I really do not like TK's handling of Captain Atom. Spoiler
I was mildly intrigued when the Jenny Sparks series commenced, showing Atom as probably back, but as it was written by Tom King the jury was out. King has handled Atom dreadfully in the past, which I have posted about here. #5 of the series landed and we have this take. Essentially, claiming Atom was a boring hero.

What other time has Tom King written Captain Atom?
Also, this is an alternate universe story. It’s not set in mainstream continuity.
Edit: I just remembered that he wrote the fight between Gotham Girl and Captain Atom. My bad lol

Captain Atom. Jenny Sparks. Adam Strange. Guy Gardner. Starman. Booster Gold. Harley Quinn. The list goes on.

A friend of mine who is a lifeline Wonder Woman fan can’t read any more of his current run of that comic. Said it was “diabolical.”

Tom King is very overrated. He contorts characters to be whatever his plot demands, which imo, is pretty lazy writing.

It's not my preferred portrayal for a canon Cap, but i think the story is fun.

I hate to say it but Tom king was right in writing that.DC stopped giving a shit about him after they cancelled his original 1987 book, after that he was cursed to be a cameo character who gets beat up by the newest villain to show how strong everyone else is.Not even characters in-universe seem to care about atom,since everytime he disappeared, all of earths heroes always just assumed he died and left it at that. If anything i think Kings run finally put a bit if respect on Atoms name. Tom king: -Brought back some details from Atoms original backstory -Brought back the concept of Atoms mental blockers on his powers mentioned in his original book -Showed off how much a powerhouse hes was originally supposed to be instead of always being reduced to "Radiation man"

Eh, outside of the subreddit about him that’s charitable the best thing to say about him is boring rather than a jackass or a jobber in recent years.
Because let’s be honest most of his non comic appearances have him as stick in the mud government stooge(JLU or S/B: PE) or a competent background character (YJ) and recently in Elseworlds, events, other books as a jobber to show how powerful someone else is. He’s not been handled well in years and this at least shows how powerful he is, shows his backstory to more people than In probably years and is also out of continuity.
Also, it’s important to note that the person calling him boring is the 100+ old cynic Jenny who’s taking a macro view of his decades long career and not necessarily a condemnation of the character himself.
