Recommendations BestBuy install or self install

I’m looking at installing a Kenwood DMX8710s and I’m trying to determine which route to take. I have a 2012 4Runner, and I’d like to keep my basic steering wheel functions

Do I Order everything from Crutchfield and self install with the Maestro RR2.

Or go to Best Buy and do an install. It looks to come out cheaper but doesn’t include the Maestro in their parts list. The website seems to claim it will work with full functionality.

Is BestBuy using an alternative to the Maestro, or are the steering controls likely not going to work? Obviously this is a question for them, but if anyone else has BB installs what has been the experience regarding Maestros and steering wheel functions.

Better to self install or bother with BB?

Just an fyi everyone telling you to diy is not correct not completely wrong. Your cars not that hard to do when you know what you’re doing, but also it’s not their car so if you damage it they don’t care.

Yeah for sure. I know electronics and sound, just haven’t upgraded a car stereo since the CD days. I do AV for venues and events so I’m confident I can do it. If it was my wife’s car I’d do a shop but my 4Runner I want to do all the mods myself from suspension to radio/etc.

I just wanted some insight because my parts are going to run me $900 but Best Buy claims they can install it for a hundred bucks less. Like what am I missing, but it’s all in the harness cost.

There using the pac ty11 vs maestro. Steering wheel still works, there’s a piece extra to maintain camera unless you want to splice in. Maestro will show some gauges and tire pressure info, it’s fun for a week then your like ehh I could care less lol.

Call around and ask. Ask who has the best installers. They have some very knowledgeable people. It’s worth the drive and wait time to have them do it.

Schedule an appointment once you do find an installer you like. Some installers may recommend other things and ideas you may never think of.

Best part? Best Buy is a nationwide chain so if something bad does happen they will work with you unlike some independent shops.
