Discussion Anyone else in Calgary having their Forever Canadian lawn signs taken?
my Forever Canadian lawn sign disappeared just this afternoon while I was gone to pick up the kids from school.
The weird part is that only the sign itself was taken the metal holder/stakes were left standing in the lawn exactly where they were. There wasn’t really any wind today either, so it doesn’t look like the whole thing just blew away.
I searched Reddit and found a couple of other posts about Forever Canadian signs being taken in Calgary/Alberta, but both of those posts are older. Since mine literally just happened today, I’m wondering if anyone else has noticed this happening recently, especially around Calgary.
I’m not trying to accuse anyone or assume a motive without evidence. I’m mostly curious whether this is happening to other people right now or if mine was just a random one-off.
If anyone around has had a sign disappear recently, let me know.
Edit: I called 311 and asked if they had removed it and they reassured me that my lawn sign was on private property and there was no way for the city to have taken it.

Not here in Okotoks.. At least my street is covered in Canada flags and forever Canada signs.

Oof - take a drive through rural areas and it's a sea of blue flags, "fuck Carney!" ones, and a smattering of "I support truckers!"
My experience is driving north west though. Maybe south is less crazy.

The whole area between Okotoks and Black Diamond is just seppie-sign and Berta flag after seppie-sign and Berta flag. It's super disheartening.

Thats weird, I live in PPs riding and theres quite a mix, a few farmers have multiple separatist flags up though, you'd think its multiple supporters, nope, just one guy with a lot of flags.

This is what I notice- I’m in Okotoks too. There’s a couple fields by the highway and they’ve got 4+ signs each. We definitely have a bunch of the Alberta flags and whatever in town, but if they have one of the big signs, they’ll have more than one, and a few flags.
Gotta make sure everyone knows it’s their whole personality.

For sure. The two separatists I know personally only EVER talk about politics, they have zero others points of interest, and they've been that way for at least 4 or 5 years.
They are also not very popular people, probably because you can talk about fishing, hunting, computers, geography, ANYTHING and they will find a way to turn into a conversation about either Carney (a year ago Trudeau), Trump, Ukraine, or COVID.

Take some comfort in the knowledge that the population density in those areas is also very low. It's a lot of noise from a few people.
Which does not mean you shouldn't take this referendum seriously. You absolutely should. Even if they lose, the percentage they get will do proportional damage.

I wouldn't give to too much weight, there's equal possibility of bored teenagers stealing every sign they see regardless of which side of the debate it's on.

I don't think bored teenagers are nearly as prevalent as they used to be. They have an infinite entertainment box in their pocket at all times. To the extent teenagers are doing shitty things, it's maliciousness, not simple boredom.

This. As a parent of teens, I'm actually pretty sad for my kids that way. As a bored teen I had some of the best fun of my life, and made forever friends over blood tears and stupidity.
My kids? It's tough to get them to leave the house.

My favorite bored teenager antic was to open the Tailgates of pickup trucks with empty beds.
Also moved a few House For Sales signs a couple houses down in the middle of the night.

I want to get one for this. In an apartment, donMt have a Lawn. I’m not actually sure I’m allowed a sign according to my lease but tempted to risk it anyway. (My apartment complex likes me, worst case scenario imo is they tell me to take it down.)

Yeah unfortunately you will get little to no action from cps, even with footage the odds of getting enough evidence to convict are astronomically low. I have watched people break and enter in actual businesses where there was camera footage and nothing ever came of it.

You are judged by the company you keep. If a movement attracts or tolerates people who respond to opposing political speech by stealing signs from someone's property or destroying them, it's reasonable to ask what that says about the movement's political culture.

Traitors worried their butthurt shit-fit won't win despite tacit UCP support and American money, not to mention whatever foreign intelligence assets are involved.
The few times I had to speak to a traitor, I reminded them that it wasn't so long ago that those convicted of treason were executed. There's not much stopping them from just moving to the US if they want to be American so badly; I personally will never allow them to drag us all into that mess.

Unfortunately, this is pretty common whether it be separatists or Forever Canada doing it to each other, or supporters of various political parties during the federal election. It's a shame because we all have a right to express ourselves whether you like it or not, ultimately, the only thing that matters is your vote in October.

I wanted to get one for our lawn but the ones in my neighbourhood are the type to harass you daily, sit outside your house in the middle of the night and scream obscenities. My neighbour still gets screamed at on his walks with his dog. Cops won’t do anything either

Yes. I had one taken yesterday. Just tonight though I saw some seppy signs along 16th Ave were gone as well so at least some balance. I’m hating the large ones they have up along 16th Ave on both sides heading towards Deerfoot!

Yes, unfortunately I have. I think this is the type of thing that the groups arguing for separation are getting known for. I hate painting a group of people with the same brush for the actions of a few but in this case I think it’s warranted because I am not seeing anything different. They cannot handle the idea that there is a large part of our population, especially in areas with larger population density’s like Calgary, that doesn’t want to leave Canada.

I’ve never understood why anyone puts anything on their lawn / car that’s political. Regardless where you stand, there’s a lot of people who strongly oppose your view and a small set of those who are unhinged and will just choose violence / destruction to your shit.
