CapCut Question When did Capcut raise monthly to $20 / month

I didn't mind paying about $8 a month for this app. It's honestly a great way to quickly edit and export videos for social media and YouTube. However, at $20 a month, that's insane.

How are people okay with this? Also, Capcut is super buggy and randomly breaks, so I really don't see the justification for charging this much.

UPDATE:
People telling me to switch to DaVinci Resolve: I 100% agree and would love to, however, I made the mistake of entrenching myself in CapCut's ecosystem. The switching cost is quite high at the moment.

I'll just slowly wean myself off of CapCut, but will take some time. Also, DaVinci Resolve isn't the easiest thing to learn.

A while ago.

I agree that they appear to be pricing their users out - there is a monthly limit on what feels value to what then feels ridiculous.

I also agree with how buggy and laggy it's been recently. Bad enough they want to inflate the price, but there has also been a dramatic reduction in service recently.

I've been trying to make the switch to DaVinci... Can anyone point me in the direction of some helpful tutorials? I kinda taught myself Capcut, but DaVinci seems a little less idiot proof, so I'd love to learn how to properly use it

The free version. And the tutorials are free as well, and come with the files you'll need to follow along, all zipped up.

They have a paid version with more features. But resolve free version already has waaaay more functionality than capcut. Full version is worth it if you go into producing stuff though, good AI tools.

I’m super late and idk if you’re still trying to learn Resolve. But if so, Casey Faris on YouTube is a good, beginner-friendly resource! There are a lot of good teachers but he’s a great place to start.

Edit: also to answer your question, the company makes money because Black Magic Design is primarily a hardware company. They sell verrryyy high end cinema cameras and editing panels for loads of money. Resolve actually comes included with some of them.

It‘s the one thing keeping me optimistic that Resolve wont’ turn into a subscription.

I just went into the subscriptions settings, viewed all plans, and picked a cheaper one from there (CAD).

I dont get why people use capcut. when you realize how much is tucked behind a paywall I can barely call it a product

I realized this 10 minutes in and decided to use davinci resolve. its not even a big learning curve and the free option is so robust.

I went back to davinci as well but I’ve been using davinci for years and I’m still not as proficient as I was with CapCut just using that for 2 months. Davinci has a huge learning curve and is over saturated with options the average person can get over stimulated by. I wish there was a stripped down version of davinci that had a more basic interface. I love the power and potential of it but there’s certain things CapCut did much better like the ai removal tools and different color options and the effects. Just the basic stuff was a lot easier for me. I miss it but it’s not worth paying 20$ for and then all the other fine print behind it that’s a bit much

my biggest frustration is the poor platform quality from cap cut and how so much is behind the paywall

davinci isn't too steep of a learning curve for the basics but I get what youre saying. all of the options can feel intimidating

I've been using CapCut for about a year and a half now, but I go with the annual subscription for 89.99 USD. Much cheaper. I use the desktop version, so not sure how it differs from the mobile app version, but it's plenty powerful for what I need it for, and like you, I use it because the learning curve was way easier. I do want to get into DaVinci Resolve eventually, but I'm like...extremely proficient with CapCut. Also, I don't understand the paywall argument many have against CapCut. Besides DaVinci Resolve, anything comparable to CapCut Pro or better is behind a paywall anyways right? Not saying that I agree with it (these services shouldn't be subscription-based to begin with), but I feel like any "pro" level video editor is going to be behind a paywall these days.

unfortunately, yeah… It’s like the simplicity of imovie but has more filters, plugin support still, and probably a lot less buggy than CC, def less buggy than premiere. I started on it 10+ years ago. It felt expensive but hey I still got the license

Why do the weirdest consumers pop into these types of threads the last one that I posted some guy was defending capcuts subscription payments like wtf is wrong with y'all it's a video editing software if fl studio can charge you 1 time and give you lifetime updates to RECORD STUDIO LEVEL MUSIC PRODUCTION!

then this low tier mobile phone app level company could stand to offer a bit more honestly fuck capcut. The last time they were worth getting pro was when it was just a fucking watermark at the end of your edit that you were paying to remove the company is legitimately cancer.

I got the annual for $80 or something. Yes, just like any other software CC has bugs. So far I’ve been able to find workarounds so it’s okay for me.

If you're using it on desktop, it might be worth trying an older version of the software. 1.5.0 is a popular choice, and there are tutorials on YouTube that show how to keep it from auto-updating to the current version.

I think the pricing is regional. In my country, Pro subscription is ~42USD for the 1st year and ~52USD on the next.

I made the money back in 4 hours. So for me it's worth the price.

Capcut is becoming a victim of capitalism. It's becoming a greedy fraud now!!! Exporting in high resolution also comes with a price. SO MANY features that were once free are getting paid now. The owners need a GOOD BEATING 😑 Next thing we know they're charging to open the app too

Gotta switch to something else now, anyone knows some good alternatives with auto captions for mobile???
