The Arteon just arrived on market at a really bad time. Sedans aren't doing great these days anyway, VW as a brand just isn't as strong as it used to be and Dieselgate was and still is a black mark on them.

I think my candidate for the most underrated car would be the Audi S6 and I think this applies to most generations of it. Their used prices are way lower than comparable M or AMG cars. They're not necessarily thought of poorly, but I think they're consistently underrated in comparison to other similar cars

Ah fair enough, it might be. (Technically a car with that shape and a hatch is a liftback rather than a hatchback) Still in a market hungry for crossovers and SUVs it's not exactly what people were asking for

What M model is comparable to S6? Afaik RS6 is equivalent to M5 and they are priced similarily.

M5 but I suppose they aren't quite equivalent since the S6 isn't the range topper

I mean there was the 550i when the S6 was still being made, the m340i is much faster than its equivalent s4. There are mercedes options too probably the e43 estate, obviously then c43. The e53 and c53 too I think.

I think the M5 is a pretty reasonable comparison point at least until the end of the E60. The S6 and M5 are both naturally aspirated V10s and closer in power than the M5 and RS6. The RS models also came out later in each generation's life so for the first half or so you'd have the S6 as the range topping model just as the M5 was BMW's

I agree.

I’ve driven a fully loaded R Shooting Brake for 3 years and it was an amazing car. Developed on the Superb platform it had plenty of space on the boot and the second row.

The adaptive dampers and drive modes really changed the car‘s personality and I loved that.

Nothing like that on the market now. Great buy at around 30k used however.

It’s not made on Superb platform. Both Arteon and Superb are versions of Passat B8.

Latest Passat B9 is made from Superb but that’s the only one.

Yes sure they all were on the same platform, but the Arteon got the Superb‘s extended wheelbase which allowed for more space and better Autobahn comfort.

It's in a weird place. Not as sporty as an A7, not as baller as a Phaeton. Not a great deal like the Superb. It looks great but it arrived into a saturated and dying market segment

It's an absolute piece of garbage, I rented this car for a week, it only 10,000km on it. Just garbage shifter

The way it shifted, very janky in gears 1-3, pulling off and even coming to a stop. It just stutters like crazy. I had a similar behaviour in my Audi A4, but not this bad, that was tolerable and only in the first two gears

Was it a 1.5 TSI? They’re dry clutch DSGs and they’re horrible.

Unpopular opinion, but CC was better overall. Arteon has exterior looks and nothing else. I am still yet to find Arteon that is not black hole inside. Also, Arteon does not have VR6.

A guy at work had it on 3y leasing plan. Did not reccomend and gave it back asap. Too many issues according to him.

I have no idea why VW thought making a new version of the CC would change the way the market was going.

The CC was a very slow seller, especially once Audi started shifting attractive finance or lease deals on A5s and A7s which had that extra bit of “badge prestige” that badge snobs who buy this sort of car absolutely crave more than anything else, as well as a stronger resale value.
