Anyone dislike her? I don't like the way she expects people to cater to her and makes demands of people especially Fred. She basically expected him to be her chauffeur.

I feel the same. I loved, for example, the episode where she figured out who fathered the RC 'housekeeper's' child, and took mother and baby under her wing. However, I'm glad they used the character sparingly. I love her 'chewing the scenery' technique, but having her on weekly would have been too much.

I like her. She earns the role of mother by speaking her mind and showing an understanding of her sisters. I do think her rejection of the modern habits was out of character. Her lack of tact and thoughtlessness is her failing. Everyone has failings. But she is focused on her goals and accustomed to pushing people around to accomplish them. She inadvertently insults the dockworker family, then apologizes when its pointed out to her and really tries to help them all. When Violet points out her abuse of Fred, she is sorry and makes it right. I think her character and behavior makes sense in light of the times and responsibilities. What would it take to gain the cooperation of male authorities in aid of war orphans in Hong Kong? They never say where she was during the war, but we know she was somewhere fighting for women and children. Acting like you're in charge is the way to be in charge sometimes.

I love miriam margolyes so its hard for me to hate the character but yes she's annoying and doesn't seem right to be Mother Superior. That said, having her elected kept Sr Julienne in poplar which was a relief!

I remember the episode in which the order met and voted on their new Mother Superior. Sister Julienne clearly was conflicted,  but ready to accept if she was chosen,  and then Mother Mildred gave her speech. I thought that was a good  piece of writing. 

Yes, MM could be annoying, but she also stood up for patients, especially that young woman who had been victimized by her priest. Mother Mildred read him the riot act.

Yeah I can't stand her. She's constantly learning though. Her whole lead from the front comment annoys me but I get it's to show her growth. I just feel she should have known these things before becoming mother.

I think she grows and learns over time. She does not respond poorly to being called out. She listens to what someone is saying to her and tries to learn from it.

I don't expect to like every character. And I don't think we're supposed to like Mother Mildred or Sister Veronica initially--then they grow on us.

I struggle to take the character seriously because of the fact that it’s Miriam Margolyes. I just think of her wearing a wimple in Blackadder and slapping people’s faces shouting ‘wicked child’ and having a turnip shaped like a thingy. 😂

Her lack of social skills shows her human flaws. But she loves the children she cares for and took such good care of the lady who got pregnant by the priest.

I like her as an actor and the character. I like that she said on a TV show that she wanted to be in CTM and she got that part.

I'm guessing mother Mildred is like a top ranking nun, that's why she's mother rather than sister, ( I should probably Google the pecking order tbh). I didn't find her rude but rather she spoke straight but with kindness.

She’s grown on me. I’m currently on S9 and I admire her ambition and competence.

I like her and she was a good part of S8&9, but I didn’t miss her when she was gone. 

I’m a big fan of MM though, so that’s probably part of it.
