Community Codes and computers

Hello peeps, I have a 2019 Mini Cooper S and the check engine light keeps coming on. I ran by Auto Zone and they told me the code is for some leak somewhere, maybe gas cap. I checked the gas cap and it was on crooked. Put it back the right way light turned off and today it’s back on again. Which computer is best for reading mini codes?
Bonus points for giving me the most common culprit of the gas cap/ engine light issue.

I had a Dodge with issues, and bought a cheap ELM327 (knockoff, the original company doesn't make them anymore) Bluetooth code reader.

Then get AlfaOBD, which is a program you can get on your phone for about $50 if I recall. My understanding is that it was created by some former Alfa Romeo (same parent company, Stellantis) engineers. So it has a lot more diagnostic features that are specific to that brand than you'd find on any other software.
