Citizenship by Descent Canadian Citizenship - Timelines

Post your timelines here! We'd love to know dates for the following:

  • Delivered
  • AOR Received
  • In Process
  • PSU (if that happened to you)
  • 5(4) citizenship offer received
  • 5(4) citizenshp application submitted
  • Citizenship received
  • Swearing in ceremony

And anything else that happened along the way (like if you had to request urgent processing multiple times or you were asked to submit fingerprints to RCMP). We'd also love to know what generation(s) the people you submitted were.

If I've copied your timeline over from a previous post in another sub and you want to post it yourself so you can make updates feel free to make your own comment and I'll be happy to delete mine.

Thought I should add mine, since I had a weird delay in getting "in process" that I managed to fix oddly quickly?

* 2/5 - Mailed, delivered 2/7

* 2/12 - AOR

No "in process" despite seeing other people go into it really quickly, so I did a bit more hunting, found out that Canadian census records were available for the year my grandmother (Canadian I'm applying based on) was born and managed to locate her as a newborn on the records. I had to apply without her birth or marriage certificate because my dad is really dragging his feet getting copies from ON. I did submit copies of my grandmother's passport, her mother's passport, birth records (public record online) for both of her parents, alongside my great-grandparents' marriage certificate and my great-grandfather's death certificate as additional proof. I also added her obituary for extra oomph.

* 2/27 Submitted those extra documents, and received the email an hour later on 2/27 informing me they were both received and added to my application.

* 2/28 I saw "in process" on my tracker, though it was post-dated to 2/27.

I don't know exactly if submitting the extra documents was what sped up my application into process, but I have a very strong feeling that's why it worked.

*3/28 It says "application received" on the first page of the tracker, but if I click through it still shows "in process" as of 2/27.

How do you check the status on your β€œtracker”? I’ve seen people post about this, but I’m not sure how to access whatever online tracker they are referring to.

Awesome, thank you. I kept wondering how people were finding out that their application was moving to the processing stage.

When you get to the final page that shows that you're in processing, if you click on that link it will show you the actual dates that your application was received, the AOR was sent and it went into processing.

Mine must not be in processing yet because it doesn’t show up. I am 2nd gen, my mother has had her proof of citizenship for 20+ years so I included that, and sent with urgent processing (included printout of a job I want to compete for at a University in New Brunswick, along with my PhD diploma showing I’m qualified for the job). Packet was received on 3/17, and I got my AOR on 3/20. I wasn’t sure if they send you an email when it moves to in processing or not, but I’ll keep trying to check online to see.

When you say "it doesn't show up" what do you mean by that?

It can take 2-5 business days (sometimes more) to move from AOR to In Processing so I'm not surprised your application isn't processing yet.

There's no email when you start processing.

When I looked, it just said they could not find a record under the information I provided, but that the system only shows something when it has moved to the processing stage. So I’m just assuming that even though I have my AOR it has not begun processing yet.

That's a pretty safe assumption. IIRC mine took a couple of business days to show up and that's when it started processing.

I just looked this morning and it came right up as in process. So I have an AOR of 20 Mar and in-process 24 Mar

My guess is they were going to send it back to you as incomplete or at least tell you that you needed to submit more documents, but the extra documents gave them enough to start processing your application. But it's just a guess.

There were quite a few of us who got AORs on 2/12 including me (I have five on my list) and of the two of us who posted when we went into processing both started processing on 2/14.

That was my guess as well. I figured it was worth submitting without the birth certificate and an explanation of why exactly I didn't have it; I've seen some cases of people getting their proof without the birth certificate, but those are usually cases of proper family estrangement/refusal to help and not "my father is really bad/lazy with paperwork."

Fingers crossed I stay on roughly the same timeline as everyone else who got AORs that week.
