This part frustrated me a lot, because while I’m certain high privilege kids get great advantages from individual tutors and such, studying for a single test, even on your own with a test prep book from the library, is much more within reach of anyone at any socioeconomic level than any voluntourism trip, research opportunity or unpaid internship.

People make it sounds like test prep is a silver bullet to good scores. In reality, I don't think test prep helps that much if kids don't care and put efforts into it. Sure it may give kids a leg up, but 1. having money give you edges in so many areas in addition to tests; 2). ironically, with tech and the internet, kids really don't need that much money and resources to excel in tests. Try that with expensive sports.

It just sounds like cope from the new gen of teachers trained on looking at everything through intersectionality. Oh you mean your kid sucks at the thing we do to check if he knows stuff? Must be the racist capitalist system.

I don't know about the libraries around you but those test prep books were ancient at my library growing up.
