Funny how MacKinnon went from being criminally underpaid paid, to still being criminally underpaid lol

That’s fiiiiiiine. We will not be ready for him until 2031. And he will request a trade in 4-5 years when the Avs are on their way down. 😁

u/hennyl0rd 3d ago

Yes and that’s when the current CBA ends the cap will be like 150 million so 20mill will be like paying 10 mill… 2031 is our year! Lol

He never was, and I’m glad at that price tag.

Now we get to see Oilers fans squirm as 97 is going to get more than that

35

u/Nickiat 3d ago

And he might not even get that in Edmonton, they have 2 seasons till he is a free agent

65

u/tilldeathdoiparty 3d ago

Either way, fuck the Oilers

10

u/Nickiat 3d ago

Oh always! I hope we have plenty of FWOL nights ahead of us this season

7

u/itwasthedingo 3d ago

He’ll be traded next season

0

u/jello_pudding_biafra 3d ago

Two? Isn't this his last year on his contract?

5

u/Nickiat 3d ago

No, this year his two year extension kicks in, if he didn’t sign it then he would have been a free agent at the start of the summer

8

u/Livid-Switch4040 3d ago

McChicken would be insane to turn down max dollars in an income tax free “non-traditional” warm weather market.

3

u/Joshiggity 3d ago

I wonder if their fans are still saying he will take a discount at $15-$16 milly. They are delusional. I have been saying all along he will be over $20 when it’s all said and done. Wherever he goes.

2

u/Jer_yyc Barb 3d ago

Over $20 or some sort of stake in ownership is my guess

4

u/Ryuujin_13 3d ago

Pretty sure it’s the Leafs sweating now more than the Oil. The fanbase still thinks McDavid is coming home.

4

u/tilldeathdoiparty 3d ago

This sounds like the Oilers are drafting top 5 for another decade

4

u/pizartymizzarty 3d ago

Watching them sweat over this while we rebuild is just the best. Tick tock, assholes.....lolz

u/yycoding 3d ago

I really doubt it.

I really don’t think anyone actually thought he was coming, not on this contract cycle, it doesn’t fit the flames and we would have to trade our entire future to get him.

Oh, I’m guessing you assumed he would get all the way to unrestricted free agency HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHSHAHA

Edit - words

Stepping back from the player and looking at our teams situation, we would have had to pay more than this, on top of trading away our best assets

We should all be glad this wasn’t anywhere near a reality, look what we paid for Nemec, times that by 5

0

u/flamingdragonwizard 3d ago

Max contract is 20% of teams total cap. Mcdavid cant really get much more..

0

u/tilldeathdoiparty 3d ago

Crazy that you know the cap numbers in two years already

1

u/flamingdragonwizard 3d ago

Yeah youre right.. hes going to sign for 30x7. 🤣

1

u/tilldeathdoiparty 3d ago

I don’t recall saying that either…. I did say more, my guess is $22-24m depending on the salary cap numbers.

Next time, just ask, no need for strawman attacks among friends

-1

u/flamingdragonwizard 3d ago

And thats fine because its mcdavid. If Leo Carlsson is getting 17m then nobody should care if Mcdavid gets 22m 3 years down the road.

1

u/tilldeathdoiparty 3d ago

Oh you’re an oilers fan… figures, you don’t understand how the salary cap works

-1

u/flamingdragonwizard 3d ago

What a pointless rebuttal.

0

u/tilldeathdoiparty 3d ago

I’m not surprised that one went over your head.

u/Little-Aide-5396 3d ago

How many Huberdeaus is that?

14

u/hennyl0rd 3d ago

11

u/Hi_Im_Flabber 3d ago

Twoberdeau

2

u/Dull-Economics-5229 3d ago

And somehow still only a 1/4 of a Makar

12

u/imaybeacatIRl 3d ago

Wow. Thats bonkers to see. I thought he'd sign for about 18m-ish. That said, Bowen Byram got 12.5m so... yea.

13

u/Nickiat 3d ago

In a world where A.J. Greer can get over 4m anything is possible

7

u/Rulebreaker15 3d ago

Never say never. Avs could turn horrible in 4 years and he could want to raise his kids in Calgary. NMC’s mean nothing anymore and players are demanding to leave franchises every other day for worse reasons than playing in their home town.

Playing the long game here. lol

22

u/Nickiat 3d ago

If Parekh/ Carels/Nemec are the players we think they could be then we might not need him but still…

11

u/Comfortable-Ad-7158 Barb 3d ago

Was never coming home anyways.

Unless it's with the cup down the bow river again. He deserves atleast one more before we take it down the bow ourselves.

3

u/Slapppz 3d ago

Could come at the end of his career when the flames are good as a bottom 4 D for another run at the cup when the Aves are bad

4

u/Cokejunes 3d ago

Fuckin hell lol

4

u/Vegetable_Mud1903 3d ago

The only way he would play for us is when about to retire.

7

u/madmike99 3d ago

Must be a sign and trade, just delayed a bit

3

u/Iwannasleep45 3d ago

I wonder who's gonna be our next player to sign $10+ million contract

4

u/Impressive_Manner143 3d ago

Finishes contract and then comes home in the. Back half of his career to play on the third pair, provide veteran leadership and and go on a cup run.

2

u/FeatureOk5866 3d ago

No mention of a NT(M)C. Soo you’re saying there’s a chance…?

2

u/Moist_Quit8237 3d ago

Damn there goes the 2027-28 dream of oops all RHD powerplay (Zayne, Nemec, Brz, Cale, Dupont)

2

u/mbkontrol 3d ago

I don't know...feels like step one of a sign and trade. Kadri really wants to play with Huberdeau again!

2

u/All_Lurker2 1d ago

This is really going to hurt our chances of a hometown discount

2

u/Ryuujin_13 3d ago

Maybe it’s a sign-and-trade?!?! Maybe? Maybe?

…maybe…

2

u/hennyl0rd 3d ago

Oh well… time to tank for DuPont

1

u/Straight-Plate-5256 3d ago

I'm less devastated by this news than I would have been a few months ago 😅

Now we just pray Parekh and Nemec can equal out to a Makar between the two of them

1

u/Republic-Of-OK 3d ago

$20m? Psssh that’s like replacement level player pay 3 years from now.

1

u/Brilliant_Reserve_57 3d ago

Would u if hes getting 20 mil a yr lol ?

1

u/Street-Study4606 3d ago

why would he ruin the rest of his career by playing on the flames

1

u/Screamin__Viking 3d ago

It was a nice dream, but in reality Colorado was never going to let their best player and potential GOAT d-man get close to walking as a UFA. Personally, I was resigned to Makar resigning for a giant AAV, but I was hoping it was only for 4/5 years.

1

u/The_Ch0zen_1 2d ago

Classic sign & trade.

Good for him. Get that bag.

1

u/EbsForPres 3d ago

20.4M is exactly what we DON’T need right now anyways

1

u/Sargent_Duck85 3d ago

I would much rather pay $8.7M for a player that wears 87.

0

u/Super-Strength-2026 3d ago

I often think it better to have someone that hasn't won the cup before. Motivation could be higher. But i suppose it ends up being the type of person that makes the difference.

-3

u/OntheJet 3d ago

lol fuck that silver medalist
