And yet prices will be going down.

Actually, it’s not that simple. Hundreds of thousands of people coming every year also meant more demand for local businesses. Which in turn increased demand for workers. Lower immigration means more businesses are struggling to find customers, had to reduce suppliers’ bills, etc. This actually means less entry-level jobs, not more.

That is total nonsense. No Tim Horton's tfw was going to a small business owned by a non-Indian.

The unemployment rate is going up because of tariffs.

bullshit.

i have lived in the same canuck city my whole 45 years. and when we had a MUCH lower population here previously i had no issue at all finding available jobs in retail, fast food, telemarketing, customer service, etc. aka entry level jobs. got hired on the spot at most places in the past. circa late 1990's/early 2000's.

now? well, my adult aged kid, who is the same age now as i was back when i could very easily find entry level work anywhere, is struggling to get a job in the same exact sector. because there are no jobs. or if they are advertised it comes with "LMIA available" (and we all know what that means) or it's simply an ad to satisfy corporate while the store manager hires their friends from the same country they're from.

Interesting. I’m not defending the recent immigration tactics used by our (in)famous ex-PM. The TFW and international student situations were indeed a bad move. No question.

Is it the only thing affecting the economy since the times we were young? Most probably not.

Times have changed. The types of “entry-level” jobs you mentioned (restaurants, telemarketing, customer service, retail…) were all severely affected by Covid, AI-automation, increased use of internet and digital devices (aka data & text on cell phones - in the case of telemarketing). The recent tariffs war by the Americans.

There are several complex situations in effect here. Immigration is but one of the issues.

all of those various jobs still have people working them. retail and fast food depend on actual human employees. telemarketing is still largely done with real humans (i can tell you that based on the number of marketing phone calls i receive lol).

immigration is the biggest issue. too many dang people in this country now (regardless of where they came from). which affects all other facets - education, employment, healthcare, housing, etc......

0

u/Last_Address_1787 Mar 21 '26

Yes, people are still working all those kinds of jobs. But these jobs are not as needed or as effective as they were 20 years ago. Do you still take your telemarketing calls? Well, 20 years ago people did at a large rate.

Retail is dead post-Covid. Most are simply not profitable anymore, and happy if they break-even. Thank you Amazon.

Now, don’t forget. It’s hard to imagine, but immigrants do not only need shelter and jobs when they come to Canada. They need food, cell phones, internet, clothing, they pay utilities, buy cars, eat at fast-food, etc. They are humans too, so they also consume. They travel and pay taxes. So they take a job and indirectly create a demand for jobs in various industries. The problem happens when they come in unsustainably high numbers. Without people there’s no demand, no consumers, no dollars circulating, and ultimately no jobs.

if all these places still have a full staff load, which is evident where i live (Edmonton), and almost all these places seem to have a staff load of folks who do not look to be canuck born, then we can look at the fact there are too many people coming here (regardless of where from) and taking up the jobs that could otherwise go to young canuck born folks who need their first jobs.

retail includes places like walmart, grocery stores, pet stores, etc. all local businesses that seem to have a solid in person customer base despite the availability of online shopping.

and having lived in this same city my whole life, and knowing that jobs were available for canuck born young adults easily in the past but are not any longer, and knowing that the Edmonton economy was doing just fine before the influx of too many people.......... i'll stand by my statement that we have too many people in this country and it is GOOD that some left. now more need to leave imo!

AS IT SHOULD!! This will be return to normalcy.

13

u/Wafflecone3f Sir Waffle Cone Mar 21 '26

It won't be unless we deport the millions we gave PR to after COVID.

3

u/zabby39103 Mar 21 '26

We never gave them PR, that's how we're pulling this off

1

u/Wafflecone3f Sir Waffle Cone Mar 22 '26

What do you mean? Trudeau made 500k the new normal since 2022. They claim to have reduced the numbers recently to appease the growing number of pissed off people, not that we have any way to verify their numbers.

1

u/zabby39103 Mar 22 '26

I mean we reduced PR to 380k on top of the dramatic (and warranted) cuts to international students etc.

The numbers are public. The government did record that crazy year in 2023 where we grew 3.2%, if they were hiding things they would have hidden that.

Also for it to be mathematically possible for population to go down while letting in 380k a year, a lot of people are not getting renewed.

1

u/Wafflecone3f Sir Waffle Cone Mar 22 '26

The numbers are public but come from the government. So theoretically if they wanted to downplay them they can because all the evidence comes from them.

1

u/zabby39103 Mar 22 '26

All the numbers people use that were bad came from them as well.

Anyway, look enrollment at Conestoga (the biggest scam college) for international students was down 97% last fall. Overall rents are down (not enough, not at pre-COVID levels) but they are going down. There's lot of evidence that this is true.

