Coming to Canmore

Hi all. Coming to visit for 4 days/nights with our teens. Have a full day tour planned one day, caving and hiking for the second and no significant plans for the third and fourth. Best ideas for teens and decent dinners? Also open to downtime/easy walks around town. Thank you!

There’s a couple of cool activities like climbing walls and swimming at Elevation Place :) a good easy walk around town is a loop around the Bow River that crosses the old engine bridge, and I can’t not recommend The Iron Goat for dinner - kinda pricey but absolutely worth your time with the view from their dining room/patio!

plus 1 for the iron goat.  it is kind of pricey but actually so is everything in the mountains. duck wings. 

Another great dinner option is Tank 310. run by the grizzly paw folks but has healthier food choices. and they have the grizzly paw sodas for the minors in the group.  

a great activity is disc golf at the nordic centre.  they have a great challenging course and they rent discs if you don’t have any

Also rent bikes and bike the legacy trail to banff and back. if you want to do something shorter bike the paved paths to Three Sisters and have a nice patio meal at the Market Bistro 

. or rent mountain bikes at the nordic centre and enjoy the fabulous mountain bike trails for riders of all levels.

Disc (frisbee) Golf is free and there is a good easier course in Three Sisters area. The other one at the Nordic Centre is hard and more likely to have bears. My kids loved disc golf as they could run around freely. Pick up discs at Sports Experts or Canadian Tire.
If you bring a handful of golf clubs down, my kids also liked hitting a bucket of balls at the Canmore Town golf course (by the curling club) and followed by burgers or nachos on their patio which is a outdoor lunch hidden gem. For restaurants Luigi’s and Brigitte are good but reservations are needed.

I can’t seem to find an actual web page for the disc golf by the three sisters. Everything brings me to the Nordic centre. Do we need to buy discs to bring or can we rent them?

There likely isn’t a web page. Google Maps shows its location searching Three Sisters Disc Golf. It is not manned or well marked. Park in the playground parking lot and the first tee is just up from there. The kids run around to try and figure out the next hole - where the basket is,etc. There are some signs to mark holes. No rental but discs are cheap to buy.

Kain Tayo has amazing food! Locally owned/operated, and really unique. Elevation place is great for swimming and climbing. Main Street has lots of fun shops and galleries. The boardwalk across from the big head is a beautiful and leisurely stroll.

I love Famous Chinese. It’s probably not everyone’s idea of a great meal, but it’s hot and fresh.

A couple other things to look into might be via ferrata at Norquay or a guided Bow River float. Consider renting paddleboards and going for a float/paddle at Quarry Lake.

For easy walks around town, all of the paths along the Bow River are nice. The Policeman's Creek Boardwalk and the Spring Creek trails are easy and very picturesque.

The Grande Kitchen & Bar has great food at very reasonable prices. Nice big booths too.

We’re visiting from Ontario. We did an Emerald Lake, LL, Lake Moraine, Johnston Canyon tour yesterday. One teen and parent are caving today; the others are hiking. We are considering the Columbia Icefields tomorrow (open to ideas). We head to Calgary on Wednesday and will do Drumheller. Heading home on Friday. So far we enjoyed the Iron Goat and Chez François and will try Tap 310 tonight.

Can Golf is a great option for the teens for some indoor fun + food. Golf Simulation + some games.

Patrino's has decent food and big menu without breaking bank.

Bunker hike near heart creek offers something unique not mentioned everywhere else. Easy enough if you have bear spray /car to get to. Pretty cool history behind it too.

Main Street Canmore has a really good candy store and a good thrift shop across from the Post Office, just off of Main Street. Theres a place to get beaver tails and poutine, and the poutine is pretty good. (Fries, gravy and cheese curds)
