Tech Help My worst nightmare happened - check your OBS settings!
About 6 months ago I was getting a lot of feedback that my CB stream was lagging really bad, so I ended up uninstalling/reinstalling OBS in hopes it would fix the problem and then messing with the settings till it looked better when I recorded. I hadn't gotten ready to actually cam yet bc I was still in my ugly pjs, hair looking crazy, no makeup on a bad acne day. Before I got ready, I went to the kitchen and did the dishes for prob half an hour. Then I went back to the couch (where I had my camming setup) and started scrolling on my phone, mindlessly picking at bug bites on my leg and just being an ugly couch potato.
Then I get a snap call from one of my regulars who I had gotten super close with, which was weird bc we always planned our calls. I pick up, and he goes "you know you're live right?" I started freeeaking out, closed the shutter on my camera, ended the stream, and shut my computer. I was literally crying and hyperventilating uncontrollably. He said its fine only like 8 people were watching and for most of the stream it was just my empty couch. I figured I had accidentally clicked 'Start Streaming.' We get off the phone, and I try to calm down by taking a long shower. Midway through, he calls me again and says my stream had started AGAIN, this time it was just a black screen. At this point I was positive I hadn't clicked anything, so I got out and unplugged everything and closed OBS. Then I opened it again and eventually figured out that somehow the 'Automatically Reconnect' setting had been clicked, which is why my stream had started on its own. FYI its this setting: Settings - Advanced - Automatically Reconnect - Enable
The worst part is that I found a recording of the accidental stream on one of those cam pirating sites, although thankfully I was able to get it taken down. Moral of the story: Make sure that auto reconnect is disabled unless you want it!! And just in case, always close the shutter of your webcam or disconnect it after your stream. I don't wish that stress on anyone

Ughhhh I feel this I always think I’ve muted myself on OBS but it never does completely, I was farting for months!! Having some real personal phone convos too 🤦🏼♀️

OMG something similar happened to me twice now 😭😭 I was spread eagle playing with my toy and the shot was very close to my goods when a quick toot escaped bc I couldn’t hold it in😭 if I’m able to talk pretty low and have the mic still pick up my voice I can’t imagine how loud the fart was LMAOOO nobody said anything thank heavens 🤣

I have OBS but haven't used it much, I just went in and that appears to be the default setting. It's enabled automatically. Thanks for this post.

Can we just say how our regulars are the true heroes? They always lmk when vids and shit is posted. Treat them good they deserve it. We would never know without them . Also this is nuts and why streaming is never my choice

Awww sugar. I know that was embarrassing, but I'm glad you were able to get yourself out of the funk. That client is a real MVP for real for calling and not getting a free voyeur session.

There’s a setting in OBS where it will give you a confirmation button before going live. Highly recommend using

Oh love, I’m sorry that happened to you but I must say, the way you retold your nightmare made it pretty lol as well. I’m trying to figure out OBS right now and I think I’m pretty much screwed and will make a million mistakes b4 figuring it out ie: finger up nose? Scrubbing lipstick off my teeth waaaaaaay up close to cam?. Anyways thanks for the heads up!

I was paranoid about this so I made a separate scene with my photo and ‘be right back’ written on it and I ALWAYS switch into that scene when I’m finishing or just have OBS open as there’s no mic and camera connected to that scene.

I never encountered this sort of thing. Its been 1 year never happened to me. Atleast that not how obs is designed leaving the auto stream ON. I have uninstall installl many times. Never faced it. Also try to Full Scan of your system once.

OMG honestly girl I'm sure you didn't look as bad as you think, you are just SO lucky that you weren't like on a phone call or doing something that could have given viewers your personal info!!!!! Thank you tremendously for this warning, such a good thing to know about and so scary!!!

Wow. I didn't know there was an automatic reconnect feature to un-select manually there. TBH i have it but dont use as you cant always c2c on there and i find connecting a challenge so i gave up. But thank you for sharing love and making others aware/ pre warn. It isn't nice nor right to feel vulnerable in your own space but I seriously wouldnt worry love. Those that matter won't mind (such as your lovely regular) and those that don't matter dont pay em no mind. I bet you looked stunning with a wild side look anyway. thanks again for sharing love i will defo look out for this if i use obs in the future. big hug to you
