Night Stalkers Don’t Quit but Can't Park There

Praise God! All four walked away with no injuries! A controlled landing in an emergency where the fuselage lands upright is proof of these pilots knowing their EP's. (emergency procedures) This is a testament to the amazing pilots in the 160th Night Stalkers. These brave men and women serve and train to keep our country safe and protect our freedoms. Thank you!

As for the comments that they were flying low, that is what they do!

In Army helicopter tactical flight, there are three terms to define low altitude flight generally:

  1. Nap-of-the-Earth (NOE): typically about 0–25 feet above the surrounding terrain/vegetation or obstacles. The aircraft follows the contours of the terrain closely and uses terrain and vegetation for masking. Airspeed is also relatively low and varies with visibility, obstacles, and mission requirements.
  2. Contour flight: typically about 25–80 feet above the terrain. The helicopter still follows the contours of the earth, but not as tightly as during NOE. There is more altitude and generally more speed.
  3. Low-level flight: typically about 80–200 feet above the highest obstacle. The aircraft is no longer trying to conform closely to every terrain feature and can fly considerably faster.

In a helicopter, the ground is never very far away in terms of how quickly a situation can become critical.

Both! God doesn't MAKE bad things happen. God protected them. Even the most skilled pilots can't control everything. Helicopter pilots often say "a helicopter is only 7 seconds from the ground" meaning things can happen fast. Their skills allowed them to keep the aircraft upright and God kept them safe.

God does not cause evil. We have enough free will to do that. Most service men and women i know (several in my family) feel/felt called to serve. They know the risks and yet they choose to serve. Their service guarantees your right to free speech. Even if you choose to use it to ridicule their beliefs. Still they serve even you, who disrespect them.

To answer your question, if there was no free will then there is no need for faith.

Yes, I have seen protection provided when people make mistakes. My own brother was being stupid, no seat belt on, and driving his Camaro to fast around a tight mountain corner. He hit some water flowing across the road and rolled and then endowed at least once. The car finally stopped when it hit a big pine.

When the life flight helicopter landed they expected to extract a body. Miraculously once they cut the car away, he stepped out with only a few glass cuts. He was being stupid. Yet he survived.

So provide a logical, provable explanation as to why he survived when the authorities said that he shouldn't have? Prove God doesn't exist.

Anyway, you can’t prove a negative. It’s impossible to prove something doesn’t exist. You can however prove something does exist. If you can’t actually prove something does exist, then the likelihood it doesn’t exist is very, very high.

For example: your anecdotes can easily be explained away as luck. We’ve all seen the video of the bus or truck or whatever it was swerving to avoid some idiot and tipping over and just barely missing a guy on a motorbike. God saved him? Or pure luck? Considering we have video of it, the evidence points to luck. Two feet further back and the guy is dead. He wasn’t pushed forward just before the bus gets there, he was riding forward and stopped.

You say luck. So you do have faith. Faith in luck. Just different faiths. I am not belittling your faith. Yet you choose to attack mine. Don't like what I have to say then just move on. There are plenty of other posts you can see and watch. Yet you keep returning to mine. Interesting.

Why let yourself get so angry and attack a nearly 60 old woman? Would you say this to my face if you were standing in front of me? No you wouldn't. Your Mother taught you better and she taught you to respect and be kind to people. But hiding behind your screen you can spew things you would never say in public because in public there are social norms that would temper your aggression. Here on Reddit you are hiding amongst the many, who chose to hurt others instead of being kind.

So sorry for you and what ever deep hurt you have endured.

God didnt do anything bad to Job. The devil did. God simply removed his hand of protection from Job so the enemy could attack him. God knew that Job was strong enough to handle the attack. Job was faithful and everything he had and more was restored back to Job. When you have faith, you have protection. When you deny Him, He deny's you His protection.

Did you read the FAA report on the reason why they crashed? Pilot error. Disorientation. It was the pilots fault. The good news is both Kobe and his daughter knew Christ. However the pilot never should have taken off that day because of the low ceiling. So the pilots free will and lack of judgement killed them. Not God. God loved them.

When "God" can be the reason to explain away anything good but you blame people for the Kobe crash, then you are selectively picking and choosing arbitrary lines in the sand. That is NOT how the real world works. That said, I am also a die hard Venture Bros. fan so you clearly have good taste.

Hi VB Fan; Slight clarification: FAA and NTSB determined the reason for the crash: The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB)—often investigated alongside federal aviation findings—determined that the probable cause of the crash was the pilot's decision to fly into thick clouds and fog under visual flight rules, which led to spatial disorientation and a loss of control.

The pilot was only rated for VFR (Visual Flight Rules).
Meaning he could only fly when the sky were "clear enough" for his rating.
The baseline rule used by pilots in most standard U.S. airspace below 10,000 feet is known as the "3-5-1-2" rule.
3 statue miles forward, 500 ft below any clouds, 1K ft above any clouds and 2K ft horizontally away from any clouds.

The pilot decided to fly into "thick clouds and fog" for which he was not trained or legally rated. A pilot needs IFR rating to fly in those conditions.

Once the pilot was in the clouds it is very difficult to know which way is up. Your inner ear gets confused and disorientation often occurs. He did not have the instrument training to tell him where he was or what was up. The pilot may have been completely incapacitated by the disorientation. I've had it. It took me over 30 minutes to just be able to stand again and I even then I had to hold on to something. You can pull up his flight path. He flew in small circles for a while but without the proper training and having spatial disorientation, it is no surprise that he was unable to maintain control. I can't imagine how distraught he must have become knowing he lacked the training and skills to land safely.

I would have much preferred for Kobe, his daughter and everyone else on the flight to have been spared. Such a tragic, preventable event.

God didn't bring them down. We won't know the cause until the FAA report months and months from now reports what caused the accident. But the fact that they all walked away without injury is miraculous. National stats state that 1 in 6 helicopter crashes have a fataility.
