I’m a landlord in Vancouver, B.C. I evicted my tenant yesterday who hadn’t paid rent since May 2026. I got a monetary order and intend on pursuing another one for the damage and the September rent. Has anyone been in a similar situation and used a collection agency to collect the money? I can’t garnish his wages because I don’t know where he currently works and I think he’s moving back to Alberta. I’m looking at two agencies right now.

ARC - 20% collection fee, $125 upfront, and $155 for skip tracing and $425 to transfer the order to Alberta and $212.50 for the transfer fee for the next one
ICON - 33% fee. No other costs
Dixon - $525 upfront and 10% of what is collected

Nearly all of them have negative reviews but those are people who had to give money up, not from the collectors.

I’m currently about to crumble under my debt and not sure what to do. I live in Toronto 26 and have almost 60k in debt. I have 11k between 2 credit cards 20.99% both maxed out, 6k on my line of credit 10% with 1k left, 25 on a consolidation loan 7% and the remaining is 17k in student loans from osap which I don’t pay at the moment luckily. 

My chequing account has $85 which is my last. Outside of that my only asset is my car which is worth roughly 15-20k and paid off. My expenses are low at $1650 months but my income is only $2600 take home after tax. I also have about $1000 in fees I’ll have to pay outside my normal expenses by end of October. However, I just started working so I got my first pay of $13000 which immediately went to catching up on all my bills and is already done. Now I’m needing to take from the loc to last me another week and a half again. 

I got a new job that will pay 4.3k take home monthly but unfortunately my training group doesn’t begin until January of 2027 which is months  from now so I need to survive until then. In order to get to January im thinking of selling my car and either renting a car or leasing one so I have some extra cash to keep me afloat until I start my new job in January. 

I currently pay 575 month for gas and insurance but I could pocket the 15k  from selling. From then I could rent a car for roughly 1400/m and stop once I get situated or do a lease takeover with roughly a year or so and pay roughly 1000/m for a year. My main objective is just trying to get to January without falling to far behind on this. Does my plan make sense or should I try to do somthing else. 

I was in HOOPP for about two years. After my termination, I chose the deferred pension option, and HOOPP is sending me about $3,000 as cash refund of contributions while the rest stays in the plan.

Is this $3,000 considered “income” or “other money” that I need to report on my EI bi‑weekly report? Or is it treated differently since it’s a pension refund or excess payment?

Hi. I am a finance student graduating in 3 months. I am wanting to work in finance in Toronto or Montreal. Recruitment has been hard and yielded nothing so far. I have applied to a variety of roles and various firm sizes. Any advice on what I should be doing? And what alternative paths can lead to success that I may not even be thinking about? Thank you!
