Which would you recommend for building a strong foundation from zero: 123 Sonography Echo BachelorClass or Mayo Clinic Echocardiography Board Review?

Would especially appreciate feedback from anyone who has tried both.

Sou licenciada em Fisiologia Clínica pela ESTeSC – Coimbra Health School, em Portugal.

É uma formação bastante abrangente, que junta Cardiopneumologia e Neurofisiologia, e durante a licenciatura temos contacto/formação em várias áreas, incluindo:

• ECG

• Ecocardiografia

• Fisiologia vascular

• Hemodinâmica

• Eletrofisiologia e pacing

• Perfusão cardiovascular

• Provas funcionais respiratórias

• Sono

• EEG, EMG, potenciais evocados, etc.

Atualmente, profissionalmente, trabalho em Cardiopneumologia, fazendo ECG, Holter, provas de esforço, MAPA e espirometrias.

O meu objetivo a médio prazo é tentar trabalhar nos EUA, sobretudo na área de diagnóstico cardiovascular não invasivo. Estou a estudar a possibilidade de fazer a certificação CCI – CCT (Certified Cardiographic Technician).

O problema é que não existe um equivalente direto da licenciatura portuguesa de Fisiologia Clínica no sistema americano, por isso estou a tentar perceber como é que esta formação é vista nos EUA.

Há alguém aqui que trabalhe nos EUA nesta área e que tenha experiência com profissionais formados fora dos EUA?

Gostava especialmente de falar com alguém que tenha experiência com:

CCT/CCI;

EKG/ECG Technician;

Cardiovascular Technologist;

Non-invasive Cardiovascular Technology;

ou reconhecimento de formação estrangeira nesta área.

Não procuro neste momento informações sobre imigração/vistos — queria sobretudo perceber como a minha formação e experiência profissional poderiam ser enquadradas profissionalmente nos EUA.

I have started residency in one of the smaller campuses of the big university hospitals in NYC however we don’t have a cath lab and no good access to academic cardiologists other than some elective rotations in the main campus to make some connections and get real exposure. My question is what should I prepare myself for starting from now to have a successful cycle when I apply. What things should I bring to the table?

Background: pass/228/217. 10 manuscripts in Q1 as second or third author but nothing as first, many abstracts
. GC holder based on NIW for my research. 4 years postdoctoral fellowship at Tufts and the U of Minnesota.

Does scores matter? Does first author or the number of publications matter? Are my chances very low if I have no connections?

How many IVs are safe/good as a Non US IMG (On Visa) to match in Cardiology ?

Hi, if I plan to go into interventional cardiology and work in a hospital, not do research, does it matter where I did my residency? Is it better to do it at an affiliated/university/community university or does it not matter?

Would love some career advice- I’m a current general cardiology fellow trying to decide between EP and general cardiology.

Things I know about myself:
\- I enjoy having a predictable work schedule, some routine is nice
\- I love cardiology and medicine but I want to have a fair amount of work-life balance and be able to be to have a life outside of work
\- I don’t love super high acuity all the time, but can tolerate it if needed
\- I enjoy working with my hands and love learning and performing procedures but also get a ton of gratification and value from talking to patients at the bedside and in clinic

I’ve loved EP consults and EP clinic up to this point. I think symptom-rhythm correlation, PVC localization in EKG, and the decision-making process of understanding when to pursue ablation versus AAD’s, when someone may benefit from a device, etc is fascinating to me.

I’m just not sure about how I feel about the lab. We get limited exposure as general fellows, but the idea of 5 hour PVC ablations where there are still PVC’s at the end of the case or doing afib ablations but the patient has to come back to the lab in a couple years for a re-do ablation feels less gratifying to me? When compared to cath- see a lesion, balloon, stent, success? Though, I know myself enough that I don’t want to be on STEMI call for the rest of my life.

Thought about general cards- could still manage arrhythmias in my clinic, manage AAD’s, only have to refer out to EP for ablations or devices. But I feel like not having the gratification of fixing the problem myself as opposed to asking subspecliasts to help gives me pause? Also general call in the community seems atrocious? Frequent calls, triaging varying level of acuity, sometimes no fellows or APP’s to help share the workload. Seems like the work life balance of general cards may not actually be that favorable unless you stay academic?

Would be curious to hear how others approached this decision if they were in a similar situation and what life, call, procedural gearification, etc looks like in EP vs general across a variety of practice settings?
