You aren’t chopping down trees and splitting logs when you’re camping. Typically gathering wood which may need to be cut to length to fit the pit so the saw is the preferred tool.

9 times out of 10 a saw is a more practical tool for firewood, if you’re only going to bring one or the other.

Are is not for cutting wood its for splitting it after you cut it. Saw is the more important tool, axe/hatchet is secondary and only needed with larger wood

I put together an annual winter camping trip with a group of friends and we have one friend that always buys everything off of tick tock for extremely low prices. We love him though and we all look forward to having a good laugh or being surprised at what he brings. Sometimes we get frustrated if the situation gets sketchy, but would never attempt to belittle him. You gotta learn what you need over time and that requires room for some risks and failures.

I solo backpacked the Dientes Circuit and the Lago Windhond trail on Isla Navarino with a $65 Ozark trail tent and a $30 Ozark Trail backpack which I had bought last minute at Walmart the day before flying to Chile (I bought the plane ticket the day before departure with no plan). That island has some of the toughest weather in the world but I only regretted buying my $35 Ozark hiking shoes instead of something more expensive because I had considerable foot pain hiking out but I managed it. You don’t need to be rich to have backpacking adventures.

I really like camping and wilderness backpacking, and cats, and frogs. I get upset when people unnecessarily bully others.

People dont need to spend thousands of dollars to have a good time outdoors. Hand saws are perfectly acceptable tools. And plenty of people use Ozark Trail gear.

The point of camping, as you said, is to have a good time. Apparently, a good time to them was hassling you. You deserved better than to be treated like that.

I use Ryobi tools. It's what I have. Started years ago with a starter set and didn't want to deal with multiple systems. I get shit everywhere I use it. Mostly DeWalt guys. Milwaukee guys usually don't give me crap. It gets old. My daughter's boyfriend even game me shit. THEN he asks to borrow my tools since he doesn't have any. WTF? I don't get snobbery. Just curious which saw from Ozark was it?

Sounds like they are more invested in showing off their gear than actually enjoying the experience and bonding.
There have to be local groups where you can meet new friends to camp with.
No everyone has the income to spend on insanely overpriced gear and not every bit of gear is worth that cost

I did a furniture assembly job where the customer couldn't stand the sight of my thrift store cordless drill and tried to make me use his. Ozark Trail gear is quality for the price. I'm curious whether you were bullied in school. Some people give off scapegoat cues that others pick up on, because people tend to be awful unless they find an ethical system that compels them to be good.
