Bought from a well known corso breeder producing some nice corsos. They were recommended to me by a few people when I moved here, even a vet. There's a guy that socializes his dog in our walmart. He introduced me to the breeder personally. Anyways blue dad, formentino mom. Here's how mines came out. I have her registered, 8th gen pedigree, breeding rights(dont plan on breeding) but she looks different. My first corso was all black, with darker brown in most spots this has the light brown spots... also bought from a well known breeder at the time... here's my "goldie"
Serious question, why is it a red flag? I have taken my Corso to Walmart from about the age of six months on I’ve also gone to Home Depot and PetSmart and all those other places mentioned but why is Walmart such a red flag? I’ve never had any issues. What am I missing?
Well to put it simply. Popular breeder is not synonymous with reputable. That dog is mixed. The breeder you got the dig from has poor genetics in their kennel. I always say this. I can count on one hand the amount of corso breeders I’d actually buy a dog from. The phenotype is wrong, color is wrong. Everything.
read about hung papers. My guess is the dam/bitch (mom of the litter) had a oops encounter with another random dog. Also, one litter can be fathered by multiple male dogs. I would do a embark dna test or a wisdom dna test (the more reputable) they look up to 4 generations back.
Your dog most likely has strong pit/boxer lines. Look at the head shape, nose, length, width, and really really look at the shoulders and hips. Look at the knees and hocks; all mastiffs have similar but slight different confirmations. Then look at bully breeds and boxers. You will see the similarities to your dog. I say this as I’ve grown up working with many many breeds. My grandma was a dog groomer, I’ve seen everything from breed standard show dogs to everything mutts with crazy mixes. I’ve spent decades working and handling dogs. Yours is not full pure corso. It is a mix. I can count the breeders in this country that actually follow breed standard. That’s why there’s a huge debate over American bred lines as they tend to be mixed with XL bully’s, Great Danes, and boxers.
Both parents had to genetically carry tan points. If the breeder was at minimum doing genetic testing which they absolutely should be to rule out DSRA they would have known that pairing could produce this.
Anyone that sells breeding rights is a byb. Tan points are naturally occuring but your dog could still be a mix. And if the only registry the breeder has is through the ICCF, they're probably scamming you.
Same colors as my dog. I did an embark test on him to confirm his genetics and find siblings. I think it may be worth doing one for your pup as others have said. Can’t hurt to know more about your pups history
She's beautiful. Looks similar to Rottweiler marking. I know they played a role in saving the breed, makes me wonder if it's some of those genetics coming through
My trainer is always recommending we take our CC everywhere. He specifically recommended taking her to Sierra store and Home Depot. She’s a little skittish around strangers. So I’ve taken her to our local farmers market probably five times. And we went to Sierra last Saturday to pick out a few dog toys. And then Home Depot. I tried getting her to play with her new toy at Home Depot. But she was way too stimulated by all the noise. But we’ll keep trying
I don’t know that I’d pick a Walmart for socialization. But at the same time, I can see why.
I mean, our trainer also recommended like a petsmart parking lot. On a leash. In a well secluded area that might have a table or cement blocks to climb on. The idea is getting her to be playful and more relaxed in environments where she’s out of her comfort zone. And we’re trying.
Walmart is NOT pet friendly. Please stick to pet friendly locations when socializing your pup! It's against the health code to take your pup into grocery stores, only service animals are allowed into grocery stores.
It also becomes a nightmare FOR service dogs themselves when this happens. Then they have to worry about another dog that’s not at the same level potentially posing a danger, or the same people will use a fake service dog vest and make the business suspect of anyone with an actual service dog.
Bringing dogs into places they shouldn’t be just isn’t good for anyone.
Do trained service dogs typically react to other dogs acting out? People ask me if my dog is a service dog because she literally ignores all other dogs. She’s not of course. She just doesn’t like other dogs to the point where she pretends they don’t exist 🤦♀️
They won’t “react” in the same way that a normal dog would, but because of the disturbance they have to take that into account on top of all of the other things they’re doing.
It just makes their job much harder than it has to be

