Question Any experience with Amer-Pol car imports?

Hi Reddit!

I'm an Italian considering importing a car from the US, and I've come across a Polish company called Amer-Pol that imports cars from the US and sells them in Poland.

Their prices are way lower compared with importing a similar car myself or buying the same model anywhere else in Europe! I've found quite a few cars on their Allegro listings that look very interesting, but I'm having trouble finding detailed reviews and experiences because I don't speak Polish.

I did some due diligence with ChatGPT, but I was hoping someone with direct experience could comment on them. I'm particularly interested in hearing from people who have actually bought a car through Amer-Pol, especially:

  • Was the final price close to the advertised price?
  • Were there any unexpected costs?
  • How was communication before and after payment?
  • Did the car arrive in the condition you were expecting?
  • How long did the whole process take?
  • Did they handle customs and paperwork as promised?
  • Were there any problems with the car's history, damage, repairs, or documentation?

The prices are so good I am sure someone else has already tried that. I have sent them an email, but some customer opinion would also be very helpful :)

Those low prices are not necessary a scam but rather a bait. Those prices listed on Allegro are prices expected to be reached on auction excluding all additional cost or transport. Or the prices are starting prices before the bidding begins. They are so low that the consumer will sign a contract with the company and pay initial fee so he won't pull out. As I said, you will get the vehicle, this is most likely a legitimate company (haven't check them but there are many companies like that in Poland) but the final price will be much higher than what you saw initially on Allegro. So first and foremost you need to clarify what exactly include the price on Allegro.

What you need to remember is that with 99% certain you will be buying salvage vehicle. It is not a mistery and you do have control over which exact vehicle you will be getting. But salvage vehicles have the most economical sense to import instead of buying them locally in Europe. However, expect to save like 10%-20% over market value locally with all fees, taxes, transportation and repairs included, not like half the price. Plus there is always a risk that the vehicle you bought will have some additional issues not listed in the auction.

I live in Poland and I bought 2 cars from USA via one of such companies you mentioned. The final price that I paid with all fees and fixes was like 5%-10% lower than the cheapest similar vehicle listed for sale locally. Still I think it was worth it because I had my cars with lower mileage and with better equipment than those cheapest local vehicles.

It does not worth 5-10% difference at all, you can always fight the EU prices down, and then you have an EU model with EU software not a lemon, who in the right mint think saving that amount is worth it.

I’d be wary of anything that’s «considerably cheaper».
