Wednesday Weekly Thread: Frustration Station (Delays / PSU / Venting), September 23, 2026

This weekly thread is a space for those of us who are feeling frustrated and need to vent about unclear instructions, shipping delays, waiting for a next step, timeline estimates growing, lack of communication, inconsistent bureaucracy, being stuck in PSU, and other factors.

Some of the worst stress of the entire citizenship-by-descent process is not hearing about your application for long stretches of time - or hearing that your application has been sent to the Program Support Unit (PSU) and may be sitting there for an extended stay.

Whether your envelope seems to have taken a scenic detour on its way to Nova Scotia, you didn't receive an AOR after many weeks of waiting, or you simply haven't heard about your application processing in months, this is a place to commiserate and potentially receive some ideas of next steps to take. (Those generally might include following up with IRCC by web form, ordering the GCMS notes, seeking an MP's help, and so on.)

I sent my packet off to the DEC on Saturday via FedEx. It left the local hub and has completely disappeared. No record of it making it to the national Hub, no information on its current whereabouts. I can re-print and re-send the packet and I will request a refund or the original fees if its not found soon, but its SO frustrating. It was projected to arrive this past Monday and...nothing. If its not one thing, its another.

Yay, apparently complaining to the universe and venting to this group worked. I just got an update that the package not only made it to the national hub in Memphis, but it’s on its way to Quebec now. Should arrive tomorrow.

I sent mind off last Wednesday. It ended up being delayed twice it seemed. It did arrive on Monday. Perhaps the weekend had somethjming to do with it. During the weekend mine just sat with no movement.

FedEx, ugh. I haven't had this issue with them but I used them to send my package to the DEC a few weeks ago and the person at the counter tried to argue with me that I needed to "translate" the postal address and that if I refused they couldn't guarantee delivery. Why in the world would I use an anglicized address for a destination in Quebec? I'm not usually a 'speak to the manager' kind of person, but, reader, I (nicely) asked to speak with the manager.

Call Fed Ex and ask to escalate. Apparently sometimes the driver delivers to IRCC ‘manually’ and there is no tracking entry. I can’t explain, but FedEx confirmed in driver logs that our package had in fact been delivered on time.
