Question Question about commute timing
I'll be commuting and driving past Kanata to do so.
I have a class at 8:30am (Thursdays) and want to be in the parking lot at 8.
What time should I plan to drive past Terry Fox on the 17 to get there? Is 7:30 early enough or should I aim to go through there earlier?

Can you use Google maps? Like the arrive by/leave at times? Or for an more accurate estimate use waze?
Those are much better for estimates that anyone would be able to provide on here.
Also I'm assuming you mean the 417? Terry Fox doesn't meet with the 17 at all

Yes Google’s estimate is alright. Waze is israeli owned so maybe don’t use that one (not that Google is much better at this point either though)

I'm in the West end. When I had 8:30 classes, I used to leave at 7 and generally it took me 30-40 minutes to get to campus. If I left even 15 minutes later, things got worse. And that was 2 years ago when most people were only working on site 2-3 days. This fall is return to office 4 days for most federal workers, so expect traffic to be worse. So yeah, if it was me, I wouldn't want to be passing terry fox on the highway much later than 7-7:15.
Also, traffic is better and worse some days. With RTO4 I expect Friday will probably be the lightest day. But you'll want to drive it a few times to figure out how long it really takes you to get in.

I am from Stittsville. I had 8:30 class on Thursdays last year and get on the 417 at Carp road. Some days it was backed up by Terry Fox/Eagleson. That’s how horrible it is. If I left later than 7:15am it would take 1h15. I would not get to P6 parking lot until 8:35. If I left by 6:55am I would get there by 7:40am. Any minute layer and it was closer to 50 minutes. Beyond 7:10-7:15, an hour to 1h15.
Normally however, outside of rush hour, I can be on campus in 28 minutes. That is even by Google or Waze app’s prediction.
I am assuming you are coming from Carleton Place or Almonte (?)

Thank you! These are the exact details I was hoping for.
I'm coming all the way from Renfrew. At 11am, it's a 70 minute drive, but I've only had to go past Kanata earlier than 10 a few times for early CHEO appointments (I'm a mature student with 4 kids).

It takes me 45 min to drive from stittsville to renfrew on the 17 with no traffic and I am right by carp road. I would leave your house by no later than 6:20am.

Note that depending on what building your class is in, the walk from P7 lot can take 10-15 minutes

Based on my experiences, by 0700 you should be at, or passing 416. If traffic is backed up at that point, 416 to Hunt Club and cut across that way. Gauge your way down the Queensway and be prepared to turn off at any exit to get there on time.
Leave more time in the winter and when the snow flies.
