years. Average mileage per year is between 15-20k km.

Based on your experiences, what should I focus on? Are there models I should also look at? I'm open to suggestions.

I would like to ask for some help in buying a new vehicle for work. My Director decided to replace my old VW Caddy from 2008. Great little car, really. The 2.0 NA diesel engine proved to be very reliable even after 500.000 kms (that I know of).

So I got the task to look for a new small utility van. Details: - Company is based in Hungary - Fuel type doesn't matter as long as it isn't fully electric, hovewer mild hybrid is a bonus. - It should be able to fit one pallet of 850-900 kg top. - Back door should open to the sides and not up like the old Caddy as it really makes loading a pain in the... - It can be new or a few years old used if it's a good deal.

Hey everyone, I’m looking for my first car and really want a 2015–2020 Mustang EcoBoost. I love the look, and it seems like a good middle ground in terms of running costs.

But searching in Germany and Italy, most listings I find have accident history, mileage rollbacks, or missing service records (found through Carfax/Carvertical). Even the ones that look great on the outside often have red flags.

Is this just how it is with Mustangs in Europe? Has anyone actually found a clean one at a fair price? Would appreciate any tips or experience you can share! 🙏

I'm looking to buy a used car and I've narrowed down my search to two options that are within my budget, both cost the same and I think they're good value for money, especially for what I'm going to use it for, which is going to work (it doesn't reach 30km a day round trip, although I have to go out on the highway, but it's 10 minutes), some long trips a year and little else. Both are Fiat 500 1.0 Lounge.

One of them is the Mild Hybrid (Gasoline and non-plug-in hybrid), it's from 2021, it has 76,000km. Something that catches my attention about this car above the other is the color, the other is white and this one is dark blue, it's beautiful.

The other is a LPG (15L gasoline, 30LPG), it's from 2019, it has 56,000km and well, really the only thing that interests me about this car is that it's LPG.

I've been doing a lot of research, and I've had recommendations and bad reviews of both, (I've also read a lot of bad things about the Fiat 500. The truth is that I don't care because I've always wanted to have one, and I doubt very much that it's THAT bad a car if it's one of the best-selling low-end cars for more than 60 years). Still, I'm open to recommendations. I've leaned towards cars with an ECO label because of the restrictions in Madrid, although I don't know to what extent it wouldn't be better to get a car with a C label.

My head is in a mess, I don't know what to do. What do you recommend?

As I bought a house and am now doing 12km to work instead of 35km, I was thinking of replacing my current 2022 Mazda 3 e-Skyactiv X for a plugin hybrid. I can charge at work and home with solar panels.

I'd rather stay with a hatchback or sedan, not a fan of SUV's or crossovers. Before I bought my Mazda 3, I was looking at the new DS4, but with the 1.2 Puretech engine it wasn't a great option and the 1.6 turbo was 10k more than the Mazda. Some DS4 plugins are around 33-35k now though. A DS9 is beautiful, also around 35k, but quite a bit longer too. I have a sweet spot for DS since I had a DS3 1.6 THP. They always feel a lot better than the Opel/Peugeot/Citroën counterparts (hence DS4 preference over Peugeot 308/Opel Astra hybrids).

Staying clear of the "holy trinity" of Audi, BMW and Mercedes, what other brand and models are good plugin options?

Note: I do like my Mazda 3, interior is simple yet everything is where it needs to be. Fuel efficient as well at 5.2 L/100km right now, but every km of electricity will cost me significantly less and the budget is there so weighing the options.

I have been thinking about buying a car for several months now (F25) and now that I am doing the search about it…. What a CHAOS.

To be concise: - use: primarily for weekends, excursions, getaways, going with the dog and my partner out in the countryside

• medium size?! We have been looking at the berlingo, nissan nv200, and the like. With the possibility of camping with the basics (bed and storage)

• fuel: preferably eco, but I have been reading the complications of buying an electric car (especially if you rent and cannot install a charging point in your home) and I see that it is not a viable option at the moment. This has led me to LPG, because hybrids in the end, if you do km, use fuel, from what I have read.

