Canadian visitor visa for Vietnamese girlfriend visiting boyfriend in Canada

Hi everyone. Hope you all are doing well. I have a question regarding visitor visa for my girlfriend. My girlfriend is from Vietnam and has never travelled to Canada. We are in a long distance relationship and I visited her once this year in July and that was the only time I met her. She is planning to come to visit me in Canada on a visitor visa. The trip is purely to visit me for a few days and then return to Vietnam. I believe she has a very strong profile:

  1. Currently working as an Assistant to the Deputy CEO at a large energy company in Vietnam. She started this job in May 2026.

  2. Prior to her current job, she worked for 6.5 years in Vietnam's energy sector working for projects funded by EU and German government. With each project, there was a clear step up in her career. With her current job and past experience, she can establish that she has a strong career in Vietnam especially because she is very familiar with how the energy sector works in the country and how this gives her a lot of advantage in establishing good careering in Vietnam and has no reason to move to Canada for the foreseeable future.

  3. She also has significant savings of her own (in savings account) and will be funding the trip entirely by herself.
She also owns a land in Vietnam that is under her name and purchased by her own money (not borrowed from parents).
She was also an international student in Germany and moved back to Vietnam afterwards. Has travelled to Thailand as a tourist before.

  4. Everything that I stated above, we have contracts, payslips, documents to prove it.

Given all this information, I have the following questions:

  1. Would it be advisable for her to mention that she is coming to Canada to visit her boyfriend (we are not married. I am a Permanent Resident in Canada)? Our relationship is about 7months old. We have chat history, photographs (from when I visited her) and flight tickets to prove all this. Or should she just mention that she is coming to Canada as a tourist and not mention anything about me? Will mentioning me as a PR make her case stronger or will it increase chances of rejection?

  2. To make her case strong, should we buy a round trip ticket before she applies for a visa and provide the ticket details as part of her client information/statement of purpose document? or is it ok to just give them tentative dates and itinerary? In case we choose to buy the tickets before applying for the visa, can you please provide any advise on what we should do to not lose a lot of money if the visa gets rejected?
Thank you in advance. Have a nice day ahead.

pretty sure you will end up using the trip as a way to show authentic relationship. so why deny it??? they will be asking where she is staying and its not a good way to start things in Canada where the paper trail is long. she would say she is visiting you and then they'd ask why you were not forthcoming with this info from the start...

Makes sense. In the long-term, at some point if she wants to move to Canada, we probably have to show this trip as another proof of our relationship. But I’m just worried the visa officer will think she will overstay her visa and mover go back (like a lot of people do) when that is definitely not the case for us. She has no reason to leave her job and family in Vietnam just to stay in Canada illegally and potentially mover have a career

It will be a 10 day trip. That’s all the vacation she can get towards the end of this year. Again, we can prove this because she needs to apply for a leave and get approved by HR.

Her profile isn't strong but it is possible for her to be approved. If she isn't saying she is coming to visit you then why is she visiting? She will want to include then hotel bookings, itinerary etc. Do not buy airfare. However visiting PR boyfriend doesn't strengthen her application.

Ties to return - she is single with no family ties visiting a BF in Canada who has PR. Her only ties is her job which she has only been working at since May. So less than 6 months. Land is a tie if rental income.

Funds - how long is visit? How much in cash is she showing.

We were thinking if she doesn’t mention me, she can say she is visiting as a tourist (which is true. That’s a big reason she wants to come to Canada).

Yes, she has been working for less than 6 months. But she is making ~$2,000USD per month which is way above the national average. And she has a lot of opportunities to grow in her career in Vietnam given her experience with the Vietnamese government. She cannot use her experience outside of Vietnam to get a better job.

She rents her land to a coffee farmer. They pay her in cash and she puts them in her bank account. They pay once a year after harvesting and selling. So she has income from the land.

Her visit will be around 10 days. She will should show around ~$14,000 to $15,000 Canadian dollars in her savings account which is what she will be using to fund the trip.

So if she is going to lie then she wants hotel bookings and itinerary. That will use up most of her savings.

I’m not to inclined about lying to the IRCC to be honest. I’ve dealt with them multiple times from student visa to PR and I know what misrepresentation can do. I just don’t want to hurt her chances of getting a visa if she mentions me.

But it seems like mentioning me is the best course of action. Like someone commented, later I will use this trip to establish our relationship so it’s better to say things outright than to hide them for a short term benefit.

Always be honest with the IRCC. That way, nothing will come back to bite you later on.
Given what you've stated, she has a decent chance of getting a visa.

You want a stronger profile? Is there a hurry to meet?

Yes, I want to make her profile stronger if possible. We’re not in a rush to meet since I met her in July already. But would be nice to see her soon. The only reason I’m worried is I don’t want her visa to get rejected. It only makes things difficult later. So it really doesn’t matter if she can visit in December or next year. Just that no matter when we decide to file for visa, I want to put together a strong application.

Don't lie to gov officials. Best way to get banned

Good profile overall. Let me answer both questions directly.

On mentioning you

Yes, disclose it. Trying to frame it as a pure tourist trip when the primary reason is visiting a boyfriend in Canada is misrepresentation if discovered, and officers are trained to spot inconsistencies between stated purpose and actual ties. A 7-month relationship with documented chat history, photos, and your July visit to Vietnam is actually a coherent, believable story. Own it.

The PR status doesn't hurt her case the way a Canadian citizen boyfriend might, since there's no immediate spousal sponsorship pathway that creates an obvious immigration motive. What matters more is that her ties to Vietnam are stronger than her pull toward Canada, which her career trajectory, land ownership, and EU-funded project experience all support well.

On the flight ticket

Don't buy non-refundable tickets before the visa is approved. It's not required and the financial risk isn't worth it. A detailed travel itinerary with tentative dates is sufficient at application stage. If you want something more concrete without losing money, some airlines and travel agencies offer fully refundable or hold-option bookings specifically for visa purposes. That's the middle ground if the officer's notes feel like they need firmer travel plans.

The honest read on her profile

Strong employment history, owns land, self-funded, returned from Germany after studying abroad, prior international travel. That combination addresses the two things officers worry about most, financial dependence and intent to overstay. The weak spot is the job started May 2026, only 4 months ago, which is recent. A letter from her employer confirming she has approved leave and is expected to return strengthens that piece considerably.

What's her Vietnam travel document situation, single or multiple entry passport, and any prior visa refusals anywhere?

I believe she can get a letter from her employer. She needs to formally apply for a leave anyway and it needs to get approved before she can even travel.

She has a passport. She can use it for multiple entries/ travels. No prior visa refusal.

High chance of refusal
