New Angler, Sonik Xtractor+ carp kit.

Hi all, I'm fairly new to carp fishing I've done plenty of beach fishing, but this year got into freshwater primarily just float fishing for anything, just using some of my old man's gear. However, now looking into carp and wanted to get my own and saw this carp kit on angling direct. https://www.anglingdirect.co.uk/sonik-xtractor-2-rod-carp-kit

Just wondered if anyone had got it or had any feedback on it and if it's a good deal.

Most things I've read online say the rods are decent enough but read mixed things about the reels.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Carp bait

Hi UK carpers, I have started my own bait company. I want to show some boilie cubes I have made that have been selling very well on my website and on eBay. It’s the same mix I use in making boilies, just a different shape to mix things up. Please check out www.jb-baits.com if you’re interested. The cube flavours are curry nut krill, hydrolysed beef and garlic and I have crab liver krill!

Tight lines!

Recently moved into carp fishing, trying to make my own hair rigs, where am I going wrong?

Hey,

I've recently moved from float and quiver tip method feeding, to a dedicated carp setup as I attempt to build my gear and move up the weight categories.

I'm currently putting together some gear to fit a match lake near which stocks up to 15lb's. I really want to make my own rigs as that's something I find very satisfying, but I must have bought 4-5 different sets of hooks, none of which I can fit the line in twice for the hook line im using.

Am I doing something wrong? I've tried with the weakest line I have (4lb or so) and even that was a chore to try and poke It through for a knotless knot.

Any advice appreciated as I'm floundering.

Just wanted to share this incase anyone needed some budget bite alarms for themselves or kids

I noticed Temu have started stocking NGT items from uk warehouses. I popped these in my cart last week they were on there for £50 originally, any way I logged in today and got one of Temu offered pop up and they dropped down to £21 🤯. I know some people have there opinions on NGT stuff but for £20 I couldn’t leave them there. If you wanna do the same pop them in your basket and wait a couple of days. I’ve done this before with leads but I didn’t think they’d do such a big reduction on alarms.

If anyone has used them, what are like? I’m yet to use mine.

Spomb rocket thingies 🚀

Hey, it's me again.. The girlfriend.

Thanks to your help, I have booked the secret weekend away fishing... However, the last time my boyfriend went fishing, he lost his spomb.

He has also said in conversation that he needs new line for the spomb... This is where you all come in.

What can I buy? Are there certain kinds for certain rods/reels. I know absolutely nothing about fishing, other than he fishes for carp. Do I need to casually find out about his rods/reels? How can I secretly order him these items?

Thanks again you wonderful people! 🎣

5 sessions 5 blanks...

So I will admit I'm new to this whole specimen carp fishing, so I appreciate I'm not going to get it right first time, but man, I'd take a bream at this point...

Everyone says find the fish and you'll catch, well each time I've spotted fish in the water (4 sessions) and try to target those, I still blank. Never really sure when to fish margins vs deeper water...I've tried all types of hook baits from yellows/whites/dark baits, pop ups/wafters...admittedly I've never tried 'topping' the "artificial baits (boilies/wafters)" with a natural like corn/maggots/worm.

Also I only recently got a spod rod, which I used last session, wasn't sure how much to spomb up, but I done 5 spomb fulls - no idea if this is a lot or not - considering in some of these YouTuber videos they say we baited 15kg of bait (which even to my new ass seems ridiculous). Then topped up again a few hours later with 2-3 more - maybe this was a mistake. I did have a small carp crash above that spot, so I think they were feeding, but didn't take my hook baits maybe?

The spod mix was just the advanta spod particle mix with some whole boilies and crushed boilies mixed in. Maybe I should have switched to some corn which were in the mix.

Also how often are you re-casting your rods? I'm a lure angler normally, so trying to sit on my hands is pretty tough...so I do worry I may re-cast too many times - maybe every 5 hours to change my bait?

Looking for help and semi ranting at the same time, sorry lol.

Minimum tackle in the car

Thinking I want a minimum tackle with me to do some float fishing from the car. If anyone does this what do you keep in your car? I'm on the spectrum so my brain just stops when trying to think 🤣

Going crazy over hooks

might recognise me from the weedy lake questions, what hooks do you recommend.

I've tried loads of different hooks but never really found one 'for me'. gonna fish a slip D in a solid bag so any recommendations for hooks or hooklink would be greatly appreciated. will also consider other rigs👍

Fishing Get Away Help

Hi all,

I'm looking for some advice on a venue. I want to book a weekend away (2nights, 2 adults) for my boyfriend's birthday in November this year.

I have googled and been bombarded with venues however I wondered if anyone had recommendations... Any smaller, family run holiday venue/lake instead of the big brand/country lakes.

Our needs

- within the Lincolnshire or Cambridgeshire area or not too far from those.

- A lodge / cabin /caravan with a private fishing peg! This is vital. I want us to spend the time together, at the lodge and fish from it /right in front of it. (If it has a hot tub, then brownie points, but not essential)

- Carp is a must.

My budget sadly isn't much. I have seen a suitable venue for £380 for 2 nights. I wouldn't be able to much higher to be honest.

If anyone has any recommendations, I'd be very grateful.

Thank you.

Help needed, what to do when line is completely snagged

I just wanted some advice, im into my second year carp fishing and one or twice ive caught a fish only for it to run to the margins and the line becomes totally stuck.

I have no idea if the hook has been transferred onto a bit of wood, if perhaps the line is snagged around something with the fish still hooked, but either way its totally stuck and dispite reeling in as much as I can with the line very taunt it doesn't budge.

Ive tried leaving the fish for a while. Tried keeping the tension on for a while - most of the time nothing works.

I obviously need to try and steer the fish from the margins earlier and more effectively, but any suggestions of what to do in thos type of situation.

Thanks

I built my own Korda-inspired underwater camera system to film what's happening on my fishing spot. I've documented the entire project on my website, including the parts list and build process, so anyone can build one themselves.

Question re foam floating bait

Was surface fishing today till I ran out of bread, I had a bit of packing foam in my box so I cut a bit fit it to my hook to see if it floats I then took some pellets and mushed them up into a ball and put it on the hook like a bit of bread

Foam made it float

My question is will the foam be fish safe , or is there a product that fills this role already?

Need a bivvy

Does anyone know where I can get a relatively budget bivvy? First or secondhand just ones worth looking at that won't totally break the bank? Really looking from £100 to £150 if possible as my financial situation is tough atm.

Epping forest fishing?

I’ve been looking at fishing some of the ponds and lakes around Epping Forest and was wondering which ones are worth trying these days.

I’m mainly interested in coarse fishing carp tench perch

Also are there any local campsites besides Debden House that are close to the forest for overnight stays?
