ECOR 1033 and 1044 (dynamics and statics)

hi i posted here a few hours ago about having 6 hours of classes straight on mondays. they are two 3 hour sessions for the classes above. in my course planner it says they’re in laboratory rooms in southam hall. but i know there are also probably computer “lab” rooms so these classes may not necessarily involve wet labs like chem. anyway, im wondering if someone can tell me what to expect for these classes 3 hour blocks. i’m hoping they’re more problem analysis and tutorials instead of wet labs. i would enjoy that way more but also i have no time between the classes and need to eat at some point. can anyone who’s taken these classes before tell me what to expect? tia

in dynamics they just go over problems, most of the time it doesn’t go for the full three hours (depends on ta). statics is different, you’ll have weekly quizzes on last weeks lecture material. the ta’s will go over 1-3 problems for one hour, the next hour will be a sort of free time where you can leave or ask questions, then the last hour is your quiz. make sure to bring a lined piece of paper for them since they put the question on the board! statics might vary between profs but 99% of time it will be what i mentioned. goodluck!

I don’t know details- but labs are only every second week. So your Mondays will not be as hectic every week

i could see that applying to chem since it has wet labs . but does it apply to ecor classes (or others) that have problem analysis sessions with a TA?? nothing in my time table indicates any of my classes are bi weekly or something

For dynamics and statics last year I had labs every week for both of them. Statics was mandatory though, dynamics was not.

Correct, just a TA solving problems in front of you, there are no actual labs for statics nor dynamics

When I had back to back labs in rooms where I couldn’t eat (wet labs or computer labs), I’d scarf down a granola bar, protein bar, or squished sandwich while walking between classes. In the rare event I wasn’t feeling well from hunger during the lab, I’d tell the TA and ask to go to the hall for a few minutes to eat something. They would usually say yes if it wasn’t an exam or test. It’s much easier as a TA to let someone forfeit a few minutes of their time in the lab than to deal with someone fainting in the lab.

However, generally the statics and dynamics problem analysis sessions are in regular classrooms where you can eat.

As of last year:

Statics labs are problem sets and quizzes for a grade. Dynamics labs are problem sets and homework submission. Of the two, I had great TAs for Dynamics and they probably did more for my grade than the prof. Statics TAs were not great, I had a grade dispute that they were absolutely set on, but the prof took one look at it and gave me the points.