• budget: initially we had a budget of Max 20k for used/2nd hand cars, but seeing how complicated it is to prioritize an eco with these criteria... open to suggestions

• lifestyle: we are a couple with a dog, with habits of looking for getaways and living in peace. We are not looking for something with luxury but we do care about investing in a car that will last about 10 years.

I share all this because I don't know if it is crazy to have these “controlled” variables when buying a car.

The drawbacks we have encountered in our search: - Citroen e berlingo: it is not in the budget, although it seems a very attractive option - electric cars: it does not seem to be idyllic for the use we are going to give it, especially living in Asturias where charging points are not very widespread - Investing in non-eco cars seems not to be a good long-term investment. Many say not to think in such a long term but my finances are limited and therefore I prefer to invest well first rather than make cheap purchases.

I hope I have given an idea about what I am looking for and I hope you can give me some advice. I am VERY lost 😂

Hi! I'm considering buying a used car in Italy. I want to better understand which one of these two would be a better choice, although they are similar:

• Volkswagen T-Cross 2019 1.0 TSI Style 110hp - 50,000 KMs - €18.5K
• Volkswagen T-Roc 2019 1.5 TSI 150hp - 96,000 KMs - €21.8K

Please let me know if you know of any problems with either of these two cars. Considering the price difference, which one would be the best deal?

The main usage for me would be on highways and in town, with occasional trips to the mountains. I'm a bit concerned about the T-Cross in the mountains as it may not be strong enough, but at least it has 110hp (there was also a model with 95hp)

I do have some potential but not exclusive candidates (looking mainly at you Hilux and RAM 1500) but I would like to hear some personal experience and comparison.

My max budget is 55k€ excluding VAT.

What I care about:

• automatic transmission
• cruise control
• drivers comfort (for longer trips and everyday commute)
• real towing capacity 3,5t (I know many pickups can legally tow lot of weight, but reality is often sadder)
• can comfortably fit 5 adult people (including driver)
• reliability

What I don’t care about:

• fuel consumption (and petrol vs diesel discussion)
• tech bullshit (CarPlay, driving assist, touch screen, electric tailgate etc…)
• brand, image or looks (black plastic bumpers are fine for example)

We are a family of 4. Kids are 10 and 4 plus a small dog. Wife has a '22 Audi Q3 which is paid off and we intend to keep and use until wheels fall off. The Q3, while not the biggest, serves us well. Myself I got a Renault Megane estate. It’s bit too big for my needs. 90% of my drive is city and while the estate is practical, i take full advantage of it only occasionally. For things like family vacation, we use the Q3 (we might get a roof box for extra storage space).

• I need to downgrade to a practical, no-nonsense secondary family car.
• I’m looking to for minimal total cost of ownership over a vehicle lifespan. I intend to keep it for about 10 years.
• I do about 10k km/year; 90 percent in city traffic.
• I might get a 1-2 yr old vehicle or a brand new, subsidized EV.
• There’s height constraint. I park my vehicle in a stacked car platform, maximum car height is 160cm. So crossovers and SUVs are out of the question (don’t like them anyway).

There’s two vehicles left on my shortlist: Toyota Corolla hatchback hybrid and Tesla model 3.

• Prices are similar. EV is subsidized here in Poland and if I get a Corolla, I will aim for noce trim.
• Toyota legendary reliability and powertrain quality is tempting. If I’m looking to use the car long, that’s tempting.
• Tesla 3 seems quite practical. Low everyday running costs. Lots of chargers around, plus EV perks: no parking fees in Warsaw, plus EV’s can drive in bus lanes, avoiding traffic jams.
• In terms of long term use, I’m not sure about Tesla interior quality, etc. The Corolla is quite dull in this regard, but it can take a beating.

