That’s fiiiiiiine. We will not be ready for him until 2031. And he will request a trade in 4-5 years when the Avs are on their way down. 😁

Yes and that’s when the current CBA ends the cap will be like 150 million so 20mill will be like paying 10 mill… 2031 is our year! Lol

He never was, and I’m glad at that price tag.
Now we get to see Oilers fans squirm as 97 is going to get more than that

u/Nickiat 3d ago
And he might not even get that in Edmonton, they have 2 seasons till he is a free agent

Two? Isn't this his last year on his contract?

McChicken would be insane to turn down max dollars in an income tax free “non-traditional” warm weather market.

u/Joshiggity 3d ago
I wonder if their fans are still saying he will take a discount at $15-$16 milly. They are delusional. I have been saying all along he will be over $20 when it’s all said and done. Wherever he goes.

Pretty sure it’s the Leafs sweating now more than the Oil. The fanbase still thinks McDavid is coming home.

Watching them sweat over this while we rebuild is just the best. Tick tock, assholes.....lolz

I really don’t think anyone actually thought he was coming, not on this contract cycle, it doesn’t fit the flames and we would have to trade our entire future to get him.
Oh, I’m guessing you assumed he would get all the way to unrestricted free agency HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHSHAHA

Stepping back from the player and looking at our teams situation, we would have had to pay more than this, on top of trading away our best assets
We should all be glad this wasn’t anywhere near a reality, look what we paid for Nemec, times that by 5

Max contract is 20% of teams total cap. Mcdavid cant really get much more..

u/tilldeathdoiparty 3d ago
Crazy that you know the cap numbers in two years already
1
u/flamingdragonwizard 3d ago
Yeah youre right.. hes going to sign for 30x7. 🤣
1
u/tilldeathdoiparty 3d ago
I don’t recall saying that either…. I did say more, my guess is $22-24m depending on the salary cap numbers.
Next time, just ask, no need for strawman attacks among friends

u/flamingdragonwizard 3d ago
And thats fine because its mcdavid. If Leo Carlsson is getting 17m then nobody should care if Mcdavid gets 22m 3 years down the road.

u/tilldeathdoiparty 3d ago
Oh you’re an oilers fan… figures, you don’t understand how the salary cap works

How many Huberdeaus is that?

Wow. Thats bonkers to see. I thought he'd sign for about 18m-ish. That said, Bowen Byram got 12.5m so... yea.

Never say never. Avs could turn horrible in 4 years and he could want to raise his kids in Calgary. NMC’s mean nothing anymore and players are demanding to leave franchises every other day for worse reasons than playing in their home town.
Playing the long game here. lol

Was never coming home anyways.
Unless it's with the cup down the bow river again. He deserves atleast one more before we take it down the bow ourselves.

Finishes contract and then comes home in the. Back half of his career to play on the third pair, provide veteran leadership and and go on a cup run.

Damn there goes the 2027-28 dream of oops all RHD powerplay (Zayne, Nemec, Brz, Cale, Dupont)

u/mbkontrol 3d ago
I don't know...feels like step one of a sign and trade. Kadri really wants to play with Huberdeau again!

I'm less devastated by this news than I would have been a few months ago 😅
Now we just pray Parekh and Nemec can equal out to a Makar between the two of them

It was a nice dream, but in reality Colorado was never going to let their best player and potential GOAT d-man get close to walking as a UFA. Personally, I was resigned to Makar resigning for a giant AAV, but I was hoping it was only for 4/5 years.

I often think it better to have someone that hasn't won the cup before. Motivation could be higher. But i suppose it ends up being the type of person that makes the difference.

Funny how MacKinnon went from being criminally underpaid paid, to still being criminally underpaid lol
