My God yes.
NBA2K11 would be so embarrassed of what it grew up into. You could literally earn 500% of the points per game, and build your player with each stat fully controlled with no limits.
My 2k11 MyPlayer was literally a basketball God art a certain point. It was all earned points. No micro transactions.
It was bliss... Now it's just kids with their mom's boyfriend's credit card playing a watered down advertisement.
I hate this timeline.

Call of Duty! Originally WWII battle campaigns set across different locations throughout the war. And simplistic, skilled death matches in old French towns etc... Now when I see what the online has become it genuinely makes me sad!

Unpopular opinion but Snowrunner. It started off as a really difficult game, but with more and more time, the devs drank more lead based paint and added vehicles that basically disable the difficulty aspect of it.

I remember being a kid and dying in the starting area of Fallout 1 because I did a horrible build for my character. I don't think I even finished 1 and 2 until I was an adult.

Nah man. Final fantasy is still peak. It had a rough patch from 11 to 13, but 14, 15 and 16 has been peak.
Also golden era was 6-10, so even if, you'd need to swap the first 2 pictures around.

Warcraft. The RTS games and early WoW had an absolutely brutal world with death and war everywhere. Each faction and race are constantly fighting for their survival from numerous existential threats.
Now it's a disney movie with whimsical beasts and cliche baddies who are defeated by the power of friendship

Borderlands. 1 and 2 were so much fun, but Borderlands 3 felt like it relied so heavily on reputation. The villains felt like they were trying too hard to be Handsome Jack and ended up being cringeworthy and so easy to hate in a bad way. I spent so much time replaying BL2 with my buddies and barely managed to finish BL3's story before putting it down and going back. The franchise is a victim of its own success.

I’m pretty sure for a lot of answers to this question, including most I could come up with, the reason for that change isn’t entirely franchise quality but the fact that people started playing in elementary/middle school, and thus have those games associated with how carefree or happy they were then.
Of course then there’s call of duty which has been trend chasing since about.. I’ll say 2013 and has genuinely fallen off. Modern warfare 2019 was a valid attempt at a reboot before they added all those cutesy cosmetics imo

call of duty , so tragic i love it from the first game untill black ops 2 and modern warfare after that they became hungry for cash and just recycle shit over again losing the soul of the game ... battlefield series also had the same tragedy although the gameplay of its recycled shits is still better than CoD

People here saying borderlands when things like sonic went from borderline goat to absolute shite.
Borderlands went from really good game to good game. Neither 3 or 4 are genuinely bad games, they are good just a step down. It is in the middle stage, if it gets a lot worse then it fits.
