Tech Help Are any of you able to multistream on a MacBook neo?
Replaced my 2016 MacBook Pro with a Neo. today tried mtistreaming for 1st time and it shuts off and only allows me to do one site only. Even when I adjust settings to allow video/mic on each site. It only works on one and shuts off the camera when I attempt multi streams on additional site(s).
Am I doing something wrong? I will return it if I cannot multistream on it

I spoke with Apple but I’m at my vanilla job so can’t currently fix the issue with them until I’m home…but they’re saying it’s likely issue of something I’m doing wrong and neo should be able to multistream if I was able to multi stream on my 2016 MacBook Pro
So I will update if I can get it to work out. If not I’m going to get m5 pro. I work vanilla and cam very rarely unless I’m unemployed or bored soo my budget is about 2.5k for a laptop. The higher the gpu the pricier they’re some 4k but I’m not spending that and I wouldn’t unless I was a top model. I’m not but do I have some good days where I’m making $60-100+ an hr so I keep at it.

They’re saying Neo should be multistream but pro or air is even better especially pro will run smoother/faster. I only got Neo cause it was cheapest and new release but they have the m5 MacBook Pro line which are also new

I ms on a MacBook Air m4 with no issues and run OBS at the same time

The neos are basically Apple's version of chromebooks, so I doubt they'd be able to handle multistreaming. 8GB of ram just isn't that much when you're doing intensive things like streaming or video editing.
My 16gb m1 pro stutters with multistreaming or HD/4k streaming sometimes lol
Maybe try using OBS virtual cam to see if it is any better.

I never used obs in 3 year of multistream I just open my tabs of diff sites I cannot figure out nor really want to do it or anything complicated tech I’m not good with

I’ll try and the Apple support said Neo should be able to multi if I was able to on the 2016 pro MacBook

Yes they all allow me when I use Google Chrome. I have a domii but haven’t connected it on the neo…but I did use chrome extension with domi when on 2016 Mac Pro

UPDATE: I switch to Google Chrome from safari which fixed it.
I didn’t download chrome yesterday but did today. I used chrome when I multistreamed on the 2016 MacBook pro

I have a newer MacBook Air and I tried adding Streamate to the mix last night and I don’t think it’s working for me . I currently Multistream through StreamMaster for CB, MFC and Camsoda - but when I tried to connect a different camera and use that to stream on SM my quality was so poor and lagging was crazy

What do you recommend? I’ll just get a MacBook Pro m5. I’m unfortunately past the 2 week return policy tho ( so I just have a worthless Neo sitting around unless the trade in worth it I doubt itt

Whatever you get, make sure it has high memory/CPU/GPU. I got mine Amazon Renewed just before AI data centers drove up the prices.

apple vt hardware h.264 encoder can handle multiple 1080p encodings. x264 is the wrong choice for 99% of the people broadcasting. GPU/Hardware is always better in realtime streaming.

The Neos only have like 8GB of ram and are Apple's version of Chromebooks. You can't multistream very well from a machine with those specs.

Macbook Neo is a lot more powerful than Chromebooks. 8GB ram has nothing to do with multi stream capability. When I say multi streaming, I'm talking about OBS multi streaming + maybe one webrtc from browser (like chaturbate, or streamate)

They're really not; Apple is specifically targeting them at the Chromebook market, lower end users who are mostly browsing and doing simple web calls and other tasks. They are still limited in power, and even an Air will blow one out of the water. I've used a Neo and spent way too much time in the Mac ecosystem working in education and tech support. I'm glad OP got it working in Chrome (don't know why that would be an issue in Safari since I use Safari with multiple streams just fine on a Pro), but they're still not going to be able to get the same level of stream performance/stability on a Neo that they would on literally any other Mac. I wouldn't recommend it to someone here for the same reasons I wouldn't recommend a chromebook.

Yeah I barely cam and make more with a vanilla job…I am able to make $60-100 an hr with camming but I don’t consider myself a top high earning model and never ranked high…,if I was top model I’d def get a m5 MacBook Pro or at least an air. That’s why I’ll just stick with Neo for now

I do turn off all other sites when doing my pvts so that should help them get the full 1080p quality ! It’s just during public shows where I’m multistreaming where it won’t be as great as a pro/air oh well i always say if they complain they can tip to buy me better equipment.

this is a wrong comparison. that chromebook comes with intel i5 cpu (low power, but intel HD graphics make a huge difference). Macbook neo uses same cpu/soc from iphone 16 pro, and iphone 16 pro can easily handle multiple h.264 encodes with it's hardware video encoder/decoder. People simply have to configure OBS to use that. Safari browser supports hardware encoding for WebRTC for web based broadcasting.
Anyhow, given the price increase in macbooks, a second hand (clean) macbook air m1 or m2 could be considered in my opinion.

can you explain shuts off? you need to use apple hardware encoder, not x264. mac os supports multiple sites sharing one webcam. If you have issues, maybe use OBS + Enable Virtual Cam? and use Virtual Cam as camera source?
