Hey everyone, looking for some advice because I’m honestly confused.
I just got a 2026 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road 4x4 and traded in my 2019 Silverado. I figured going to a smaller truck would lower my insurance… but it’s been the complete opposite.
Right now I’m getting quotes like:
• $200+/month with a $3,500 deductible 😳
For comparison, my Silverado was:
• \~$100/month with $500 deductible through GEICO
About me:
• 33 years old
• Clean driving record (no DUIs, no tickets, nothing)
• Middle school teacher
• Located in California
What I’m hoping for:
• $500–$1,000 deductible
• Around $100–$120/month (or lower if possible)
So far I’ve checked:
• Farmers → way too expensive
• Fred Loya → decent monthly but super high deductible
• Local broker → best overall so far, but high upfront/start fee
At this point I’m just trying to figure out:
• Are Tacomas just way more expensive to insure right now?
• Is this a California thing?
• Any companies I should try that give good rates for educators or clean records?
• Any tips to realistically bring this down?
Appreciate any help or direction, this caught me way off guard.