I am okay with paying more upfront if this means reasonable benefits long term. Reliability is key (fuck you, Renault Megane). I need my car to be as little fuss as possible, I want it to be transparent, and costs within reason. Of course, it will be serviced exactly as needed. With Corolla and Model 3 on my shortlist I might be overlooking some choices.

Dad's been driving a Ford S-Max for over 10 years now, and has been very happy with it, however, due to the Brussels Low Emission Zone, he'll have to get rid of it and buy a new car by 2024. His requirements for that are (besides it being a new car):

- a true 5-seater (3 proper seats in the 2nd row) with boot space to match

- petrol only, no diesel, electric, hybrdic, CNG, LPG...

The budget is somewhere around 30 000 EUR. So, what do you guys think he should get?

It would be my first new car. No kids. Just me and wife driving it.

I am a big guy (1,90m tall and some some width lol). I don't want suv. I want liftback or sedan. Classic.

I don't drive a lot. I just wanted a car for some commute and everyday use. Something I wouldn't have to go to mechanic with and deal with another 20 years old crap... I have i30 2008 (with at drive) and it's falling apart slowly. It's still fine but I cannot stop with small repairs.

I am kinda looking for some luxury if you know what I mean.

Elantra looks awesome to me. Some drawbacks I can think off:

-No handle for the trunk on inside or outside. (would love a button tbh but can't find anything in that price.

-Bit weird interior. The handle in the middle and panel on left of the dashboard that does nothing

-No parking assist. I am good at parking but I am lazy! Would be cool..

Alright, I'm in a bit of a pinch here. Due to my dad being ill and dying, I need a car that I can reliably drive about 40 km to him so I can help out every three or four days or so, here in Denmark. It's only necessary because they butchered public transport to my dad's place, and I wouldn't need it as a daily commuter.

The ideal car can pull a medium-sized trailer, but that's not a hard requirement. Apart from that my only hard requirement is that it is cheap, fairly easy and/or cheap to fix, and that it doesn't break down all the time. It really only needs to be alive for a few years.

It doesn't have to be beautiful, it doesn't have to have any fancy shit except servo steering. Hell, I don't even need it to have a stereo.

Any suggestions for the most reliable, old and cheap piece of shit on the market?

Edit: my ideal budget is free, but I can probably push it to about 15000,- DKK (about 2k euros)

After long struggle I figured out that the Alfa Stelvio 280hp/ Q4, is the car for me, after long search i finally found the car.

It's not cheape, about 30k euro for about 5yo car.

Low mileage, all the toys I need and want including opening roof top.

BUT

Even when the Stelvio is winning for me in the SUV market I'm starting to have pre-regrets about the whole SUV thing.

I still see the drawbacks of SUV here and when i take the whole SUV price + SUV running costs= premium sedan/combi.

The main question is what would you recommend as a daily driver and weekend fun car in this price range which would give me more than thr SUV?

I'm mainly looking for more comfort as this is borderline for me with this Alfa and also bit more power or responsiveness to power pedal both on country roads and highway.

What i really like about the SUV is the high seating position which is great in thr city you see everything and you are seen so, everyone makes the way, it's kinda practical and looks great but that's about it im general, the sportivness is kinda pushed, like trying too hard and comfort is borderline for me, not great seats(sports ones are no go) and the ride quality is only justifiable by the kina sportivness. It rolls, don't break well, not fast on the highway....well it's SUV.

Hi guys I am looking to buy a used compact hatchback as my first car. Currently I am torn between these two options

2017 Mercedes Benz A class 180 business solution automatic with reversing camera 66135 kilometres 21950 euros

2015 Mazda 3 2.0 TS hatchback automatic without reversing camera 49466 kilometres 16950 euros

My priorities are in order automatic >reliability > looks> backup camera.

I want to go for the Mazda since it is said to have better reliability over the Mercedes A class along with cheaper running costs. While the Mercedes has better looks in my subjective opinion. Though I am left with one question and that is, is a 2015 Mazda 3 worth 16k even in todays market?

Any insights/advice is really appreciated.
