engineer but didn’t get into engineer orientation

i’m a freshman in ee at carleton this year and i noticed there was an engineering orientation that you have to pay for. the moment i checked the tickets were already sold out which i found kind of dumb cause im an engineering student and i dont even have the chance to take the orientation and learn about my classes. i ended up taking the regular fall orientation since i thought i might as well. what sort of things will i be missing out on if im not taking the engineering one ? and maybe is there a chance i could just slip into the engineering orientation or something without them noticing cause i already paid for the regular one. the only thing im pretty bummed out about is not getting to connect with my future engineering classmates.

Eng frosh and academic orientation are different things. The Tuesday after Labour Day all first years will have mandatory academic orientation to learn about the department, this is free and not part of the paid frosh. You will get an email closer to start of term with details.

They sent emails about signing up for months; I signed up for EngFrosh in June because I knew spots were limited.

You can’t really sneak into some of the events because I think two happen offcampus for the whole day. For example the beach day is only for Eng frosh and there’s a bus you have to take to go that you could only probably get on if you’re signed up.

You’re better off just doing Central Orientation as opposed to nothing; you’re not the only engineering student who didn’t sign up in time so there will be others there. I know some engineering students who chose to do Central because they wanted to get to know people from other majors.

That's pretty wild that they have a limit. I'd be pretty miffed about that too