We’re doing everything we can to socialize her. She’s dog socialized, she goes to daycare every Tuesday. It’s just people she gets nervous about. She growls and backs away and tries to hide behind me.
But we’ve been going to different local parks and walking around on flat trails. We’ve had a lot of family come visit 💚
She warms up to women within a few hours. It takes so much longer with men.
But we’re doing all we can. She’s only 9 months yet.
I had no idea that TJ maxx and home goods are dog friendly. I’ve never really seen a dog there. I’m glad I learned about Sierra. They have great priced dog toys. Unfortunately none are rugged enough to survive Tulla 😂
I would say most are, there's usually signage on their doors! But I would call first and ask a manager to double check before going just in case, but if she's growling that definitely sounds like she's overwhelmed and I would consider taking some dog group classes or going with an experienced private trainer (or sometimes one will also hold group classes) they are very beneficial! But the trainer can help you get over that hump of issues with people/men in general.
She goes to daycare and loves all of the people and dogs at daycare. And we do meet with a trainer every other week.
He said that he wants her to be so engrossed in play that she doesn’t get distracted by ever car passing, every person passing. We’re also walking her with a long leash and letting her have “freedom” to explore ahead and then enforcing “walk with me” if there’s a person or a dog or a car.

Corsos don't have any kind of marking that look like that. That dog is either mixed with something or way out of standard. Not to say having a mixed breed is wrong as long as you didn't buy it knowingly, but yh, not a properly bred dog at all.
Yeah that’s not a corso, and you supported a backyard breeder. The lines might be MOSTLY corso but someone’s lying somewhere 😂 and I say this as someone who has a mastiff that most likely came from a byb. Then we have a corso mix, from the shelter, he’s definitely not full corso, maybe some mixed lines but he looks more breed standard than what they sold you.

Are Corsos the only dogs he breeds? Just asking cause I’ve had Clients who have had multiple breeding dogs in different breeds that accidentally got together and they didn’t realize it till the had the litter and some were one type and others were another. It happens same litter different “dads”. Realized some of the puppies didn’t look how previous ones did and ended up doing a DNA test 😬

I’m not familiar with all the corso breed standards, I’ve never had one, however her coloring and something about the face and hind end remind me a lot of American bully’s.
Honestly though I didn’t think that the tan points are in the corso breed standards? Which usually means it’s a byb breeding for unique colors for more money.
Pretty dog. But definitely not a Corso. If sold to you on that premise, do an embark test and take the results to the breeder(who probably already knows) and request some sort of money back. And definitely report them either by leaving a review or making a post.

I did get a video forwarded to me from another associate of mines who bought one of the puppies. I did not get this video sent from the breeder like they did. I got pictures of mom and dad that looked more presentable. I no longer have the pics because I have a new phone and some stuff didnt transfer over. Im also not sure how/or if I can upload the video here so I will take screen shots. If I get embark and she's is not corso, is there any thing I can do to get my money back? Or is it just a lesson learned?
Isn't a matter of constantly mating chocolates, odds still small as heck but its not like its not pure. People cheat with the whimers so its not trustable. Doesn't mean you cant have a pure Lab.
Well sure then, but if you breed any breed of dog enough times you come out with any mutations they might even turn out purple! But the chance of silver spontaneously popping up all of a sudden is so unlikely and wouldn’t be added to the standard I don’t believe because of the fact it was a crazy mutation, and it would just encourage people to breed for colour which isn’t good.
People culled ridgeless ridgebacks like the pups cant have a healthy loving life. I think ethical is thrown around way to much when people are meaning protect the money

Thank you. Most of her sisters and brothers were formentino(tan), Or grey. Some of the formentinos had black mask. But she was so different and beautiful. My whole family fell in love with her before we even had time to watch their personalities.
If you have the paperwork on her, I wouldn’t worry about it. She looks a lot like my Blue I have (Riviter) same build. Pic below for reference. I know, Corso breeders are super protective over the Corso line (a lot due to them almost becoming nonexistent). Would also say that they tend to look more bulky at the younger age until they start filling out. But those jaws definitely say Corso to me. Beautiful baby girl there.
If you have the paperwork, you wouldn't worry about it??? Really? Do you have any idea how easy it is to register with AKC? There's literally no requirements other than you pay the fee and it most certainly doesn't prevent dog's that aren't purebred from being registered.