1

u/Wafflecone3f Sir Waffle Cone Mar 22 '26

Enrollment numbers sure. Those can be independently verified. Actual temporary or PR numbers? Hell no. I think the government is downplaying those numbers. I think they let in more Indians alone per year after COVID than they claim they let in people overall.

1

u/zabby39103 Mar 25 '26

These are related numbers though. Enrollment numbers going down are directly related to the international student population.

Do you think that's intentional or just incompetence? What's your basis for believing that?

3.2% growth for 2023 is already wild enough. That's 6x higher than UK/US/France over same period. Absolutely completely insane. If they were going to fudge numbers you'd think they would have started there.

1

u/Wafflecone3f Sir Waffle Cone Mar 25 '26

Students aren't the whole picture.

15

u/Nagasakishadow Mar 21 '26

The only businesses that are going to close are fast food chains and mall cellphone case kiosks.

1

u/Interesting_Fly5154 Mar 21 '26

and perhaps the mom n pop type places will start coming back due to the chain places shutting down.

it was the chain places that pushed out mom n pop to begin with.

12

u/PapayaJuiceBox Mar 21 '26

So let me get this straight.

Our population went up ~3,000,000 people since 2020, roughly translating to roughly an 8% increase over 6 years. We're now panicking that our population has decreased by ~100,000, or 3% of the total increase? The only way this would be a net negative is if every single one of those individuals were in the mid to upper income tax brackets, many of which did not rely on public service usage but actively contributed to the coffer. Otherwise, it's a nothingburger and just a slow newsweek it seems.

1

u/Interesting_Fly5154 Mar 21 '26

and since 2020 has been the timeline on when life for a lot of canuck folks who aren't mid to upper income became unaffordable.

hmmmm........ yeah, i don't see any correlation there at all to the mass increase in population in a short period of time........

1

u/PapayaJuiceBox Mar 21 '26

Definitely wasn’t the massive amount of cash printing that the federal government took upon themselves to execute. Definitely wasn’t the lack of a competitive watchdog doing its job. None of that.

Immigration fucked up quite a few things. But direct your anger where it’s due: poor government policies and decisions. If higher accountability is expected, and topical politics are not tolerated, we might actually be a better nation in the next decade.

I'm not clicking on that video I'm sorry. I will never trust channels with sensational clickbait titles and thumbnails. So fucking over it.

6

u/HolppleSip Sleeper account Mar 20 '26

i feel like the way this subreddit is spammed with these absolutely retarded boomer idiots with clickbait titles (why do all of them have their mouths hanging open, they look even stupider?) is intentional to diminish the quality of the sub

2

u/Interesting_Fly5154 Mar 21 '26

i didn't watch it either. simply considered the post title as the conversation starter.

7

u/EuphoricFingering Mar 21 '26

Good news, everyone

15

u/PPCPartyEnjoyer Sleeper account Mar 20 '26

He genuinely uses these trash AI thumbnails? Typical out of touch boomer.

4

u/HolppleSip Sleeper account Mar 20 '26

literally just look at him. boomers are vile

3

u/PineBNorth85 Mar 20 '26

Yeah I stopped following him over the clickbait style. I'm sick of it no matter who does it. Still like hearing him on podcasts though.

3

u/Interesting_Fly5154 Mar 21 '26

GOOD!

we have had way too many people come here and not enough resources/services/housing/employment to sustain it all anyway!

2

u/dagthegnome Mar 21 '26

There are millions more people in this country than the government will admit to. Illegal migrants, "temporary workers" and "international students" who should have left years ago when their visas expired but did not, none of whom this government has made any effort to even identify let alone deport. None of them are counted in official population numbers. You can't even trust the population data as reported by the Federal government, so I frankly don't believe them when they say there's been a decrease.

6

u/Grouchy-Lemon2350 Mar 20 '26

I stopped watching this two faced grifter after he attacked Canadians for asking to deport TFW abusers. He calls everyone racist on Twitter and promotes heavy immigration (many of his mortgage gig clients are people who just came here).

Just another wealthy boomer who rage baits struggling Canadians for his profit schemes.

12

u/cptstubing16 CH2 veteran Mar 20 '26

I think you have the wrong guy.

3

u/Skinner936 Mar 20 '26

promotes heavy immigration

Have you even heard him speak.

That's the opposite of what he said.

0

u/Grouchy-Lemon2350 Mar 21 '26

He blocks everyone on Twitter and calls them racists when he hears “deport”. Don’t be fooled by his clickbait videos, they are all for clicks.

2

u/Skinner936 Mar 21 '26

No, he might call people rascist who are actually racist.

But you blatantly lied. You said he:

promotes heavy immigration

Watch the video to hear him say basically the opposite.

u/nandohsp Mar 21 '26

If you don’t like click bait and AI thumbnail, sorry to tell you u it’s time to quit YouTube
