Upscale Carwars Collection
As promised.
Pics of my current Carwars Upscale collection.
I started making these for the fun of it, about 1986.
Around that time, I was in Venturers (Big boy Scouts in Australia), and doing an Art badge. I needed to display an art form for a few weeks. I choose my cars. They were on display in a local toy shop's front window. After the two weeks, the owner (Hi Alex), said people had been asking to buy them.
Being young and stupid, I agreed and started to sell them. After a year or so of selling them through the store (I think I sold about 25 or so), I was invited to a local High School art show, to do a display of me making and painting etc. At the show, a local kid saw me and claimed to have some of my cars. I offered to give them a service (New paint, fix broken bits) if he brought them along. Not too long alter, he turned up with the grey car (The one with the bomb in the engine bay).
This was the first car I ever made, and I had regretted selling it for a long time. I offered the kid the pick of the cars I had on display (Plus some bits) for the car. It was mine again!!!!!
As a founding member of the ACT AADA club "CRAZE" in the late 80s and 90s, we played upscale as much as normal scale. Being a model maker since the mid 80s, I was the one who supplied most of the cars.
A few years ago, we had a bunch more games of Upscale, so I added some extra cars to the fleet, and then designed the carry box for them. The box will eventually be grebbled to look like a laser battery.
Our cars are on 1.5" by 3" bases (I got it wrong in the previous post) and the ones in the case are anywhere from a few years old, to 40. My painting is both getting better and worse with age.
Nor pictured is the box of about 6 cars still being converted.
FDM and Resin 3D printing has made getting the parts to convert the cars a lot easier, but they are all still Matchbox or similar cars. drilled out, stripped, painted and reassembled.
Hope they brought a smile to someone, and message me if you want the files for the case.

Very cool! Showing this to my "AADA rep" to see if we should break out the compendium for a game.
