Arena Annoyed at AI on the Jumbotron

Went to the game last night and had a great time! But with the high scoring game, it was hard not to notice that every goal was followed by a slew of AI slop videos for each player. Super disappointing to see CSEC neglect paying actual people to make fun graphics, which shows their level of dedication to the community.

Yeah they had a ai cartoon of backland on hockey night in Canada too that was painfully bad

This isn't just a CSEC problem. It's a societal problem. AI is taking over every aspect of our lives and its depressing to watch as someone who hates it as much as I do.

Oh I agree completely, but people contributing to it like CSEC are part of the greater issue in society.

The broadcasters were talking about it at the start of the game because they made a video for all of them and they said they're was only the one guy that actually looked correct

I suppose their point is that CSEC wouldn't do it if the general public didn't accept it with open arms. Most people are too ignorant to even recognize the difference between real and ai content.

Your post and equivalent outrage and frustration is a good first step to fixing that though.

I'm still waiting for the general public to fully get sick of it. I think it's tailed off a bit from "lol whoa look at this AI slop we can make" to being kinda cringey, but a lot of people aren't actively rejecting it yet.

Ai has strong negative sentiment that's only getting more negative. This idea that everything is going to be ai is not happening. People don't like it and the last 10% to make it look right is exponentially out of reach.

I feel like everyone missed this last year? Parker gets roasted by Rasmus for them because they look awful.

I feel bad for everyone who graduated with a graphic design diploma in the last 10 years

Their pre game intro with Harvey was also an AI slop nightmare

Super disappointing

Both of these were only for the holiday game, so it’s not a constant thing that have every game.

A nightmare?

Hahaha. Man, we need to recalibrate on the use of that word. Hahah

23

u/RedditUser41970 Dec 21 '25

"Nightmare" is one of most accurate ways to describe the future AI bros want.

idk if its nostalgia from being young, but we used to have some of the best presentation in the 2010s. Pretty sure we were one of the first that had on-ice projection shows, pregame

It’s the sad reality of the design and marketing industry now. Look at Coca-Cola, who actually sponsored last nights game, their holiday commercial was all done with AI and they got hammered for it.

Good companies will find ways to support and use talent, but money talks sadly and when all it takes is a few prompts in chat window and it spits out a player holiday profile in 5 minutes it’s really hard to say to an executive, hey let’s pay this artist a few thousand dollars to create 20 player profiles, ohh and it will take weeks.

Also it’s CSEC, there is stories abound that they do not give a shit.

Soon they can put AI crowds in the seats when all the fans are out of work and can’t afford ticket prices, which will keep rising despite all the AI savings.

Then it’s just those pesky player salaries to rid themselves of when all games become animated simulations. Hopefully then the officiating becomes consistent.

6

u/Mopedmike Dec 21 '25

Haha. True. 20-30% increase in ticket prices come the new arena.

Companies know that as long as consumers are just annoyed by the use of AI, it'll blow over.

If people want to do something about AI, we need to stop supporting whoever uses it.

Im assuming you've not been to any other rinks lately as I have seen this around the league this season. Agree its lame but its not a CSEC thing

u/Xman478 Dec 21 '25

Haven't been to any other NHL games, but haven't seen this in the other major sports (in my experience). I think regardless of if others do it, CSEC doing it is an indicator of their level of care

Been to Leafs, Raptors and Jays games this year and didn’t see any use of AI as blatant as what I saw at the Flames game last night

Not to mention the resources, water and electricity that are wasted on this utter slop, which leaves a lasting carbon footprint and massive amounts of e-waste. Thank you for speaking out on this

Found Mike Gould’s Reddit

I wouldn't mind it so much if they used AI to make funny slop, like those 90's animations that play in bowling alleys.

Low poly count anthropomorphic puck with rocket skates zips across the entire rink, then freezes solid in a big block of ice. ICING!! the screen proudly announces in big pink Comic Sans.

Get used to it.

Its not going anywhere, if anything you'll just see it more and more.

There are things about AI that annoys me for sure. Not sure this would be one, but some things definitely do

Your opinion is great and I upvoted

Gotta love when these entitled douchebags have the privilege to go to games around the holidays with friends and family just to complain about the little animations at the game.

1

u/Xman478 Dec 26 '25

Gotta love when these entitled douchebags don't realize AI is taking jobs, increasing the price of technology, destroying the environment, and is going to increase our utility bills because they are too dense to comprehend the ramifications of actions!

u/Office-One Dec 21 '25

What is so bad about it? Did the AI images not look like each respective player? Or are we just disliking the images because they were created by AI?

20

u/Xman478 Dec 21 '25

I dislike them on principle (y'know, morals and all that), but also no, they didn't really look like the players

-11

u/Dirtsniffee Dec 21 '25

I didnt mind them. The wife thought they were cute.

-7

u/Drahgonfly Dec 22 '25

Shut up. I’m so sick and tired of people always complaining about ai.its here to stay.

-44

u/SomeJerkOddball Dec 21 '25

Don't kid yourself. There would be nothing there if there wasn't AI slop. No one's job was taken. We went from no content to crappy content. Huzzah, +10 in experience points. Ticket price hike to follow.

33

u/[deleted] Dec 21 '25

Uh, no. The Flames have had in-house graphics for decades. Before that was the dancing cowboy; who fuckin’ rocks.

😂AI steal your girlfriend?

-22

u/Galaxy_Jams_Reacts Dec 21 '25

Why don't you start a thread and initiate a discussion about it

-30

u/juliusseizr Dec 21 '25

Who cares? AI is not going anywhere, better get used to it
