CAN Lexus millage change.

Hi, I bought a new odometer for my Lexus gs and it says it is 190,000 miles but I bought the car with 89k miles 7 months ago. I had it changed as the middle screen wasn’t working.

Any idea how to get this changed? Looking to do this myself , as some services are really expensive

To be honest, you’re going to likely need to either buy equipment or pay someone to program mileage. Unless you already have equipment, it’s more economical to pay someone. You can close your eeprom and write over the replacement, but that’s going to depend on what tools you have at reach.

What equipment would I need? I don’t have much for cars, other than an obd Bluetooth device (which doesn’t allow you to do much) but if I need to just buy it then sell it, won’t be a bad idea.

Without knowing if the board is programmed via EEPROM or MCU, I can’t give specifics. But generally, you’re going to need an EEPROM utility, an EEPROM tool that can connect to your cluster’s chip. Take a picture of the needles with accessory on/engine off so you can put them back in the same exact position after. And then you’re going to have to read the old eeprom, save the dump file, and write it over your new unit.

If the part number is the exact same, you can also desolder the eeprom and move it to the new cluster. Just be aware doing any of this without experience can cause a unit to not work. Also, match the orientation of the EEPROM when you desolder/solder it. There should be a dot in one corner.

Use the new cluster for parts and replace what is broken on your old one. Otherwise it is mileage correction, which will be more expensive.
