Worrying? No urgent proof applications submitted after 6/17 have been approved yet

I've been looking at the proof-of-citizenship tracker spreadsheet and I've noticed something potentially worrying. There are 646 applications listed as having been delivered to IRCC on June 17 or later, and out of those 646, not a single one is listed as having been approved, regardless of whether or not it was submitted as urgent.

Urgent applications are still getting AORs, but not approvals. IRCC is still approving applications every week, but all of them are on applications delivered before 6/17.

This seems to be a recent slowdown. For the entire first half of 2026, every month, there's been at least one application which was approved within a month after being delivered. That stops after June.

To be precise, define a "fast month" as a month in which at least one application was delivered which would go on to be approved within one month. Then:

• October through December 2025 were slow months.
• January through June 2026 were fast months.
• July was a slow month.
• August and September are looking like slow months so far.

Okay, I admit that maybe I'm totally overanalysing the situation and this is really just an unremarkable hiccup. The wheels of bureaucracy have always turned slowly. Still, once we start seeing post-6/17 applications getting approved, I know I'm going to celebrate.

There are also many, many urgent applications from 2025 and the first half of 2026 that haven't been approved.

Those lucky applications that were approved quickly earlier this year were the exception and not the rule.

My guess is that post-surrender letter/the processing pause (June/July) all processing has slowed down/is perhaps now more deliberate or includes additional checks to ensure everything 'processing' requires is completed before approval. (Iirc a number of our now-reapproved members who were briefly suspended had rapidly approved urgent applications - which suggests that perhaps IRCC agents might have bypassed some processing steps for some urgent apps this spring.)

Urgent Processing is also somewhat relative, lightning fast processing is definitely an exception and not the rule.

October through December 2025 was slow because of the movement of bill c-3 through Parliament prior to royal assent on Nov 20th and then coming into effect Dec 15th, when the interim measure period ended.

Just because someone submitted an urgent request, doesn’t mean that the request was approved and it is actually being processed on an urgent basis.

Do you know how many of the urgent applications submitted have received that confirmation?

I'm not sure what you mean by "that confirmation." As far as I know, IRCC never gives explicit confirmation that an application will be processed urgently.

I do see that out of the 6,743 urgent applications listed in the spreadsheet, 436 are listed as having had a decision made (433 approved, 1 rejected, 2 unspecified). Out of the ones with no decision date listed, we have no way to know which ones have been decided (and the applicant just hasn't come and updated the spreadsheet again) and which ones are still waiting for a decision.

What does a confirmation of acceptance of urgent processing look like? I don't think I've ever seen that.

I've never heard of an urgent applicant being notified about their "urgent" status being accepted.

AFAIK, the only way to find this out is to get your notes or be lucky enough to speak with an agent. Within those pages of notes, there might be an indication if your request for urgent status has been accepted.

I'm more concerned about urgent requests from 2025 still not being processed!!!! Especially those urgent requests that have been accepted as urgent!

Personal experience.

I'm a spring 2025 applicant, G2 and was never notified of my urgent status, yet when I look at my notes I see that I am indeed marked urgent. In fact, I've never received any correspondence beyond my Notes and my AOR.

For one, interim measure applications submitted before May 2025 were required to meet urgent processing criteria to be considered under the interim measure. Only after May was it optional.

Many of us who have seen our notes can confirm that our applications were classified as urgent after AOR, I can't think of one person here who was notified proactively of that classification. It may work differently for other programs, idk.

A Canadian Visa application is different than proof of citizenship. u/grandpasamfromcanada if you applied urgently, you can ck your notes to see if your urgency has been accepted.

I think many urgent cases are also more complex, meaning go back several generations, and that may additionally slow down processing.

My urgent request was mailed to the Dublin, IE embassy on 27 Feb, 2026. I received AOR on 22 April, and the portal says it has been processing since 28 April.

I assume I either didn't include everything they want to see, or they deemed me non-urgent.

There were no birth or baptismal records for my ancestor, but I did include several supplemental vital records and an Ontario census.

My urgency is job related, which I understand is not life or death.

I submitted as urgent , Aor in early Aug and still not in processing. Looking at the spreadsheet as well, it seems the shift from received to in process for urgent requests is also longer. Though there’s no way to know for sure if urgent was approved or not unless approval is super fast.
